I’m 65 now and came to the Mearns just before my 5th birthday in 1960, I remember a lot of what is in this video, thanks to the person that uploaded it for bringing back the memories.

Brilliant. It's 2022 and this film is so significant, I wish they'd show it to all the kids that live there now. I'll be making my daughter watch it. Thanks to whoever put this together.

Thanks for posting, wonderful. I was brought up in the mearns in the 60s and 70s but remember lots from this video. I loved seeing my grandfather bowling, he died when I was only 6 so lovely to see him on the green he loved. Thank you.

My grandmother is from Newton Mearns and moved to Canada in the early 50s. Thanks for sharing this glimpse back in time.

I lived in Netherlee for twenty years and now live in Spain, you know looking at those old scenes we might have more now but we have really traveled backwards. I am 62 now and pleased to have seen this type of living. The young folks really are form a different planet. So sad to see what we have lost.

I used to spend my school holidays every summer in Newton Mearns with my Aunt and Uncle who lived on Castle Road. Their neighbours children became my great friends. I remember a conductress on the Mearns/Glasgow bus called Vera from back then ..Such happy times.

Thanks for this, seeing my old Primary School (now carpark) at 23:32 brought a lump to the throat.

I grew up in the West End of Glasgow and have never lived in the South Side but this home movie is a sight for sore eyes.
Leaving aside the city centre, why are shop fronts today so dull and why are they painted in dreary black and brown and grey?
Shops were much more attractive in those days as the couthy village of Newton Mearns testifies. Thanks for sharing.

Great window too the past. People looked a lot more respectable. And a slower pace of life.
