Awesome follow up! glad you took folks questions regarding the matter. One of my best hobby experiences was doing these 2 interviews with you and the others. I learned a ton and feel I came out with more clarity on my opinion of the situation as it was and as it is now. In our last interview I am glad you spoke to how things would be in the different context of today. As complexity arises the more we try to make classifications etc the more things change and become beholdened to simplicity (hence my base logic take of 1st licensed card from base set regardless of how its distributed). BTW - I do love the STAR design and we must realize that limited budgets meant it would be different than major manufacturers that had deep pockets. Thanks so much for doing this - glad we got to invigorate you 😆

No design ingenuity? How about the color-matching borders for each team? I absolutely love flipping through a binder of Star cards and seeing an entire page of Bulls cards with red borders, then Lakers cards with purple borders, then Celtics cards with green borders, etc.

Agreed. No other products during the '80's color-matched the card borders with team colors. It was one-size fits all design for Topps, Fleer, Donruss, O-Pee-Chee, Score, etc. for their products. And as someone who bought packs of '86 Fleer basketball in 1986, those card designs weren't exactly appealing with the red-white-blue border design....maybe if the product was specific to the former ABA :)
