    I absolutely love the winter scenery! It makes a nice change from summer and fall scenery. The layout looks really nice! Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks! I love winter - was really disappointed we received virtually no snow this year. I have a few new snow products and techniques to share so look for that video coming up.

    Lots of work done this past month. I like the way you added plexiglass around the layout. On my layout I’m putting back drop around three sides and plexiglass on the front. I have a 4’ x 7’ 6” layout and it is sliders so I can pull out from the wall. Yes I have many small hands a total of ten grandchildren and six under eleven years old. I’m planning on putting plexiglass on top to help keep the dust down. I look forward to your updates. Thanks for sharing. Have a great 4th. 😎😎👍

      Oh yes, you're going to want plexi LOL! the backdrop on three sides will be nice - almost sort of picture-framing the layout. Will give it a nice immersive feel when you view it at eye level.

      I was pleasantly surprised how much i accomplished because i didn't expect the get that much done. Summers are challenging with so much adult stuff needing done around the house! Have a great and safe 4th!

      same day i put the plexi up, i elbowed it three times - that would have been three hits to the building in about a twenty minute span so i don't regret it!

      There's always something; it'll never be done. I do need to stop reworking existing scenes until i finish some of the plywood areas, though. Then of course there's rolling stock and loco details and weathering and building interiors....

    You have been busy! Did you see Walthers came out with a 4 shed kit? I got mine last Friday, it is made in 4 colors. You get one medium size pole barn and three sheds on different sizes. Like the idea of the lexan look easy to take down. Little fingers are not the only ones big fingers like to figure out how a building is lighted. Your heavy equipment really makes the scene. Have a great 4th!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't see the shed kit - but i do need to figure out a few more building kits to place so those might be beneficial in some of my industrial areas. I have two or three screws in each piece of plexi so they come right out if i need to take them down or replace them. I made sure they were screwed in separately from the fascia so i didn't need to remove both. I love the heavy equipment stuff... thank God for 3D printing!

    Great update! You have me itching to start a layout will all these videos!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Such a relaxing hobby and there's such enjoyment in just letting trains run. It's easy to lose track of the hours listening to music and building models.

    • @midwestrailroader5793
      @midwestrailroader5793 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlleghenyNorthern do you run a dehumidifier in your basement? Or is it pretty well sealed? Been thinking of putting a table in my basement. But I have to run a dehumidifier to keep it around 45%. Was not sure how much that would affect the track.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@midwestrailroader5793 i have one, but i haven't run it yet this year. i usually set it about 60% and that's usually enough. i don't want to dry the space out too much because the basement is in general, dry. I have not had any issues with expansion/contraction or warping from humidity.

    • @midwestrailroader5793
      @midwestrailroader5793 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlleghenyNorthern that’s music to my ears! Figured I’d have to drop it down to 45%. Appreciate the help, looking forward to seeing more update videos!

    Great looking layout and video.
    What percentage of your layout is Unitrack and what percentage is other?
    I am a big Unitack fan and use it on my layout (also N Scale)

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  ปีที่แล้ว

      The layout is all Unitrack except for a few of the straight mainline line sections and the staging yard which utilizes Kato's flex track and cork roadbed. The turnouts are all Kato #6 and #4 with two dual crossovers and two single crossovers. Unitrack is definitely the best system i've used.

    • @theuprrladivonyoutube
      @theuprrladivonyoutube ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlleghenyNorthern I agree. I used Atlas Track and Peco switches for years then found Unitrack in 2000 as I stated a new layout and have never looked back. I am on my 3rd layout using it. My current layouts track work was done when Kato came out with their Flex Track but it looks like another good addition to the Unitrack product line. Thanks for the response and be safe.

    Question. how do you protect your layout from dust?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  ปีที่แล้ว

      Short answer, I don't. There's no covers, cloths, or specialty equipment involved but there's a few conditions that help. 1) The room is finished with walls, ceiling, and flooring. This helps minimize dust. 2) I clean up after every project, including sweeping the floor. 3) I use electronics cleaners on the rails after each project and once a year on the entire layout for good connectivity. The products are by CRC. 4) Rarely, and I do mean rarely, i use the hose connection on a household vacuum and sweep loose scenery material off the layout. 5) for buildings and trains, i use an extremely soft paint brush to lightly dust the models. But, each of these steps runs the risk of damaging something on the layout - so unless it really needs it, i try to avoid excessive roughhousing with the models.
