O General Loustaunau-Lacau For Montmirail you took an oath Under the flame of your ideals Was this song The martyred earth is calling you Wherever the enemy storms Ribs of the valley of Ostel In Trésauvaux For your life that was Resistance We will walk in your footsteps You gave everything for France And France will reward you Your ardor pushed your momentum In front of the rebellious Rif tribes You shine under command Grand Lyautey A stormy sky, the vultures fly away When the knell sounds at the steeples Founding father of Corvignolles You stand up A column of monsters comes forward Twenty-three tanks fall into a primed trap Their Germanic arrogance Is decimated Against the Huns, sickle and hammer Engaged, the first rebel of France You're starting a network soon Here is the Alliance Arrested, locked up, deported At camp Mathausen tortured Despite the steps of the dead You survive In front of the judges who blame you proud, haughty Facing those who dare to throw the stone You are for us all the last Musketeers The earth does not renounce its oaths To serve with the same faith Stay tenacious in Parliament Show the way One evening the feather finally rests The wind takes you to the summits Forever Glory in his hands Rocked you For your life that was Resistance We will walk in your footsteps The promotion under a huge sky On your behalf will serve

It’s quite sad that even in today’s French military, they are still paying homage to the atrocities of colonialism through this song. The Rif tribes of Morocco were defending their homelands against the invaders (Spain and France) and they fought and died bravely and it took fighting them with cowardly methods such as chemical weapons to bring them to their knees. It’s time for the French army to revise such songs.
