Two primary concerns: 1) Using the same cuvette for all the different reagents and tests, means cleaning is more important, and how are results affected if cross contamination occurs? 2) already stated here in different terms, but with separate testers I'm accustomed to running 3 tests at a time (I start a different test while the timer runs on the first, then finnish with Alk as it's so fast). Then I rinse and clean all 3 cuvettes at once, so less trips to the sink. Having to wait for each one to finish and run the tests serially is a big time sink. Makes sense if you're new to Hanna if you don't mind the waiting!
That's true that cleaning the cuvette will be important, but it has always been important with the stand-alone Hanna checkers too. I'm sure that extra cuvettes will become available in the near future. I can understand your second point if you've gotten good at running tests simultaneously.
As others have pointed out... this would be great looking to upfront buy a testing kit that does everything even if you must still do individual tests. But for those that have some of the tests kits, less incentivized. I still might consider one, though. I can always sell or gift the individual testers just to keep equipment accumulation to a minimum. The one thing I wish they would consider/have done (aside from the magic single sample for all tests): integrations with GHL, Neptune, and CoralVue to log/display data. Perhaps as a feature add or submodel (i.e. similar to Apex and Apex EL, or other lines of "pro" versions of something and "less pro" versions).
All of the instructions on the screen for each test, for those of you with a bad memory, all tests and pipettes in one kit, waterproof, easy readout screen, small form factor. Definitely a buy over purchasing the individuals. Seems like it tests quicker as well from other videos.
Depends on how much it costs here compared to just getting the individuals. Really I'm still just put off by the cost of the reagents compared to other kits, and I would never get the Nitrite Checker anyway, so that would be a bit wasted on me.
How is it more expensive than buying every single one separately? Even with the cheap data entry log book that equates to a 1990 OS, there should be a volume discount.
So, still have to do all the tests one by one. I suppose a single unit is nice. But totally pointless for anyone who already has all of these test kits for all the things.
There are some additional features like logging that you won't get with the individual checkers, but you're right. If you own all of the individual checkers, it likely doesn't make sense from a budget perspective for you to purchase this checker.
Major selling point for me is shock and water resistant... having dropped a phosphate tester and had the cuvette shatter and fry it... and the step by step is nice to...
1. Does it have a backlight? Doesn't seem so. 2. Does it beep when done testing? Doesn't seem so 3. Couldn't they add a colluded LCD and Wi-Fi features so your logs are also in the Cloud? 4. Did Hanna hit it out if the park? Doesn't seem so.
Wifi and a cloud would increase the price point a lot as well as require additional infrastructure and security. What cloud would it go to, internal or external? It logs it internal to the device for review so you can either keep it there or log it in whatever app of your chosing. I don't see that to be a deal breaker, or really even matter if this is going to be affordable.
IF I were to even consider buying this ( which I doubt) it will be at least 6 months down the road after all the BRS sycophants who buy everything they recommend have tested it. I like how BRS is responding to said sycophants and ignoring the doubters who have questions.
Wow! I wish I had not of bought a new alk tester but If I would have had this it would not have broken because I accidentally got water in the other. I left the cuvette inside and it leaked! Are all the tests performed the same? (meaning same regents ect.) I was always happy using nyos nitrate because the nitrate seemed t o have to many steps! I hate testing calcium and mag or anything that have to judge the colors except for nyos nitrate is very easy to read and preform. One of the biggest selling points is less clutter and being able to log results. I am always losing my log book! LOL Not to mentions I am running out of space in cabinets from all my gear! I have dedicated to many kitchen cabinets for my tanks because tanks are close to my kitchen and one is in the kitchen!
Going to have to politely disagree that this thing gives what we've asked all along. While logging data is nice, the fact we have to basically do every test separately is a major downer, I 100% get the realism and you can't do a single test that measures everything but this really is a fancy box that puts all checkers in one, even ones that I really don't want/need. Akalinity, Nitrate, and Phosphate are really the only ones I care about, Calcium would be on there too if not for fact the prior Hanna checker had some issues. If I cared about pH I'd have a probe in the tank attached to a monitor/controller, I barely care about nitrite when I cycle a tank too. 0:54 "Also about $50 more than if I were to buy each test separately, and that in itself is worth it for me" I'm sorry? You paying more for something makes it worth it? Also unless I'm missing something, according to the product page it seems to have 6 test kits in it, which at $50 each would make this $100 more than if you bought each separately, so more worth it?
The idea of this is cool! 😎 however I’m not a fan of spending more money and still running each test separately. As I understand why they have to be as they each need different reagents to read the water, I personally would rather have the individual testers that way if one brakes or malfunctions it’s only $50+ tax for a replacement not several hundred. Especially after owning one of the single testers and it’s already malfunctioning after only a year… don’t get me wrong I’m having a hard time picking something different than Hanna for my main tests (ALK, & Po4) 🤷♂️ but that fact that I’m looking for something different means a lot to me when it’s always been hands down Hanna for me.
I didn't think about it that way.....If it breaks I can't test ANYTHING....but with individual testers if one breaks you're only out for that individual test and it only costs $40-$50 to replace. I already own the Nitrate HR & LR, Cal, Alk and pH. It's not really worth buying this if you already own a few. Now, if they could come up with a single sample that does all of these tests I would pay double this price....maybe more. But then again, individual tests would be more accurate than an all-in-one test.....that's usually the case.
