    VC actually means "vivid color", not "vibrant color". There's a difference between color vibrancy and what kodak meant by "vivid color" in their emulsions. Portra used to be "natural color" and "vivid color", now it's just vision3 w/o the remjet :).

    • @coreywolfenbarger8992
      @coreywolfenbarger8992  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! I actually said vivid color right before that but then second guessed and redid the line and said vibrant haha. I wasn't sure. Thanks for letting me know! :)

    I bought a whole bunch of expired film and some of them are about 30 +yrs past expiry! The low-iso films tend to still work well. But the fast films are very unpredictable...

    PMZ back in the day was pretty high contrast medium saturation. My guess is you have to shoot it at 400 and tell the lab to push 1 stop.

  • @bobsykes
    @bobsykes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, wow! I used to shoot both of those old Portra films (NC and VC) in a Nikon F3, I don't know, maybe 15 years ago. I can't compare directly, but I really prefer how Portra 400 looks the way it does today!

    oldest roll of film I have shot in my life was 43 year old slide film and I actually got a image out of it. Which was insane. Colors actually look really g ood on the film for being 4+ decades expired.

    Yo Corey, that 1000 speed stuff is Ektacolor Pro 1000, I still have the pro pack box that my rolls came in (I shot 5 rolls of it recently). It was quite saturated but I really liked it, wish I had more! I can send you some examples if you like? Let me know, I’m @samtannernz on insta.

    His "rule of thumb" for speed rating expired film is one of hos popular urban legends on YT - largely BS. t's likely to result in overexposure, which can be absorbed with his color negative films. These guys consider themselves artists first, so that is to excuse their near total lack of technical competence.1000 reduced to 400, is not a 2-stop reduction, and it's not a "near 2-stop" reduction, (which would be 250)..

    • @6WeeksTV
      @6WeeksTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I can't find anything online that says to rate expired film any other way. Film loses sensitivity over time so what's the harm? Also his 1000 speed film came out underexposed (he only overexposed by 1 and a third stop...) so I have no idea what you're going on about
