- There's a new Honda clone go kart/mini bike engine on the market, and we've been dying to get our hands on it because we've heard it has impressive performance as a stock engine. It's the Tillotson 212cc engine, which is a direct replacement for other ~200cc Honda clones, makes 10HP (stock) and has a lightened flywheel rated for 10,000RPM.

Single cylinder carburetor is the worst type of engine to turbo. Efi still might not help that much
Maybe with a boost referenced rrfpr but the ecotrons they used on the drift trike is a much better system. You just have to know how to tune

its so tough to add boost to a non fuel injected small engine. you basically have to build a box around the carb or a complicated boost reference setup, changing the jets won't do it. The mechanical fuel injection is so friggen easy, carb hat and fuel pressure gauge is all you need.
Should have uploaded a video showing how to replace the engine on an old generator with a Predator...
With Hurricane Florence on its way, I think it would have done well.

Generator engines have special crankshafts. They are not interchangeable.

I built a go kart with that motor but with the tillotson carb a header and intake. A 50 tooth sprocket and got 44 mph out of her. Great engine

You can get more power if you make 2 holes on the sides at the bottom of the cylinder to release the exhaust pressure in the cylinder, you may need a non return valve, also if you put a turbine you can direct the exhaust to the turbine to give you additional power.
Ike for style points, the 360 attempts were awesome. John, you were quick, but this was more about the drifting.

To stop all that vibration you can use a piece of car tire under the motor with holes drilled through it. Match up the size if the motors mounting plate with a little over size, about 1/2 to 1.5 in, all the way around and just bolt it down. Use locking nuts, maybe 2, on each bolt so they don't come undone while riding. This will eliminate a ton of vibration and make it seem more stable and controllable on pavement and off road. You can also do this on the axle but its a little more tricky to do.
All I gotta say, I'm sure John's parents love the idea of them drifting now.. LOL. Great effort guys!
Both races were very good so that makes this one difficult to decide. After giving it much thought and careful consideration, my vote goes to Ike on the race just cause he was able to power out of that wipeout without coming to a complete stop. Happy birthday Ike! 😁

That motor combined with your torque converter and being straight out of the box really hammered for it's small size, very impressed.
I think Ike has that, but good work to both of you. The cart is looking and driving great.
Since the bolt wasnt tight it stretched. Thats where the slack came from in the first place which allowed the rod to bounce around and create extra extra wear.
No need to polish the crank. Mix up some lye and water and dunk the crank overnight. The lye water will dissolve the aluminum, but won't touch the cast iron crank. All you have to do is ScotchBrite the leftover black stuff on the crank and BAM! No worries about undersizing the journal!
Ike has my vote. It’s partly because he took flipping the mower and gettin some meannn road rash like a champ. But can’t forget about the legend Johnny boy, much love to both of you.

there's no such thing as a lower rod bearing! IMHO what happened: got a little dry and heated up (chases more oil out!), aluminum expands (steel too), let the galling begin! maybe/IF they had a bearing with a hole and funnel shape aimed at the bearing's center, and an internal protrusion (in the case) for more oil to splash against and drip/pour right AT that funnel shape (and crank arms etc, keep it all WETTER) it'd greatly reduce the issue? oil gets slung vertical off the crank itself to wet the piston and cylinder wall anyway, so something aiming more oil directly at the lowed rod bearing... like a bundle of BIC cigarette lighter's flint springs maybe? the small coils would catch a whole lot and drip, surface tension and gravity helping put the oil where it needs to be.
(not saying an engine doesn't need some run-in time too)

My friend and I ran 30.3 with a 60 tooth spur and 12 tooth shaft gear with a stock 212... we didn’t think that was very fast but hey that wasn’t bad!!

My vote is for Ike. He's just more smooth with his transition into & out of his drifts. Plus, no offense John, but from all the video's I watched it seems to me that Ike is more of the risk-taker between the two of you. He just seems to have more confidence in his driving ability. Predator tolerances might have been too tight.
Sometimes they need to have the crank polished to open up the clearance.

Good God this looks like so much fun. I grew up with a go cart but it was just a 6 hp Briggs. Seemed like it went like 20 or so. Looks like you could get at least 40 mph with that engine

You all have bad weather headed your way very soon! Hurricane Florence! Many inches to many feet of water expected. Today is Tuesday 9-11-18. I've gotten many Weather Channel updates. It's showing both North and South Carolina's coast getting hit. And North Carolina's coast line getting many feet of water. Maybe time to get the Go-kart boat ready.
I could really use your abused predator engine for my daughter's dirt bug. I restored it and painted it pink for her. It still has the original engine that is extremely worn out and has low compression. I plan to eventually buy a predator for it when I have extra $$on hand. I made a little vid of it on my boys wrestling channel noahsdad1972 If your interested in seeing it. Not sure if you guys giveaway stuff but I figured I'd Atleast ask if you wanted to spread some love. Closed mouth don't get fed. Love the channel.!
Hate to be a follower but it’s gotta go to Ike. With a competition like this you guys could really benefit from a high camera mount for the epic drift shots, almost like a follow cam.
I feel like you guys oughtta put that 10,000 rpm rated flywheel to good use, make it rev boys! Get rid of the governor and make it do at least 8.

Drifting is all about style not time. Ike wins based on drift speed and angle at speed, the not quite a 360 but solid 270 entry and the ballsy hedge tap. Solid style all round. 91 for Ike but a SOLID 88 from John for bigger angle but slower drift speed.

Did you know that you can make the axle sprocket smaller by 10 or more teeth when using a torque converter which will translate into a lot more speed ?
$179.99 seems like a better deal than the predator 212 for a 10hp 10,000rpm engine I'm only a minute into the video so hopefully I decide I want one of these lol
