$200 for Good Girl is laughable!
In Europe you can get 150ml Good Girl for 119 euros.
@@VSL229for 80€ too
💯
@@VSL229That is $177.86 CAD. So still not much better. But at least with European prices, you don't have to add the taxes in top.
I remember buying it for about $90 when it first came out and even that felt like too much 🤡
I was looking for one fragrance reviewer who can talk about this. Thank you so much for this video!
Robes08 talks about controversial topics like that.
There are few honest reviewer who talk upon same subject. I saw somewhere a number of perfume released in 2024. I’ll try to find it but i remember it was shockin’ surprise.
It's not niche pricing. It's luxury pricing. Niche and expensive/luxury weren't mutually inclusive. We only got to this point because TH-camrs decided niche meant expensive a couple of years ago. Tons of new brands have popped up since and almost all charge a shitload of money because they can - because consumers were brainwashed into thinking that's how it's supposed to be by influencers. Now we're calling Tom Ford and the exclusive lines by Chanel, Dior, Carolina Herrera, Louis Vuitton and so on niche when they're the opposite. They're just super expensive.
Basically. Niche just means they only center around one thing. Pp def put niche on a higher horse . Yes I buy more niche than designer because I want variety. But I have different price range foe niche. Not just a 300 dollar bottle
Yes a lot of people classify privee as niche and by definition, it's not!
@@notimportant123 all influencers do this! It irks me so much. This is literally why niche can get away with ridiculous pricing, because influencers made it the norm.
@@goodfay niche should be priced equally or lower than designer if anything. With designers it's self-evident that half the price is just for the brand. I mean regular designer prices though. Not this insane inflation that's been happening
@@noelleirina5628I disagree, niche is a brand that is doing only perfumes, usually quite high quality, and not necessarily your usual mainstream, boring scents. Why should they be lower price? Do you know how much time and effort is into making something extraordinary/, outside the box perfume, just so somebody later copies it? They often deserve the pricing, they should be more expensive than the designer ones.
Us as consumers need to realize the power that we have. Products only cost what someone is willing to pay for it. Their survival is our money. My issue is industries are just raising prices, just to raise prices for the same exact products. That was the original Carolina Herrera, no? It was around $80 when it came out, now it’s over $200?! How? Why!?.. and Tom Ford can f right on off! I think one industry sees a couple other industries raising prices so they start raising prices too.
I couldn't agree more! 👏
This why I buy high quality impressions and I am very happy 😊
Everything is overpriced, cost of living crisis but Elie Saab Elixir is devine and Armani My Way is great too.
This is the line that gets me….
It’s projection lasts for a couple of hours and then turns into a “skin scent.” If I spray a scent because I love perfume, that means that I want to smell like my perfume, not my skin. Why spend the money if it just ends up smelling like me? It honestly makes me feel manipulated.😂 Like, hey, spray 3x a day to retain the scent and then your bottle gets empty sooner. Think about it.
You’re absolutely right. The market is Saturated. The only way to really fix this is to stop buying. And that’s the hard part.😂
I remember when Chanel was one of the most expensive perfumes at $100 for the big bottle.
These fragrances prices are too high
NO WAY would I pay for perfumes that aren’t even that good to begin with. And the fact they’re watered down to skin scents is a dealbreaker for me. No thanks. Keeping my hard earned dollars!
This is why I got heavy into Middle Eastern brands...excellent quality most of the time at very affordable prices. Plus, discounters like Jomashop are priceless for niche and designer scents at very steep discounts.
Middle eastern fragrances are awesome! I always get mine at fragrancebuy.ca, the prices are so reasonable and the quality is great
@@TheScented Because of the new demand for middle eastern fragrances they are started to climb in price too. What used to cost $20 is now $45.
100% also try La Ree Fragrances, Andromeda Moon Fragrances and Generic Perfumes..wonderful!
