And I just got mk1 Smoke. One thing I've found is that if you cancel both combo enders, meaning you play without combo enders, the opponent can't escape most of the time. So, play without combo enders until the Ninjutsu button is available. Smoke can generate Special 2 easily, and then when you use the Ninjutsu button, play with combo enders.
I played without a block breaker gear easily, and after 7 Fuming buffs, meaning a 70% unblockable chance, he doesn't need block breaker gear. I can use the 1-slot gear for damage gear.
I think mk1 shang tsuang is good for beginners because it has incurability which is only 2 character has because incurability can be obtained by equipment but new player doesn't have that epics in new account that's why it is good and it has snare on sp1 and kenshi is also good it's passive is very good and it's sp2 gives lot of damage (It is my opinion 🌚🌚)
I completely agree with you ma Man. Shang Tsung has so much utility and can be useful in many scenarios. His only flaw is that he is a Little slow (2nd). I have been using Mk1 scorpion a lot recently in (kold tower). And he can single handedly defeat all 3 bosses in a single run without tagging out. He deals insane amount of damage when his vitality bar is full. Rank (1st) I also love MK1 kenshi too, he is perfect against opponents who can resurrect. Rank (3rd) Haven't used smoke and mileena yet. But from what i have seen so far, they will occupy 4th and 5th respectively.
In terms of Boss battles, I don't think Shang Tsung is a good candidate. He is a great character tho, no doubt. His special attack animations are long, so by the time he performs SP2, crafts an elixir and injects the opponent, he is ready to tag out, which is effective in situations like sand storm (fatal elder wind tower), off balance etc... But every Boss battle has a count down timer, and using slow characters means you will need more attempts to finish them off. This is the the reason why most players like using characters with quick special attacks (klassic Liu Kang, kC Johnny, MK 11 scorpion etc...)
i like mk1 shang cause he has high utility than other mk1 characters and can control the fight much more EZ than others mk1 characters and mk1 kenshi is my 2nd fav cause he is very fun to play and has some serious damage
IMO, Mk1 Shang is probably Best among them, as u mentioned he has almost everything, PowerDrain, Snare, Stun, incurability(for little while) that can be useful in normal battles, it's not like i use him in Main battles/Boss but probably better among current Mk1 team. Main prob with Kenshi is his very fist combo starting with Sword removal is very slow and unreliable, and after update 6.0.1 it's even extremely difficult to predict enemy and it's likely to miss first hit which might mess up badly in certain moments. Haven't tested Smoke more but my first impressions were ok, as same for Scorpion and meelena.

Mk1 shang tsung is by far top 5 S-tier because he is reliable, can pick combos from anywhere, If you play him right you don't need blockbreak, Can save anyone multiple times, 12 different buffs and debuffs, 3 permanent debuffs, Good fighter, etc.

You can build so many strategies on or around him. And if you are talking about damage dealing he can be a damage dealer because of his green elixir+sp1+tag-out attack.

I think the term is called DPS or something. Joker I would say isn't in the elite levels either. His incurability is really good for new player strategies with ermac.

215 mk1 smoke summon packs 0 smoke. he is trash wasted so much dragon krystals for him I am very disappointed NRS loves challenge gold kards this is ridiculous not even 1 copy
For me mk1 kenshi at 1 because of sp1 death mark and his ancestors ability and also blind immunity 2 i am confuse between scorpion and shang shung because they both have ability that can useful in survival 3 smoke because of his unblockable, sneak ability 4 mileena i don't found her so useful 😅
Finally maxed out my mk1 Scorpion. He is a great boss killer. when his fire vitality is full, his damage output is massive! 👑

If you ranking as usefulness then mk1 shang shung but if you ranking as a damage dealer then mk 1 scorpion takes lead always
