Happy to see that this was preserved somewhere. After working on it, I never kept a copy for myself. I was proud to have worked on "engineering" (filming, editing, sound mixing) the film with Mills Recording and Rotary One.
I have only just found this video and have to say that it is such an important documentation of the founding of Rotary. It was clearly pulled together by the Rotary 1 members sometime in the late 1960'6 or 70's. well done to those Rotarians who saved this. And well done to those who decided to upload it here. I learned so much about those early days with Paul Harris than anywhere else.
This is an outstanding film of some of the early members of Rotary 1. I'm glad efforts were made to save this rare glimpse into Rotary's past and some of the men who help start our great organization.
Been a Rotarian for 9 years, and this is the first time I knew such of video exist. What a precious documentary! We're going to celebrate our 30 years Club Anniversary this Saturday July 15, gonna use this as a video footage during the event. Thank you.
Aqui no Brasil o Rotary ajuda muito o povo. Muito bonito essa consciência social e ajuda dessa ONG. Parabéns. Vou me informar como posso ser voluntária também
Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-sectarian organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 member clubs worldwide, and 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians, have joined. Rotarians usually gather weekly for breakfast, lunch, or dinner to fulfill their first guiding principle to develop friendships as an opportunity for service. "It is the duty of all Rotarians," states their Manual of Procedure, "outside their clubs, to be active as individuals in as many legally constituted groups and organizations as possible to promote, not only in words but through exemplary dedication, awareness of the dignity of all people and the respect of the consequent human rights of the individual." The Rotarian's primary motto is "Service Above Self"; its secondary motto is "One profits most who serves best."
What a most excellent documentary of the very beginnings of Rotary International!