Try La Ree, Andromedas Moon and Generic Perfumes. ..better than Lattafa and Paris Corner@cattastroficka196
I totally relate and i totally agree. I'm a tomboy who will wear clothes from Goodwill or Walmart, but my #1 thing is to SMELL GOOD! It's important to me, it helps brighten my day and feel confident, but lately, I've noticed the fragrances are getting more and more expensive and last less as long. Super frustrating! ❤
The notable distinction in perfume concentration between the US and European markets is a source of frustration for me. European perfumes consistently demonstrate superior longevity and depth, whereas US versions of the same fragrances often fall short, lasting mere hours 🤷🏻♀️
I live in Europe and it is the same. Buying same perfumes for years and quality goes down. Especially Chanel - total disaster in longevity.
I heard Is opposite, in Europe now nothing is longlasting
@@Ali_Ali509 bottles and sprayer nozzle are also crappy now from Chanel
Thanks so much for talking about this. Fragrances are so expensive!!!!
My current love was released in 1995. Poême by Lancôme.
It is beautiful. I adore Tresor as well.
@@gi2121and Miracle 🥰
My Mom loves it too.
Thats why dupe companies are rocking it. Nice long lasting ingredients with a fraction of the price.
@optimistic7995 yes!! Andromedas Moon, La Ree, Heist, Barrett, Scentual Obessions and Generic Perfumes, which IMO are better than Lattafa and Paris Corner
I feel your pain! I’m in New Zealand. And boy do we pay $$$ for fragrances. But we are lucky as We have a wonderful online importer of middle eastern/designer/niche fragrances - and they do their best to give discounted prices. The only problem - a lot of the fragrances are a blind buy. I do a lot of research before pulling the trigger on a fragrance.
The prices are crazy!!!! I am in my sample and dupe era
Yeah but niche brands also suck now. They're feeding the machine just as much. Constant launches, low quality, low longevity, new brands popping up everywhere. IMO late 2010s were the best in terms of quality and (at the time) originality for designer and niche.
I agree that a lot of niche fragrances are very disappointing, but there are just as many (if not more) wonderful, unique and underrated niche fragrances. I'm just trying to be useful in an Industry that is my passion, where I see serious gaps in offerings and quality
A lot of the changes we see in fragrances post 2010s is due to revisions to IFRA requirements and many ingredients being restricted. Each year this list gets longer and longer unfortunately 😩
I’m so tired of smelling ambroxan in a lot of frags. Yes I enjoy the longevity but isn’t there any other way to prolong this?
Even the perfume section of department stores smell like an ambroxan bomb!
You're totally right Yana! 2 months ago I paid $150 for a 50ml bottle of Miami Nectar-Ellis Brooklyn at my local Sephora here in Calgary. It was a gift for my wifey so I didn't mind the price tag at the time, but when you think about it , a full bottle would cost $300 which is ridiculous. I paid it because it was a present for her and its not available in any stores other than Sephora :(
your such a good husbandey
Why did you give me total That 70s Show Mila Kunis on a tangent vibes and I’m so here for it! Girl that’s why I buy from FragranceNet or Jomashop. No way in helllll I’d pay over $200 for any designer frag!
Omg I relate to the clothes vs fragrances part so much! Sometimes I feel that I don't have fancy enough clothes to wear with some fragrances that I own 😅
I feel like this all the time 😂
Totally agree! I was just talking to my other collector friend the other day about how I could easily find designer tester bottles from Dior and whatnot for about RM300 - 350 just a year or two ago and now they are going for at least 600? Don’t even talk to me about retail price. How did they double in such a short span of time? Niche pricing for boring designer perfumes needs to stop fr
Strongly agree!! I wear clothes from Shien Temu H&M Zara but most of my perfume are $400+ im addicted to high quality nice perfumes 😅
I'm glad I'm not alone! 😆🙌
I am obsessed with fragrance but I am also poor 😅. So I turn to dupes (there are 2 brands in the european town I live in), mercari-like selling sites, and notably cheap brands like Avon or Zara. You can find VERY good perfumes within these limitations.
I'd like to add that even if I had the money to do it, I would never spend 200$ on a fragrance. It's just ridiculous. All these brands are making huuuuuge profits thanks to marketing and consumer's gullibility.
The upgrades to your online store sound so exciting! I’m with you, I love ordering 10+ samples and going through them, spraying on a test strip and on skin and then taking notes.
A niche brand I would love to try is Atelier Des Ors.
