The problem with Dennis was his substance abuse not his drumming but that abuse could hamper his playing at times though.. Brian would use studio musicians, at least in a lot of the stuff later on so Carl and Al weren't on some of those recordings either. Sometimes the Beach Boys would be on the road without Brian who would be in the studio working on the latest music. Ringo, at times, just pounded the drums when it was called for but was more versatile than just doing that.
