I always hated how they dumbed Karen and Jack in later seasons. The scenes with Madonna were a perfect example. Karen's childhood was lower-middle class, moving around all the time... there's no way she wouldn't know how to open a can of soda, or what a laundromat was. Then Jack explaining to her "It is a laundromat" while overpronouncing every syllable. Neither of them is stupid. They were both shallow but decent in the first few seasons, but never dumb.
