Great Review, I have a Helix 300, which I am going to use for the first time this spring. Had a Tempest 200 before, which is very similar and used it on two 6 week bike trips in the alps and the south of europe. It survived a couple extreme thunderstorms with harsh 5 hour rain and kept us absolutely dry, so I can assure you these tents are excellent if you are looking for something REALLY waterproof. It also did fine in wind, tested up to about Beaufort 8 or 9. . Drawbacks of Vango tents seems to be heat. If you are using it in subtropical climates it is a pain in the ass top sleep with the entrance closed since the ventilation opening is so small. If you open the entrance all the way it is bearable but you probably will be eaten by mosquitos, I speak from experience... For the price however you can't get anything of similar quality and this is extremely well spent money. If you don't want to compromise be ready to spend 3 times as much (Hilleberg, MSR etc.)
Indeed, picking a tent seems like an agony sometimes. That's why an active community of hikers is so important! Check out the other tent review I posted for Robens Buzzard & Quickhiker Ultralight. Good luck with your shopping and let us know what you chose in the end!
Excellent review!! Just one question. I'm going camping this winter to a very rainy region and I need to know if the tent itself will be sufficient to keep me dry during rain. Will I be needing extra stuff?? Thank you!!
+Bárbara Flores I am glad you liked the review :) We predominantly used it in dry region so not much experience there. Nevertheless, we did stay in it during rain, pitched on wet ground- no issues. With the 10000 HH floor I wouldn't expect any problems. That being said, Vango does offer a footprint to the tent (which I think also covers the vestibule so your bags don't get wet). We used our own self made from painting cover, super light though not very durable.
Hi, thanks. As for the switch, you are certainly sacrificing the side entry benefit with Coleman for a more waterproof flysheet. I think the weight is similar, especially that you go for Helix 100.
+Bushcraft Adventures France I just got back from a very wet Iceland the Helix 100 did amazing!!! I cannot fault it. For price and size/weight...it's brilliant.
good review..despite missing out on the tents building & unboxing etc. im glad u mentioned missing tent pegs - but nothing which a sharpened stick couldnt cover.

Good review.
Nice tent for cycle touring.
Good review. I'm about to sell my Coleman Cobra 2 to get the Helix 100.

ad set From reading on Vango site, says the Helix 100 is 0.6kg lighter, and pack size also smaller. Should arrive today, excited to get it up!!!
+ThisIsBarcode did you get it im after something around 1.5 kilos are the doors good bit worried about direct rain?
