Yes, I was listening to him driving to work I had about 20 minutes. I wanted the preacher to get right to the point so I could get some word in my spirit before work.
Hey Jonathan, This is addressed in part 2, but rather the story is a historical account or parable narrative, the sign of Jonah was made to reflect the sign of Jonah and the result in Jonah as a messianic sign. In other words, no. If a Christian scholar believes it is a parable then the point Yeshua made was still valid and a reference to the Book of Jonah. Thus, the sign Yeshua claimed to bring was valid if is aligned with the sign of Jonah- which is most certainly did (and not simply how long He was in the grave).
Absolutely - There are pros and cons to each theory concerning the impact of the story. We personally believe whichever theory could be correct does not change the legitimacy of Yeshua's declaration.
We do not see that in scripture. The timeline marker of the message is reviewing the "typical" story we see told in children's books in contrast to what the author of Jonah wrote.
I think the worst thing in the average church's mode of teaching is what I call "Flannel Graph Theology", where we teach lies to children in Sunday School and then the little minds of wet concrete harden and it is nearly impossible to recast it.
mark pitrone such a great comparison. For this reason and many others all believers should be SO CAREFUL how biblical stories are told... and people wonder why children don't believe the Word of God, when we have to spend their whole lives undoing the lies they learned as children!! Two by two on the ark? No, there were 7 pairs of clean animals! It's SO EASY to learn lies and so hard to undo them!
Jonah is also mentioned by Jesus in Matthew chapter 12 verse 39 - 41 ...... 39....But he answered them an evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign but no sign shall be given to it except for the sign of the prophet Jonah ..40 ..For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale so will the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth... 41...The man of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it for they repented at the preaching of Jonah and behold something greater than Jonah is here .... You only brought up 2 kings at 34:36 as a reference to where Jonah is talked about in scripture just wondering if you had missed it
I thoroughly enjoy listening to you. You are an awesome teacher!
"dove the faithful." That sounds incredibly sarcastic in context. Almost like Sir Robin the Brave.

I must confess that it simply dawned on me that it was blatant satire during a Yom Kippur service
Beautiful!
Thank you Brother!
ALL praise to the Most High!
Shalom
If Jonah is a parable, how do you reconcile Matthew 12:40? Wouldn't that mean the ressurection is fiction?

4:21 Jonah got scared??
