Looks good. How does it fare for thermal mass? Good to have when the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow for a few days….and electricity prices soar. A few more details on the construction appreciated, thicknesses types of insulation, floor?
Passive House doesn't take or need thermal mass into the calculation. However we believe the concrete slab has a stabilising effect on the internal temperature. The insulation and airtightness is doing the heavy lifting in terms of performance. Much like a YETI cooler which doesn't have thermal mass but works effectively. We find it is quite easy to keep a house warm in winter without extra heating. There is 240mm insulation (R6.0) in the roof and 150mm (R3.0) in the walls.
@@theleanarchitect we did a passiv house standard home here in Scotland, with a high thermal mass. The client, an engineer, calculated it would not need heating for six months (ie half the winter)
Love the imagination that's gone into this home! We're aiming for similar wall build up on the east coast, is this Diasen lime render? Our builder is aiming for a warrantied solution, not easy when the render is shipped from Europe!
Cold nights in winter are around 5 degrees, mean daily minimum is 10 degrees, Summer mean daily maximum 30 degrees with hot days 38 degrees www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/historyclimate/climatemodelled/perth_australia_2063523
Would you be able to kention the Builder who was involved in this project. And also woud love to know more in your future videos about the builders involved in your projects.
❤ Love the idea of moving the house to the back boundary and utilising the front for all the sun and more secure.
Yes! Thank you!
Awesome work Ben!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really interesting to hear how all the aspects were considered and how they’ve come together in a really nice build. Well done 🙌
Thank you very much!
Great work on these videos, really enjoying them. That cladding looks great with the timber battens!
Thank you! Cheers!

Yes this is Diasen Lime Render system
@@theleanarchitect Love it! Thankyou and keep up the great work :)
Looks really nice. What are the temperature ranges in winter and summer? Australia is a big place :)
Temp ranges for interior are between 18-25. Average around 22.

@@theleanarchitect . You have a very favourable climate. I live in Scotland…about 5 to 10 deg cooler…not so easy.
The great thing about passive house is that it can be applied to any climate

Thats a great idea. I will do some 'meet the builder'' videos
Ben, you’ve done it again!😂
Thanks for the encouragement! More to come!
what is the name of the insulating panel that looks like concrete? I couldn't understand your accent 😅
The outer cladding is wood fibre panelling by Steico. It is coated with a natural Lime render
