A little fun fact that you either didn't know or didn't mention is that Tenkaichi Tag Team was the first Dragon Ball Z game to use Funimation's voice cast from Dragon Ball Z Kai instead of the cast from the original Dragon Ball Z, so characters like Gohan and Frieza have new voice actors.
The PSP was the most impressive handheld comsole ever made back then. It was amazing having those quality of games in a handheld. It really was like having a portable PS2.
I got my PSP very late in its life cycle, and I immediately modded it. Along with dissidia Final Fantasy, which is one of my favorite games of all time. I played Shin Boudakai another road. I learned very quickly that I needed an ISO version of the game because of all the loading screens. The CSO file which was the most common to save space on a memory card took forever to load.
How have you never heard of Spike-Chunsoft? They made Dragon Quest, Shiren the Wanderer, all the Mystery Dungeon games, and a ton of great games. They do focus a lot on anime IPs too
18:50 You might have actually heard of them. Soon after this game, they merged with another company and the new company just slammed the two companies' names together. They're now known as Spike Chunsoft. Danganronpa, Zero Escape, the Mystery Dungeon games, AI: The Somnium Files, Rain Code, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, those guys.
Hey man, first time viewer. This was a fun nostalgic video. I just want to add that if you would add chapters to your videos, it would be easier to see which games you were talking about. I was confused for a second during your Shin Budokai sections.
When you showed the meta cooler mission in shin budokai another road, that was the mission that whether I first played it as a kid or played it when I was older, could NEVER beat hence why I was so HAPPPY when I later found out that I could just download an 100% complete save file off game faqs so I could play as all the new characters, like ss4 goku, dabura, super buu, bardock, etc
"A company i've never heard of called spike made this' Spike has always made the budokai tenkaichi games, so they shouldn't be a new name. they also made the pokemon mystery dungeon games and would later be merged with chunsoft to make , well, spike chunsoft, who would later be known for making the danganronpa games.
@@polk1203 to be fair, I haven’t really played the tenkaichi games since back before I really knew anything about who developed what, and since I didn’t go back and research tenkaichi for this one, I didn’t even realize lol oops.
Should also message that technically the budokai tenkaichi series is an entirely different series called the Sparking series in japan, so influences between series aren’t always intentional since it’s two different teams
I loved Shin Budokai 2. Basically, the Buu Saga in Future Trunks timeline. But with Future Gohan getting resurrected and obtaining his Unleashed Potential. I enjoyed that e ding to Trunks timeline rather than Super's Goku Black arc.
Budokai 3 for ps2, Shin Budokai series for psp (and FighteZ for ps4) are by far the best DBZ fighting games ever made. Their depth and polish is top tier, easily on par with the best VS games. Each of them were played in professional competitions in their time.
Funny thing, I joined the Air Force in 2001 and one of my goals was to own all the Dragonball Z games on Playstation that were Japanese only releases. Succeeded within my first year, plus a boot disk for playing imports. Within a year it seems every title had a US port domestically released 😢.
It always cracks me up how the shin budokai games have the copyright logo next to each characters name in the character select screen wnd by the health bar.
How do you feel about Dookieshed finally being back in action lately? He had a live stream 3 hours ago along with a livestream a few months ago. I only ask because I know that you two are/were close friends.
Y'know, going in, I thought it was just gonna be Shin Budokai 1 and 2 plus Tag Team, because I completely forgot they made a Dragon Ball Evolution game at all.
It's likely because Crunchyroll (then-named Funimation) trademarked most of the Dragon Ball character names. I suspect it was an attempt to crack down on bootleg merchandise and fan-subtitled videotapes circulating at the time of the anime's American cablecast. That's a common sticking point with most Journey to the West adaptions in the Americas, since the monkey has to constantly be renamed (1997 tv cartoon "Monkey Magic" renamed their Son Goku "Kongo", for example) due to that trademark.
Another Road has a special place in my heart just for bringing Future Gohan back to life, even if it’s not canon. Also Bardock featuring AT ALL in the story mode is a plus for me.
18:12 - Hey, bad as this movie is, at least it's not Episode of Bardock.......or the three first Broly movies.......or Return of Cooler.......or Super Dragon Ball Heroes......or the Goku Black Saga......or just the Buu Saga in general.....or Dragon Ball FighterZ's story mode. Seriously I would say I miss the days when this live action movie was indeed the worst thing to ever have the Dragon Ball name on it but as I look back at the franchise overall the existential horror sets in as I realize *this was NEVER the worst thing to have the Dragon Ball name attached to it, it will NEVER be the worst thing to have the Dragon Ball name on it. The actual show this is supposedly bastardizing was always more cursed.*

What's your favorite Dragon Ball game?
That's gonna be a big ol' *NO.*

The game has soo much potential that even the mods for them are even better
The PSP was the most impressive handheld comsole ever made back then. It was amazing having those quality of games in a handheld. It really was like having a portable PS2.
Could one argue that it was too "good" for its own "good?"
It sold less than a weaker system.
Dude, when I saw how Kuma looked in Tekken Dark Ressurection, it blew my mind. The graphics were so good.
@@BrawlYoshidark ressurection was the best
Timestamps for your convenience:
3:20 Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai
13:27 Dragon Ball Evolution
18:32 Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team
i think we're all here for the goat Tenkaichi TagTeam.
Such a shame they never tried a 2v2 style game or mode afterwards, it was such a good idea!!
I'm beyond pissed Sparking Zero didn't bring 2v2 back.
7:10 That's just loyal to the Budokai experience.

I'll say this much as someone who has watched the movie, but has not played the game. By the footage alone, you got the better experience
How have you never heard of Spike-Chunsoft? They made Dragon Quest, Shiren the Wanderer, all the Mystery Dungeon games, and a ton of great games. They do focus a lot on anime IPs too
They also made the Danganronpa games, which I admit isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but definitely worth talking about.
What’s anime
They didnt make dragon quest, just a few Mystery Dungeon games using the IP
I was just wishing this video existed. Literally yesterday. Thank you so much ❤

Goku REGISTERED TRADEMARK
What a coincidence I was just binging all you’re dragon ball videos this week lmao

New Gilly ep? I'm here!!!
Did you notice the pic you showed with goku from the movie game went to a highschool called highschool in the background wtf
The faces on the character models in evolution will haunt my dreams. 15 year old me spent waaaaaay too much time on shin budokai, I loved that so much
It really bothers me this dude looks nothing like the guy in his channel thumbnail 👀
My apologies for not being a super saiyan
i also never grew up with the PSP or any sony console so im also discovering thier library for the first time.

now do the 3ds dbz games

Cool never had th chance to play any of these back in the day
The best handheld DB games back then were the Origins games on the DS.
I'm a nintendo fan veteran and I can say the psp was way better
Thanks Gilly!!

Haven’t talked to him in a while and didn’t know he was back, but I’m glad to hear it.
@gillythekid dookieshed is streaming in 30 minutes if you wanna stop by
When you watch DBZ Evolution, pretend it's a high school AU parody and it becomes hilarious.
Y'know, going in, I thought it was just gonna be Shin Budokai 1 and 2 plus Tag Team, because I completely forgot they made a Dragon Ball Evolution game at all.
Brother say tenka-ichi lmao
The PSP had Dragon Ball games besides Evolution?
Can we just have a moment of silence for the beloved creator of Dragon Ball Akira Toriyama…..
Is it normal for the DBZ series to put a copyright symbol after almost every characters name?
My favourite has to be Piccolo tm

Been awhile since a video was made exclusively for my current obsession
Dragon Ball or PSPs?
@@AXL5221 both?
