Notgrass American History is thorough, beautiful, and a great pick! You can draw it out to 2 years and not rush through it 😊

Hi! I’ve been watching all of your singapore math comparisons like a crazy woman. Thank you SO much for doing all of those. It was such a big help. Especially helpful because I have a rising 3rd grader, so I can see what worked and didn’t work for you! I have done Dimensions math for the last 2 years, and was realizing that I don’t think it’s clicking super well for my daughter. I LOVE the Singapore math method and want to keep teaching it, but I didn’t feel like the Dimensions teachers guide helped me teach it very well. My rising 3rd grader is good at math, but struggles a bit with focus, and sometimes struggles to move into the abstract. Through your videos, I decided that Primary 2022 was too much of a departure from the other two main curricula, so decided to rule that one out. Watching your Primary US Edition flip through helped me see how much Primary seems to lead the teacher by the hand. It looks like it would be more open and go than Dimensions. Would you agree with that? With Dimensions, I felt like I had to review the lesson for 15 minutes the night before in order to understand what it was that I was supposed to be teaching and to read thru the games and decide whether we should or could do them.
I’m curious why it seems like in the past school year you went from Dimensions to Primary and then back to Dimensions? It looks like you’ve settled in Dimensions for 4th grade? Could you tell me why? Thanks!!

I am so happy to hear that my Singapore Math videos have been helpful! Like you I have settled on the method of Singapore math. I'm currently reading a book "Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics" by Liping Ma, that helps solidify that decision even more.
I agree that Dimensions requires more previews before the lesson can be done. One of the reasons I plan on doing the video subscription from Dimensions this upcoming year is I don't always have the time that it requires to fully get the lesson ready for the next lesson.
Overall, Dimensions offers more games, books, and activities outside of the workbook material that I didn't feel Primary had. Primary has games and we liked them, but Dimensions offers something "every" lesson.
      I hope this helps!

I absolutely 100% agree with you about level four for the all about reading. My daughter was reading very well after level three, but I feel she learned even more by completing level four.

Not Grass American History looks amazing. We use Masterbooks America's Story and do the mp3 in the car. We also have a binder with a timeline made with card stock and imagines from the book and online. Masterbooks works for us but Not Grass is more thorough.

I am in the same boat. We had a few massive curriculum changes this year and are finally in a good place. So I wasn't concerned too much that i accidently cut this year short by 2 weeks 😬. However, going into our 4th year starting in July, I know it will run so much smoother than this current year.

Yes, I agree. We too will be much better off by the minor set back within this year. Not really even a set back just a refocus. Hope you have a great upcoming year!

Love your videos like this because my daughter is the same age, so it's fun to compare what we are doing 😊 We are focusing on American History for 4th grade too! I chose to use Abekka's 4th grade American History in combination with History Quest's American History. History is SO biased and hard to find what fits your values, so I chose two companies with different perspectives (conservative Christian and secular). I will follow the timeline using what I like from both and leaving out what doesn't fit our family values. At the least, we will just read aloud/discuss the two books. At most, we will do some of the suggested activities and read some of the suggested books to dive into things more.
I LOVE the Tuttle Twins history curriculum but they don't have much available yet. We may end up using them for 5th!

Sounds like you have a good plan! I just recently stumbled onto Learning History Through Literature by common sense press. This might be just what I'm after. It is set up into 7 "units" and you can dive in as deep as you want with all the resources.
Hope you have a great 4th grade!

Very helpful video! I'm looking forward to your choices for 4th grade (besides the ones you mentioned here). I've already started planning and have purchased most of our curriculum for next year (4th grade as well). TGTB handwriting goes all the way up to level 7! We've been using level 3 this year as well and have loved it. I would recommend History Quest United States (Pandia Press) for your US history. We've been using HQ early times and middle ages, and will be using United States next year. I would also like to hear more about your thoughts about using the video classes for Dimensions math.

Thank you for history recommendation, I will check that out. For Dimensions you get the video for that level for 1 year, so of I go that direction I will be waiting until we officially start 4A.

Just with your teaching style and your reluctant writer.. be careful for IEW. It's intense and very public school style. When your daughter gets older look into Jump in Writing for a gentle writing curriculum.
