  • Last December, when I picked up the 1946 Cadillac from the same salvage yard, I told the owner I would buy this Buick Sedanette also as soon as I saved up the money. So we went to pick it up on the car trailer today in Bloomington, IL., not too far of a drive from Rockford, IL.

That was my first car . A black 1948 straight eight Buick 4 door. I swapped a super fast go kart (120km/hr) for it. Bloody brilliant car. It was like driving an oil tanker on the road. Huge vehicle. Back seat was real comfortable.😋😋😁

Straight-8 engines are incredibly smooth. The lack of vibration in that 70 year old car would blow your mind. V-8s have other advantages that led to them becoming the standard, but when it comes to smooth, the straight-8 is king. There's a video of a Packard from the 40s, running with a quarter standing on edge on the cylinder head.

The slang term for this body style is/was "Torpedo Back". The term "Fastback" came into use in the 1960's. When I was a kid and the new Fastback cars were making their way onto the roads, my parents weren't impressed. To them it was just bringing back a former design. That's a beautiful car. Thanks for making the vid.

My Dad was in WWII and sent home each of his pay checks to his mother and told her to,use it for family needs. When he got home, she had saved it all the money and gave it back to him, telling him to buy a car. He ended up buying a 1948 Buick. I wish he kept the car.

The last thing I'd do is load up that car with a forklift, its only going to add to the cost of the restoration fixing any extra damage the forklift may have done underneath, you can mount a hand winch to the trailer from a boat trailer there as cheap as chips and wont damage anything on the restoration project .i hope this car gets restored to its former factory appearance, beaut car.

Can't hrlp but to compare it to a Nash Rambler who looked somewhat similar, only with fender skirts all the way round the car. Pain in the butt to change a tire if it went flat on s Nash Rambler. Their heavy six cylinder engines could NEVER wear out a valve on thd Nash Rambler.

First you would have to get the window to roll down, which it may very well have not been able to do, because if you look closely you will see the door will not open because of the fender on the trailer will block the door. If you have never loaded a car on a trailer like that, I have, you would not know that but you can clearly see it on the passenger side of the car. Do not assume these people would not have done just that if it were easy, I am sure they are quite aware the door won't open once the car is on the trailer.

'48 Super Sedanettes are about 3800lbs according to original specs. I own one. Even tho they're all steel and iron, those big fenders have just air underneath them. It's not like a modern car where there's barely a square inch of free space under the skin.
