I had the pleasure, or rather the honor, of having worked as an Export Customer Service Representative for this car. That was the best time of my professional life. Of the many celebrities I met, the car itself was the most impressive. Unbeatable!

Probably the finest automobile ever made in terms of quality of materials and design. Ady’s enthusiasm is infectious!

When I was a kid in high school, back in 78, I was friends with a kid named Steve Smith, whose father collected Mercedes cars from the 60s and 70s. He had several 600s including 3 Pullman limos. They were really astounding vehicles, so full of 60s technology. Occasionally he would drive one into town to his dad's office (they lived about 15 miles outside of Columbus, Ohio.)

Thank you Ady for such an amazing conveyance.
Must have huge structural rigidity for such a long car to have the rear doors open clear of any buttressing.
In 1993 I was custodian / chauffeur for a new 1991 Coachbuilt one off, Hopper Rolls-Royce Emperor State Landaulette for an Australian tour of motor shows and charity events. At the time it took 2 years to build and cost around US$1.0m.
It was a similar length to your landaulet and included rearward facing centre seats with built in tables and Toshiba computer, a centre sunroof, a rear mohair convertible and lift out targa top for standing for street parades. Crystal champagne fluets & spirit glasses. LCD TV, silver his & hers Asperys grooming sets, chauffeur's division, intercom, reclining rear lounge.
Hooper made 12 closed Emperor Limousines.
    It had a 6.75 litre RR V8.
I drove Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 once... fastest sedan of its day in 1971.
    Great fun.

Well thanks for providing an answer to a question I ve had for a long time about this particular 600,glad to see it "alive"; most of its various successors ( as presidential limo of Senegal 🇸🇳) did unfortunately not fare so well . As a kid I saw this very car transporting then President Senghor a few times ; and there were 3 600 2 LWBs this one and a hardtop as well as a light blue SWB 600 . Now thanks to this video I only have to wonder about the other 2 . THANKS 😊

Mercedes really said in 1963: *Lets make the best luxury car ever*
They beat out everyone with the 600. Eldorados were pretty much the top dog in the 50s but in the 60s they couldn't stand a chance to Mercedes quality

'Mostly bad guys............de Pope had one!' 😂🤣
Actually he's totally wrong about the assassination attempt on the Pope in 1981. While it is true the Pope did have one of these cars (it was a 1965 and was built for Pope Paul VI) , John Paul II was actually riding in the 'popemobile' around Saint Peter's Square greeting the crowds when he was shot.
It's also interesting to note that the Pope's Pullman (which John Paul II returned to Mercedes Benz in 1985) had bullet proof glass. The popemobile was totally open.

The 600 also has the loudest horn ever to have been fitted to an automobile. Jeremy Clarkson owns one & demonstrated it once on Top Gear.

The reality is that the air horn was made with the very same tone as Germany's flagship ocean liner of the time, the S.S. Bremen (I think). And yes it is loud (I've heard it in person)

By the way saddam wasn’t a bad guy, he was only bad because he didn’t want to share his oil with USA

    • @elgee1811
      @elgee1811 ปีที่แล้ว

So starting wars and committing genocidal attacks against the Kurds and other ethnic minorities in northern Iraq wasn't bad? Especially the chemical attacks had little to do with oil or the USA, he just thought of those people as supporters of Iran, his number one enemy back in the day.
The sheer fact that his regime was finally overthrown in an unjustified war doesn't make him a good person.
