Tropical fruit is what my Thai family grow here Tony. Durian, Mango, Rambutan, Mangosteen, Longon, Jackfruit, Custard apple, Dragon fruit, Pineapple, Banana and many more. I consider myself lucky when it comes to fruit :) Great video, thanks.
Thanks for sharing this, Tony. I have 6 grapevines, 6 blueberry, 8' of blackberry, 16' of raspberries, two espalier apples, and 4 new apple trees this year. I agree we all need to be growing fruit! I didn't realize there were thornless gooseberry so I'll be looking for those. Thanks.
Your grape vines are looking great Tony. I've been watching since you planted them, & this inspired me to have a go. I now have 4 varieties at 3 years old & doing great, thanks to following your advice. Keep up the awesome videos.
I must say Tony i dont know how you work full time as a fire fighter and grow so much fruit and veg plus write books and run this channel. Just amazing.
Thanks for another great video Tony, I remember picking gooseberrys in the garden as a kid and stopping in laybys and picking blackberrys on the way to the beach with my grandparents. Recently rewatched your potatoes and strawberries videos, I have a dozen of the Lakeland 25L ones you recommend and 3 fabric ones, all full of spuds, 2 buckets of first earlies have been going for 3 whole months now (half under plastic on the raised bed, I'm going to give it another week or two as I started a bit too early according to some opinions. Far too many tomatoes, half will be given away. basil, lettuce going well, perpetual spinach planted out today, pepper from last year aclamatised. Peas and beans. Several raspberries, strawberries and a rhubarb. Thanks for all your videos and the advice and inspiration. Second year growing Oh and an apple tree last autumn. ❤️🙏 7:468:308:30
Im jelly of your fruit cage Tony !! We just started down this path, white currant and 2 Autumn fruiting raspberries. Saved this vid to playlist for future reference 🤜🤛 Cheers 🌱👍
I would highly recommend growing Japanese wine berries. They grow similar to raspberries and are an amazing fruit and so tasty. If I had to pick only one fruit to grow it would be that.
Hi Tony, A fantastic range of fruits to grow in UK. The hybrid soft fruits are grossly underrated often outshined by their parents. PAX thornless gooseberries are another favourite of mine. Nice one mate 👍🏻
i'm taking cuttings of a plum and a sloe by air layering-encouraging a branch to root while still on the tree.think they have another month to go.not sure if they will want supplemental water, havent heard of people needing to do that...tried taking sloe cuttings in the past and it never worked.maybe this method
great video Tony, will have to see if there are any loganberry plants at the show tomorrow! would love a fruit cage like yours as looks fab! my autumn raspberries from 20 plants have spread so much last year and again this year so will have to thin them out this year or end if this year! oh wow a kiwi how amazing - be interesting to know how fast this grows! didnt know gooseberries can be grown that easily, are they similar to blackcurrants? got grapevine envy! no room in my poly tunnel for these so would need another! got 2 fig plants and hoping this year to get some off of one! love that you saved that pear tree of your grandfathers! hope to see you tomorrow!
How easy is it to propagate blackcurrant? I’m very interested in learning propagation. Love your new brassica cage video you posted on your patreon! Love the additional content your posting 🥰
@@simplifygardening i seen it on my council round 1st and after some asking i found out what it was and bought it , they are surprisingly nice alot of fruit on for the size of the tree, there are some videos on here of it
Great info Tony. Have you ever tried Feijoa? Acca sellowiana/Feijoa sellowiana. (Americans call it Pineapple guava and its very popular in New Zealand) I've seen it fruiting in the cooler areas of Northern Spain and its a big crop in Georgia. Its really delicious but a bit tender, might fruit in a tunnel, mine flower here in Ireland but the fruit never develops outside.
Tony, I'm wondering where you buy such a large area of bird netting, or whether there's a system for joining the smaller widths together? My whole garden is about the size of your cage and has 8ft garden walls, so I could cover the entire garden if I can find the netting. Thanks, Rick
Do peaches and nectarines get peach leaf curl when grown outside? My mum always told me this would be the case if I grew them outside. I would love to grow them but am reluctant to do so as \i don't spray and don't want to waste money on trees that will get diseased. Thank you so much. Have just subscribed. ThAnk you 😃
Yeah they can do I always had them in my tunnel but they got too big and blocked out the light. So will see how they do and if not will deal with it then
Another fantastic video Tony, I love the massive fruit cage and wish I had the room for a decent sized one like that. Is there certain companion plants you could plant in there to deter pests like Mint e.g.
@@simplifygardening I've got a real big Ant problem at the moment and have considered Silkie bantams or quail for the taller crops but the Gooseberry and Strawberries are no no. Keep up the great content 👍.
the kiwi would not grow well in colder climates but there is a vine with mini kiwis. here in Denmark they are called gooseberry kiwis. I think the latin name is argo something and the variety is called "issai" they are about the size of strawberries with thin skin that doesnt need peeling. they are tasty and easy. there are plenty of more fruits avaiable but always taste them first. I had planted gooseberries before I found out that I dont like the taste.
The Japanese have just developed a banana that grows in cold weather and you can eat the skins, I've trying to locate some if you have any luck could please let me know by the way you forgot the most important fruit on an allotment Rhubarb I know you have got some so that 18 different fruits, I'm a bit behind you I only have about 10 different type, I've not got room for all those trees Nice video

Yeah having the temps really does help with tropicals, but I wont let it hold me back ;)
@@simplifygardening At least you can grow an abundance of Strawberries, Raspberries and Blackcurrants (my favorites) which I cant' :)
I'm growing dragon fruit in my house south facing in the UK
and you get fruit?

I was stunned at the amount of fruit you had at your place Tony. A whole plot full 😂 great selections too! Cheers Tony. Danny 🌱

Hi! Thanks for your generous understandable English! Also your knowledge, of course
Thanks :)
The Haskaps/Honeyberries are coming along well Tony
Yes Nick flying mate
Spot on Tony, massive savings to be made with fruit and so many varieties you can't get in the shops
Interesting to learn about needing more than one variety of blueberries thank you 🙏
Glad there was some nugget in there for you Lizzie

Stunning variety of fruit. Best wishes for a bumper crop this year.
Thanks Rene
Mr. Tony, do make another video when the fruit is coming ripe. Would love to see how it all turns out. Thank you for your videos.
Will do Anne
I’d be interested too! Diolch mate!
Since you manage to create conditions for grapes and figs, maybe try pomgranates?
Oh now there is an idea
do you have climatic measuerments for your garden and greenhouse?
You might get Physalis peruviana to work in the poly tunnel too. (I’m also jealous of your fruit cage btw)
Thanks for sharing that. The cage is such a great thing to have makes life easier

You can buy the netting on Oakland gardens . Co .uk

You could grow a ground cover but it’s where I plant my squash and just leave it roam the ground

Yeah if I was gonna go down that route tomatoes cues all sorts could have been included
I'm not bad in growing, it is storage for longer periods that I find difficult.
I will make a video on it at harvest time
I've had a Kiwi in my front garden for over a decade. Had flowers once or twice, but no fruit.
Maybe I was lucky last year but we did have record breaking heat
have you tried Guava Kapow?

Several large suppliers now stock it. Apparently it was Queen Victoria's favourite fruit. I just got 6 plants.
Which root stock do you have on your apple trees please.
I think m9