Atelier des Ors is amazing! My favourites are Lune Feline and Pink Me Up. We may introduce them in the future at Savour Faire (it's a niche boutique entirely separate from thescented.ca which is solely a decant shop)
Unfortunately we can't get lots of niche perfumes here and I agree most designer perfumes are too expensive and a lot of them the newer ones smell very similar and aren't long lasting
I know, it’s such a struggle with the price and quality of new releases!
Thats why I buy Arabian fragrances/dupes. Sorry but prices are getting out of control.
Also a phenomenal option! They made amazing affordable fragrances
I'm the same, there's a brilliant dupe house here in Ireland called Valley of Roses, otherwise I buy Middle Eastern fragrances.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one😊
Verset are great dupes too
@karenblanchfield1266 must try them, thanks! La Ree, Heist, Andromedas Moon, Barrett, Kings Gate and Scentual Obessions and Generic Perfumes are fantastic high quality impression houses.
The niche pricing is rubbish too !
Perfume like makeup is not expensive to make.
It is definitely overpriced, considering how much it costs to produce but I think that goes for pretty much all consumer discretionary items, especially luxury
Hi Yana!! I’d love it if you explore L’Horloge de Flore Parfums. They have perfumes centered around the “perfect hour” in which a flower smells its best. I have two of the collection and they’re great! Maybe you’d also enjoy them. ❤
Totally agree, all we get is flanker after flanker.
The only stand out imo, out of recent releases is Hermes Barenia - they actually did something different
@@TheScented I still have to try that one. Xx
I've only liked a few flankers more than the original. It has to be really good before I'll add anything else to my collection. I'm more drawn to perfumes of the 80s and 90s.
80s and 90s fragrances are some of my favourite 🥰 they just don't make em like they used to
Middle eastern perfumes are great alternative also a store Lush sell stunning unique strong perfumes at really good prices! Also I own and enjoy cheap brands like Avon, Jeanne Arthes and a ton of celebrity scents!
please list down ALL your fav lush frags
@@greenrocket9344 bees knees, vanillary, Lord of Misrule, Chelsea morning, breath of God.
I agree! All new fragrances smell sort of the same
I'm loving zara perfum so nice
I agree!!!! Designer prices are CRAZY!!!!!
You can also explore a house I discovered when I visited the south of France named Maison Godet. They might be up your alley! 😊
Go off girl! This makes me think of the way I feel about spin off movies! I refuse to go! I am more of an indie film person ( aka niche fragrance equivalent lol!) so I feel you! I am tired of the same fragrance DNA that they tweak ever so slightly and stick a crazy price tag then mayyyybeee you will find a "sale" that actually should be what the fragrance costs!
Agree with you the prices are insane expensive
TBH I just went on a trip to NYC and was so excited to smell a bunch of niche and designer privee lines, and...I didn't really like anything. Made me want to wear Chanel No.5 and Angel, I'm not kidding. Maybe I'm a simple woman, maybe I'm just not into recent trends. I don't even know how often I crinkled my nose or made a face walking down 5th avenue, smelling some ambroxan or synthetic musk bomb in the crowd.
Don't get me wrong, there are niche perfumes I love (Eau Duelle and Olene from Diptyque, BR540, several Atelier des Ors, many Acqua di Parma), but most of the hyped fragrances I find unbearably screechy (I'm trying to find out what notes I'm reacting too. Might be some synthetic musk or wood notes) or harsh. You couldn't pay me to wear anything Parfums de Marly.
I think all of Tom Ford fragrances are trash, all of them. Yes, I said it😂
I agree. Just bought black orchid and velvet orchid.. Put them up for sale already.
That's amaizing thay you're bringing new brands to Canada. I always have to order from US, as they are not available here. There's a big list of mine I'd love to see samples of (Graham & Pott, Maison Violet, Rubeus milano and many others). Also, discovery sets are a huuuge convenience, as since I can not sniff the perfumes in stores, I have to blind buy some and ignore others mostly based on reviews, which is not always a way to go. So a variety of discovery sets can be helpful! Thanks for your work!
I will check out the brands you mentioned, thank you! I am only familiar with Maison Violet which is great :) I think it is available at Scentrique
I really need a suggestion for summer, would you mind? Im a little unsure, I dont like gourmand, overly fruity or green scents. 😬 Any suggestions?
