It really is a beautiful piece. It matches the atmosphere and tone of the game perfectly. I looked you up to see your work and I see you make ambient tracks like this. It's cool to see you worked on this track. How did they work it into the game? Did you work with mick Gordon? I feel like people attribute this song to him since he is the credited composer.
@@Dovahween Thanks a lot! We (the two other sound designers and I) just decided it would be fun to put little flourishes like this around the space station to make it feel more grounded and fun to explore. When I needed a break from designing scary monsters and computer sounds I made stuff like this and put it around the game - "diagetic" music we call it, music that "exists" in the game's world itself, as opposed to the score/soundtrack. Mick did do most of the soundtrack work along with a handful of tracks from Matt Piersall. We used some of Mick's source material to make ambiences too. He's a real treat to work with. Prey's creative director even has an original song of his in there! (In the Yellow Rose club) We all had a lot of fun collaborating on the music and sound throughout the whole game. Definitely the most creatively free project I've worked on.
This was you? Of all the music in the game, these little speaker/radio songs were the tracks I remember most since they're scattered everywhere throughout the game. If you wouldn't mind my asking, what type of equipment synth-wise and effects-wise did you use for this piece in particular? It sounds like the main pad *might* be a Prophet but it could really be anything, but I'm very interested in knowing.
@@tomoaries Thanks! I don't remember exactly what I used but I remember I had recently bought the Arturia V collection bundle so I was excited to try those out. I bet you're right about the Prophet. Maybe the CS-80 plugin too, and probably Ableton's Operator synth because I use that in everything.

Wow, I'm honestly shocked and mesmerized. Mick managed to create a perfect, pure sci fi ambient piece. A crystallized melody, it brings forth the thoughts of space ships flying through vast cosmic fields. Amazing feeling.
@@LSK2K Hey now, I love Micks work and am still currently on his side since that whole fiasco but Bethesda never released the supposed evidence they threatened to release if things got worse. For all we know, it could be another Beyonetta type scenario where everyone chose a side without cause. For all we know there could be more nuance to the whole story still. Quite frankly, I dont want to know what it is they had, I love Micks work far too much to see him squandered.
Theres something about taking a moment from surviving horrors from space and finding respite as you stare into the vast cosmic ocean as you listen to this song.
Yeah I thought I was the only one who saw this as Prey's reaident evil "save room" theme, it definitely has that forboding feeling while at the same time being relaxing. Thanks for the loop.
It’s ironic as well, because December (the older, other AI operator) says that Morgan’s room isn’t safe to meet. And then the second you try to meet December in the lobby, it gets fried..
I read your whole description. Everything you felt, all the experiences you described... me too. From the moment I first discovered this track in-game, I was captivated. Thank you so much for extending this hauntingly beautiful piece, and superb choice on the background. Can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this video to come around!
Thank you for taking the time to listen, read, and share! I'm just trying to spread the love, that's all ;) Glad you enjoy the song and the game so much!!
The sound of ebbing and flowing waves lets one find comfort in trying times. This unending rhythm powered by nature is something we take for granted, for out in the emptiness, our home seems foreign. Nature itself becomes soothing as it reminds us of our home, far away, and with the thought of never seeing it again forever looming in the backs of our minds, we can at least find solace knowing we experienced these tranquil sounds...one last time.
Played this game for the 1st time this year. It gave me a feeling that only bioshock and batman arkham asylum could.....claustrophobia. this game is a hidden gem.
Thanks for the upload. It's my understanding that the marketing for this game was botched, and the resulting hit in sales means there won't be a sequel. Sad, because this was one of my favorite gaming experiences. I played it as a meathead space marine (no alien skills) and when I realized I'd buffed my abilities enough to blast the Nightmare to bits with a shotgun instead of fleeing in terror, it just felt so great. I replayed the ending several times, sometimes smoking key characters just for fun. Going to play it again as an alien this year.
Hey, I did the same thing and felt the same way, too! I actually completed an Alien playthrough just recently, although I definitely prefer just having human abilities. When I first played, I remembered what January told me about becoming something bad, so I avoided installing typhon mods like the plague.
