    I did the same tracks on a skateboard

    Have never really considered the CX-5 as a 100% off-road SUV and its no surprise that the Forester wins that particular argument. As for an overall comparison, there is no comparison!

    What a beautiful setting. The CX-5 is surprisingly great, but I drive on forest tracks and in Winter a lot and would opt for the Subaru.

    Subarus can go a lot further than what they are ever shown on these type of videos. I've been driving a 2.5 Outback for 7 years now and have even amazed "proper" off-roaders

    • @Deepblackice
      @Deepblackice 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yep even I've been surprised of how well the Forester works on beach tracks
      just light car gives it that extra edge!

      Yeah I suspect they were at a pains not to accidentally break anything. There's definitely tracks around my place more challenging than what he showed and I wouldn't hesitate to take a Forester.

    Two of my neighbors have the cx5. I test drove the Mazda first and then the Subaru. The Mazda does look nicer, but in the end I chose
    the Subaru Forester. I’m really happy with my decision.

      @jimcrants7517 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why did you choose the Forester? I'm curious because I'm about to start car-shopping.

      Subaru has a real AWD and has no competitors when it comes to offroading or driving on snowy, icy environments. I'm no Subaru fan, you can check the fact yourself.

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mikaelborhzka7627 Audi actually performs better then Subaru when it comes to snow and ice. Mazda actually comes in very close to Subaru, check out some reviews were they actually do some off roading instead of driving on mostly level ground.
      Oh and god help you if you ever have any issue with your Subaru. Their dealer network is smoke an mirrors. They'll suck up to you during the initial purchase phase. But after that things change. I personally wont recommend Subaru to anyone.

    I wish Mazda would put the 2.5L turbo in the new CX5 and sell it with an MPS badge on it. The car is too pretty for an SUV.
    My head would tell me to get the forester but if it came down to it, id end up with the cx5. These cars are likely to never go off roading. And it looks the business not to mention it has more grunt

    • @madrx2
      @madrx2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like the forester Xt would be right for you.

    • @OfficialMINIm
      @OfficialMINIm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      meh the CVT drags the Xt down. and the fact that the STI version is just cosmetic work also makes me upset. i wish theyd put the 2.5 boxer from wrx sti and give it a normal automatic or a stick shift. the engine in the Xt is sweet but not the gear box and i still dont think the forester Xt even in STI guise look anywhere as good as the CX5

    • @madrx2
      @madrx2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OfficialMINIm yes, the cvt also puts me off Subaru, I do like the eyesight system though. The shape is due for an upgrade soon that's for sure. I like the Mazda's but they get pretty pricey once all the boxes are ticked. Maybe the Tiguan with the golf gti engine?

    • @OfficialMINIm
      @OfficialMINIm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      madrx2 yeh in this segment id really only be looking at either this or the tiguan 162 tsi r line

    • @ronaldov09
      @ronaldov09 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ended up with the XT after driving most of them. CVT is great if you use the car as a daily conveyence and dont push it hard on a daily basis. Dont notice any drone, hardly revs past 3000, just sits in the torque band and pulls along nicely., while returning very good economy figures. Found it much better than Mazda 2.5L, although I would prefer the TC gearbox from the CX5 I must admit. I do love the R line 162TSI, but over 10K over what I paid for the XT, no thanks.

    "subaru knows most people are never going to do this sort of thing" - stupid comment really if that was the case why bother making the car in the first place, i would say most forester owners would at some point take it a little bit off road at least once.

    • @leWuff1
      @leWuff1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, you're right. My dad ordered a Subaru Forester 2.0x Exclusive last week and wants to complete a off road course.

    • @jimcrants7517
      @jimcrants7517 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've never done any real off-roading, but I find the Forester's off-road capabilities useful for driving in deep snow or going up rocky forest service roads in the mountains.

    • @nedi1986
      @nedi1986 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah! Most owners know Subaru's AWD capabilities. People in Idaho love them because we love outdoors here and there a tons of places to go in the wild + lots of snow in the winter.

    if you are more of a road man and a bit of off road the cx5 wins hands down.if you will be doing a fair amount of off road the subaru is the best choice.personally the mazda is the best.

    Guys, it is as simple as this, the Subaru is a car, with a lot of good stuff and amazing driving ability, it is off roading lot better than many "SUV" wanna be cars as the Mazda here, the price is cheaper but you get a lot of a car for the money and it dose what it is made for with strength and style. Simple and smooth!
    If you wanna argue about luxury and bla bla do it but still fact is a fact!

  • @Soul-Taker

  • @madrx2

    I wouldn't take these things much further off the beaten track than a dirt road. In saying that, Subaru really should make a proper 4x4 or dual cab 4x4 ute! I'd buy one,

      madrx2 Do a quick search on TH-cam. There are plenty of videos of people doing some amazing stuff off road in a Forester. Not a rock crawler but not bad for what it is.

      As an owner of a 2015 Forester XT, I agree with Madrx2, I'd love to have a low gear range and a rear locker. I don't think it's asking for too much more :)
      I take my forester off the beaten path and to some amazing places but I had to use momentum to take me to some of those places. It's a fun way to get up a rutted hill, but having the option to crawl up would be nice.

      th-cam.com/video/zb-Y5RSdK7A/w-d-xo.html&
      you'll be surprised of how well it does
      220mm ground clearance, better than an Amarok
      low range is not necessary these days with crazy technology and hill descent control technology

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring
      @JonDZ_Adventuring 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will admit. I did not expect my Forester to make it to the top of my local Sand Dunes over here in California, USA. I'm not claiming it will hang with a Ford Raptor, just saying you can probably take it on more than a dirt road.

    Subaru really needs to work on their design. It looks like a car from the 1990s for crying out loud. The Forester can certain colors looks decent but again next to the Mazda designs they looked very Bland. On the other hand Mazda really needs to give the CX5 more power, hopefully with the diesel this will happen. I've only tried the 180 horsepower in the United States and it feels kind of weak

      The interior is nicer in the CX5, no doubt about it. I wouldn't exactly call the Forester cheap, and the CX5 luxury though! Inside the Subie I find visibility much better, and it also seems brighter....I prefer that over some soft touch materials on the dash that I never touch. I can understand those who like pretty over utility.