Love your hot takes, and this one is on target too! Valentino, Armani, and Herrera are the most blatant offenders, IMO.
Can you review Versace Eros pour femme edt? At first is very sweet but throughout the day, it’s so good. It kept catching me off guard
We have the same issue in Cyprus like you guys in Canada. Some stores from abroad, do not even have shipping to Cyprus...no Sephora either
Well said Yana ! Love ordering from you 😊
Have you already tried Valjues? I love „7“ by them!
If they are going to charge niche prices for designer, we might as well buy niche🤷🏻♀️. I like niche better in most cases anyway. Ormonde Jayne is my favorite niche house❤️
you should smell attar al has a turkish house and pernoire a swiss one. they have a lot of beautiful fragrances
Thank you for the recommendations! Pernoire is phenomenal, I have 4 of their fragrances :)
@ May I ask which Pernoire fragrance you have? Also, I wanted to add that Attar Al Has offers two discovery sets but they do not include the latest collection released earlier this year.
I totally relate 💜💜💜💜 that’s why I bought Middle Eastern fragrances 👌 and some are niche quality
I love discovery sets 😍
yes they mostly smell the same generic fruity floral and almost synthetic initially
there's nothing special / interesting considering the spices
yes! discovery sets are great. i need to smell everything!
One hard & fast rule I have is to only have one entry per brand…at a time. It helps slow my purchasing down. For example: if I want something from let’s say, Parfums de Marly, I’ll smell all of them, sample, then finally purchase (from online of course). If something new comes out shortly after that I also like, I have to finish my bottle first.
my favourite Liis fragrance that I tried (funnily enough it wasn't in the discovery set I ordered which was the unseen discovery set) was In This World. I ended up ordering a sample of it separately and it was by far my favourite.
Lately everything has been smelling like mfk 540. I’m so done with that smell. Lollia fragrances are better in my opinion but they need to make them longer lasting.
You're absolutely right. Way too expensive and performance mostly not good enough.
New Hermes Barenia is interesting 😊
Yes, that one stands alone and is actually a really unique and beautiful new release 🥰
My favorite of 2024!
I’d love to see your thoughts on EBK! 😊
Most fragrances nowadays are low quality, simply trash compared to old products
I get ALL my clothes from Shein, and I stay rockin it at 34 about to be 35. One thing that I like to have boujee is my fragrances though. I don’t want dupes. I don’t wear bath and body works. I don’t wear Victoria secret. I will wear body care from the drugstore if it works, like the EOS vanilla cashmere and strawberry dream I mix with my fragrances. I don’t wear cheap stuff, and although their are some cheap fragrances that smell better than the real thing, their few and far in between. I can’t afford paying retail, so I just buy them secondhand just like I sell mine secondhand. I use mecari and it’s the best thing I’ve ever discovered when it comes to fragrances. My point is theirs one nice thing that I’m snobby about and that’s fragrance. Anything else? I’m cheap lol
I know what you mean, I’m reading some of the comments, I know you are an influencer; but, I feel that you have passion for fragrance and just give your thoughts on what you think is beautiful! You make a living off to TH-cam , but we your subscribers tune in to see/hear what’s new and worthy of our hard earned money. Great video
The cost for designer is ridiculous to say the least, but also the fact that most scents have minimal longevity. Because of that I set out to buy mostly niche and more high quality scents that last. I am excited to get my discovery set from House of Marsté for that very reason. Also, no more blind buys for me. I’ve been burned way too many times.
Oh my goodness, House of Marsté is phenomenal! Marlena was kind enough to gift me the collection and they are so well done. Une Nuit Parisienne and surprisingly Essence Santal are my favourite 🥰
I will do a full review soon
@ I look forward to your review. I know anything Marlena creates is always of the utmost quality. Those are the types of perfumes I choose to invest in these days.👃
It would be great to have an MFK discovery set. The MFK site had one, but if you order from Canada, you need to pay more than $20 for shipping. And there is no set that included BCR540 and the extrait together. I know those are very known perfumes, but for those that are new into this, it would be great. Also a Frederic Malle sample set. I know it's not considered niche by many, but it still would be nice to have. Then a sample set from BDK, L'Orchestre Parfum, Nasomatto and Fueguia 1833. I also have not seen a sample set from Byredo without having to pay expensive shipping costs or from Diptyque with fragrances you can choose yourself. They have only a sample kit for the Eau de Toilette and not the Eau de Parfums.