When I first played this game, I had done a no typhon mods run (after briefly witnessing NPCs (and turrets) shooting my brother in his playthrough), and with all the survival options turned on. It was quite an experience. The next playthrough focusing hard on typhon mods proved quite different, but equally rewarding.
It sounds like the waves stroking the dry sand, shining from the bright sunlight. But when I look at the window, all I see are glowing stars, in an ocean of darkness.
I also love this game. Didn't play it because I was bummed out by Prey 2 I think, and I finally played it a couple of days ago. BEST. GAME.IN.YEARS! This game brought me back into gaming, which had felt so incredible dull for quite a while
I agree with you Channel NES1995, the first time I heart this in Morgan Yu's office I was mesmerized. I just stood there in awe and amazement. It is also so peaceful, and relaxing, after a stressful gameplay. I have been trying to find the name of this song forever, so I tip my hat off to you for this video. Thanks mate.
Thank you for uploading this. I love the security this music brings, I turned on every speaker I ran past lol. Prey is such a god damn underrated masterpiece.
Wow, I didn't know I needed this and I'm so glad I found it :D I always loved the speaker music in the game, it helped me calm down from a heart attack when I ran head first into a nightmare :')
The Vastness of Outer Space hearing this Speaker Ambient Soundtrack is so relaxing like you wanna be an astronaut or cosmonaut like Mikhaila's father was exploring thru the infinity of the Universe and that Interstellar vibes too 🌌🌠🌌
I realize there isn't a longer version. So I'm sad to press the replay button again. It's like a mind game to me. I think yu would feel the same... But the semi sacred geometry of it all makes me believe that everything is going to be okay.
Been awhile and commented before but just wanted to say thank you for this! I’m glad I’m not the only one who listened and got captivated by the speakers! It’s April 2020 and it’s definitely a fitting song for current world affairs!
Thank you for taking the time to read it. I was sick with a variant of the flu when I played it last year, so it kept me occupied and entertained despite the physical misery xD I am positive it will hold a pretty soft spot in my heart for a very long time!
I dont know about you guys but I get a Metroid vibe from this particular song, soon as I heard it I saw the connection. A lot of things about this game remind me of the good ole gamecube era playing Metroid Prime, the going back n fourth trying to solve puzzles, to killing hostile aliens. And thats when I knew, I paid a good 20 bucks for this game :)
Some of the music in Prey, like this for example, reminds me of Space Mountain from Disney World. The experience of it as a kid (not necessarily the roller coaster portion but the queue) is what I think of for space: dark and deep and mysterious and serene.
I loved this game it was soooo underrated i played the speakers as often as i found them but the game mesmerized me more than it scared me. There are flaws in the game but they are few and far between i myself used a lot of bullets during my play through it was fun and it gave me a sense of control unlike in other games i would love to see another one of these games space horror theme and free roam world to where you could goof off while you take a break from the story. I give this sound track a 10/10 i hope you get as much support as possible God bless this music
Didn't like the game, especially compared to Dishonored but this piece of music and the system you mention in your description really sticks with me. I love it
Ty ty! I used to always carry around one into new areas to keep the creepy station BGM from playing :) kinda like a night light but for sound! Wonder if they meant for people to be able to carry them like that? Heard several others on different videos saying same thing ?
I loved the song too much to pass up the opportunity. I recorded it on my Xbox One, and used Adobe Premier Elements to edit and loop it together. I am still hoping that an official version of the song is released; one without the audio "hiccup" each time the song loops.
Sorry for the late reply, but most likely a synth or electronic keyboard. Considering the heavy use of synths in the soundtrack, I’d say the former most likely if not both.
First time when I saw the trailer and the gameplay footage of the game, I instantly fall in love with this game and I got a platinum, I really wish Arkane studio would make a sequel for this Prey Platinum-PSN ID: ZyXEL_35BC

I played the whole way through Prey with ambient music off. It was just me alone in the space station with this playing sometimes on the speakers.
Just why?
That's kind of dumb as the ambient music in this game is amazing and adds even more to the atmosphere and experience of the game
@@TiboArthur it’s just a different way to play the game. Like a “realistic” immersion. Morgan doesn’t hear ambient music.
