You know I’ve been watching your content and Jessie’s content for years. I’m aware that you two have a podcast together, I’ve always wanted to check it out but I haven’t been able to due to time issues. But let me say that finally being able to enjoy my two favourite creators at the same time is the new year’s gift I didn’t know I needed. Hopefully we get to see more TH-cam collaborations in the future. Happy new year to you both.
Watching I Saw the TV Glow the first time made me cry. After finishing it, I sat on the floor, rocking back and forth, sobbing. I'm not out to my parents and have been living a double life; out with my friends and then changing into the clothes of my assigned gender at birth before seeing my family. I use different names and honestly, it's exhausting to have to go back to pretending to be something I'm not. The "there is still time" message hit me HARD. It made me think about why I've been choosing not to live as the person I really am, why I've given myself the freedom of self-expression in certain contexts but denied myself in others (family). It's extremely relatable. I just have to say, to anyone who still hasn't seen it, you should watch it. It will resonate with you, whether or not you are part of the trans community.
10 minutes in, already woke my dog, because I was laughing so loud😅 Love you guys, love your channels and the joy and food for thought they bring. Thank you. I will give my personal list later. Vera - next week I will send you a package with proper Riesling from southern Germany where I was born and where I'm living again with my husband and dog. I think I'll need very good entertainment and wine to get through 2025 and the coming years. Luckily they also have tasty alc-free options😂 Have a wonderful Sunday lovely people 💜💙🩵💚💛🧡❤️
I know we're supposed to tease Jessie, but really, if you want to watch X-Men TAS before X-Men '97, go right ahead. I just watched the whole thing 2 years ago, and it's fine. Are there problems? Sure. But it doesn't feel like a slog, and there's good fun to be had if you just go along with it. And remember, your reward is getting to watch X97, and that makes it worth it. So you do you, Jessie!
Same. Both peeps here bring me joy just watching. Two strong peeps that bring andshare sorely needed comfort and joy. Also joy despite pain, fear sorroe type thing
So glad that Jessie mentions Pantheon. Friendly Space Ninja recently gave me the push I needed to check out the show (with one of his recent videos), and I'm so glad I did. It's not a show I've been able to binge, I feel I need to slow it down and pause between episodes, but I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. Looking forward to watching the whole thing. 36:30 Wow, I feel Jessie's frustration in my soul. Far as I know, I'm not autistic, but that is definitely a philosophy of enjoying media so deeply ingrained in my being. It's one reason I can't start reading Spider-Man comics despite wanting to: there's just so much and I never feel like I'm dropping into it at the right time. And this is coming from someone who read the entirety of the X-Men line from Messiah Complex on because I was interested in Hope Summers. And read every single Ultimate comic to get ready for the new Ultimate books, only to find out they were set in an alternate universe so there was no need/point. Similar with 2099, actually. I kind of miss both of the old universes, as flawed as they were. Haven't really thought enough about this to do a proper group of lists (games especially, I'm rather detached from the latest releases, AAA or indie, so my list would be weird or mostly stuff from other years), but I appreciate this video, highlights some things I want to/should check out, and praises some stuff I loved.
In no order - Movies: The Wild Robot - Inside Out 2 - Super/Man The Christopher Reeve Story - Alien Romulus - The Holdovers (Jan 2024 release in the UK.) TV: Constellation - Slow Horses - Shogun - The Penguin - Mr Bates Vs The Post Office
I've been unemployed all year and haven't been able to afford much new media, so my list has quite a bit of barrel scraping. TV Shows: 5. The Boys Season 4 4. Squid Games Season 2 3. Sweet Tooth Season 3 2. Fallout 1. Dead Boy Detectives Games: 5. Silent Hill 2 Remake 4. Nine Sols 3. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown 2. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remaster 1. Still Wakes the Deep Movies: 5. Venom 2 (wasn't able to afford to watch it in cinemas... but it looks fun!) 4. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 3. Deadpool & Wolverine 2. Alien Romulus 1. Dune Part 2
I love you two! It's just so much fun, good lists on shows, video games and movies. Vera I watch the original 90s X-Men cartoon and watched the 97 series so Jessie is thinking like me in that. This was fun listening to you two, hope you both have a great year
According to the SuperGiant developers, Hades II will have a total of three major updates this year, corresponding to the second area/boss, the third area/boss, and the fourth area/boss as well as the 1.0 release, so if we're lucky, we might get a Switch release in early 2026. Somehow having a general timeline makes it even harder to wait. 😅 Gods, I haven't been this hyped about a game since Pokemon Platinum came out when I was a little kid. If Jessie does get to play either Hades or Hades II, I'd love to see a video about it, especially talking about how queer it is. 😄 Anyway, I love Vera's videos and I love Jessie's videos, so getting a collab video is a perfect new year's present, so thank you two very much.
