I worked at a Pontiac Dealership in California from 1978- 1984. I drove these Trans Am and Firebirds, and loved them all. We installed the bird on the hood the same way, taking out the air bubbles with plastic squeegees. I would like to own a Trans Am if there is a drawing.
As much as I love the Black Bandit color scheme, keeping the same look, but with more individuality, would have been to use the gold stripe decal set on a lime green metallic. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
pro tip: tape half the decal to the hood, peel the other half and use a blade to cut the backing, stick the center of the decal down and move outwards. lift the tape the repeat the other side. this way you can position the decal and not have to use 3 people!
Hey don’t give up. It took me a year to find my 79 Blk/Gold TA 4 speed at a price I could afford in a condition I could work with. 3rd owner here and it was a steal from a car hoarder who had it garaged and engine was rebuilt too! No computer or ABS!

Years ago (1980s), a guy paid me a ridiculous amount of money to create a replica of the screaming chicken in a prismatic vinyl material. Took me almost a month to finish laying it out and cutting it (no computerized vinyl cutters at the time), and applying it was a nerve-wracking experience. I also did the companion TRANS AM script for the rear of the spoiler, plus a few other trim items. But when it was done.... oh, man was it SHARP. On a deep blue '75 - a pure show car, never actually driven. When it rolled into the sunlight, the decals sparkled like the Vegas strip.
The black is nice but I'd sure like to have seen you guys bring it up to snuff in the red. Burt Reynolds did the black and it was beautiful.....why copy? Man,, that paint looks a mile deep!

UV light will cause the CF to haze in time, OEM's use a insanely expensive clear coat to prolong that outcome. The cheaper clears add maybe 2 to 5 years. These days a decent finish should last 20 years plus, a gel coated CF hazes in about 2-5 years raw not sure about the dry look CF. Perhaps more problematic is the aftermarket CF hoods flex, a lot, so the chances are high that it will crack the finish in about 5 years anyway. Use flex agents like on bumpers and it will likely peal off in sheets or never shine like the rest of the finish.
@@ineffable1129 true, a good sand and a decent clear coat should hold up for a good amount of time. If someone is going to paint a carbon fiber hood, why not just get a fiberglass hood 🤷♂️