Admittedly I'm nearly 10 years Vera's senior, but her opinion on the original X-Men cartoon are TRUTH. I understand why kids who watched it would remember it fondly, but that has very little to do with actual quality of the show, and that's kind of the point, I guess. The first season of X-Men 97 is fantastic.
Personally that’s how my brain works as well and while I have watched the original X-Men animated show in the past, my memory of it isn’t great. So I can’t bring myself to watch 97 without a rewatch of the original.
It's the biggest reason why I've never gotten into superhero print comics, too. Some of the famous ones have been going for coming up on a century now. Sure there's been reboots, alternate timelines, and author changes. I'm sure there's plenty of places I could jump in at a more recent start and be fine. But I'd feel wrong if I didn't start with the FIRST first ones and go through them all, and that's just. so. much.
Oooh Interview With the Vampire mention! That was my favourite show of 2024 easily, tho I haven't read the books so I don't know all the changes and if they were good or not
As a longtime fan of the books, don't read the books. The shows are better. The books are kinda racist and very homophobic, which I used to accept because there was no much queer literature back then. How are the books homophobiv? Well vampires are very gay and bisexual, but Vampire penises don't work so they are all essentially castrated. Anne Rice made a point of that in every.single.book. As in if you try gay then you can't have sex ever again. This also allowed the story to be very queerbaity because all male vampires are essentially castrated, the "love" they feel is never intended to be actual gay love. How are they racist? Well you start to realize everyone is whiter when they become a vampire and the prettiest (Armand and Lestat) are the whitest. The show really did a good work on keeping the story very queer and removing the homophobic parts.
And making Luois black and Armand Moddle Eastern was the best decision ever. In the book, Louis is a slave owner plantation farmer. Something that he never addressed as something bad.
For me, I just consider Interview with the Vampire to be a reinterpretation of the book with characters based upon the series. That takes the pressure off, and I can relax and enjoy it. Good pick!
i'm with jessie about interview with the vampire, the show is brilliant, I can see some book fans not liking it because it really take a lot of liberties but personally that's where the series gets it right lol it stands on its own in terms of quality, but for a book that is nothing more than trauma dump of the author's grief with one of the most useless protagonists in fantasy i ever seen, the show simply thrives on these weaknesses. and also with this book Anne Rice started the disgusting modern vampire lore of racists romanticization, and the series subverts this precisely by discussing racism, and that is iconic!
These people don't like it simply because of the race swap and it always makes me roll my eyes, they can't see how cool it is to bring the story for the third time from a new perspective. Look, I understand the resistance to changes and thinking it's not for you. now watching it and say that this show is bad? don't piss me off! It's one of the best fantasy series, if not the best, airing right now!
Commenting for the algorithm! A little sad the two series I’ve been fixated on weren’t even mentioned, but also not surprised. (Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss) I’m assuming Jessie hasn’t watched them for whatever reason (fair, she doesn’t have to), and Vera’s comments in her videos weren’t thrilled. But oh man do they have a chokehold on me. The only other series my brain let me watch were Dragon Prince seasons 1-3, which wouldn’t qualify for this list anyways, but while it was fun it didn’t consume my brain. I haven’t seen any of the series on Jessie’s and Vera’s lists though. The only movies I watched in 2024 were Deadpool & Wolverine and Transformers One. Both were fun. D&W is something that if I was with a friend and they put it on, I’d watch again, but wouldn’t seek out. But I agree with Vera on it being a lot of fun. The one iconic cameo was GOLD. (IYKYK I’m not gonna spoil for those who haven’t watched for some reason.) Transformers One I loved (though still didn’t break through the Hellaverse haze in my brain, but Transformers is my longest running franchise special interest and I’d say this is THE best Transformers movie). I’ll definitely be seeking to rewatch it again. Honestly, I think Brian Tyree Henry deserves an award, but this is not the sort of movie that gets actors awards. But he really sold the arc D-16 went on.
For trans actors, does anyone else think that Laverne Cox and her identical twin brother might be the luckiest duo option for pre vs post transition? It is a cis guy basing his behavior on his trans twin and she doesn't have to be something she is not
Apologies? A video version of the podcast is exactly what i was hoping for when I clicked on the thumbnail! It does mean i won't be listening to the podcast this week though :)
My brother really liked the first movie (crush on Timothy), disliked the second one - between the movies he forgot who most people are + I think it's genuinely difficult to follow without reading the book. By the end he only like Zendaya's characters saying she's the only one who feels like a person. I don't necessarily held against the movie - but without knowing books might be hard to understand why people act so weirdly
Being effective with your efforts is important, you absolutely get a pass imo. I also don't listen to podcasts, but i side monitor a lot of conversation or various longform content so like.... >.> I would be a metric to just be that redundant post user :P Hope you're both well

A Riesling? That's a treat. Gewürztraminer is also delicious.
Jessie is all of us when Vera does that voice. Omg
Chalking this up to “things I’m too ace to understand,” but I’m completely Vera in the finding it funny to make my friends blush thing XD
Seriously, I still think about Vera's making consent sexy example in the Neil Gaiman video 😳😳😳
Ok, the "Good girl" was just evil. 🤣🤣🤣
EDIT: 6:03 made me spit out my tea laughing. AND 7:29 😂😂

Goblins is the right word. I made the same mistake not long ago.
Interview With the Vampire was definitely my favourite I’m obsessed with it right now
4:05 😂😂😂 aww Jessie’s bright red!
You're not alone, Jessie, on the completionist thing!
I shall never complain when you two lovely people are on my screen! Happy New Year to you both 🎉

Love this! 🔥 I need to see I Saw the TV Glow.
I've been unemployed all year and haven't been able to afford much new media, so my list has quite a bit of barrel scraping.
TV Shows:
5. The Boys Season 4
4. Squid Games Season 2
3. Sweet Tooth Season 3
2. Fallout
1. Dead Boy Detectives
Games:
5. Silent Hill 2 Remake
4. Nine Sols
3. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
2. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remaster

Movies:
5. Venom 2 (wasn't able to afford to watch it in cinemas... but it looks fun!)
4. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
3. Deadpool & Wolverine
2. Alien Romulus
1. Dune Part 2
Venom 2 *was* fun but it came out in 2021. No shame intended if you were unable to catch Venom 3 yet though.
@@oliverraven Yep, meant to say Venom 3! Saw the first two but looks like I'll have to wait until the third one hits Netflix
Wish you the best for this New Year! Good vibes going your way.

Being unable to watch a sequel without watching the original is an autistic thing? Adhd thing? I relate to Jessie with that.
Call it a general neurodivergent thing that hits a few different areas but not necessarily all people with that specific divergence.

What point do they mention it at 😭
Idk the timestamp, but jessie mentions it as one of her favorite shows of 2024