I regretted buying Carolina Herrera good girl.
Absolutely agree with her. Finally, someone talked about it.
Absolutely agree🙌🏻
Yes I agree! A lot of these companies crank out so many perfumes, that are just awful! So many of them smell identical. There is hardly any creativity anymore. I purchased so many samples, and 95% of them just plain stink.
Totally agree ❤
You are my soul sister... I have been saying this for years and now I feel the market is WAY OVERSATURATED!!!! SO many flankers takes away from the real genuineness and Art that the original possesses. It's all about how much money can we make and not creating something unique and special. Things are super hard to find here in the states as well... it costs a FORTUNE to buy retail and even shipping is crazy expensive!
I see that as well " Thanks for the info !
Hi there...agree with you 1000% although the pink PP and green stravaganza from DBIR were awesome...Flowers and Dlamea..yeah a disappointment...it was OK, these prices are why I lean into impressions and refill my OG bottles..😊 have trie La Ree Fragrances? Their juice is clean and smells so fantastic. Happy Holidays! 2:56
Thank you for the video❤. I would like to try a British niche house called Papillon Artisan.
I agree with you, and I think it smell more alcohol than before. There is one perfume I think smell good and it last long without to much alcohol and that is dior intense, but I am a women so I can not wear that 😢
Keiko Mecheri! Please check out this brand! I have two full bottles now from Keiko Mecheri and think you would appreciate them! My favorites are Precious Forest (reminds me a bit of Addict but better) and Peau de Peche (reminds me a bit of Floating)
I will definitely check them out! Thank you for the recommendation 🥰
I can think of a handful of (men's) fragrances from 2020 - now, that will stand the test of time.
Hi! Not relevant to this video, but what do you think of diesel overdose, the purple one. I just put in on after it’s been quite awhile, and I’m loving it. Just wondering.
I do relate, h&m clothes but nice fragrances ❤
I haven’t been interested in a new release for awhile
it honestly took me a long time to figure out you are/were the owner of the scented. There is no about me section and contact us doesn't mention you but the social media linked to you and i kept thinking there has to be an intern missing a letter or dot because someone already has the name thescented.
i think that could be a bit more clear because while your regulars may be in the loop. I just got recommended to the site because i'm local/Toronto. does the site normally have discount codes? i'm hoping to place an order soon-ish
maybe i'm still confused. i just watched a video about savour faire. do you own both?
Yes I am the director of both. You can use code SAVE10 for 10% off at thescented.ca
I don't advertise heavily because I feel it's annoying to constantly pitch it, I just link it in the description and at the end of the videos 🤷♀️
@ thank you for the code and the response. My order comes tomorrow or sometime soon.
As someone who found the website somewhere else off of your channel I think it might be beneficial to have an about page on your website. Avoiding talking about it with your viewers is one thing but it might click sooner if the instagram and TH-cam links to you and the about section says that you’re the owner. It could be very LinkedIn and business or casual about how many cats you have and you hate Toronto traffic or something
It was my first time using your site, I will make sure to support again. Thank you
@ might be repetitive but I want to clarify that I was on Reddit or Facebook or somewhere not related to TH-cam looking and talking about sampling.
Your videos put into context that you CHOOSE the samples and curate what’s available but as an outsider I didn’t know the difference between your site and another. Plus all the social media on your website brought me to you and my first thought was did they miss a . Or _ because my brain thinks I’d see more about the company or if I have a question I’m asking a faceless brand / paid admin not that I’m speaking directly to the head/influencer
I hope that’s more clear 🤷🏾♀️
Either way I’m looking forward to my samples and it’s nice that you’re local/canadian
I smelled so many designer fragrances this time of year in search of a new one and I was mostly disappointed because the ones that I liked on the tester did not smell great on my skin. Very disappointed with Burberry Her Elixir which had a lot of great reviews and it smelled ok on the tester but after the entry note, on my skin just had a super powdery smell that made me nauseous 😢. Luckily I just ordered a set with 5 ml bottles and this was one, so I did not spend money on the full bottle. At the same time I think I might have a strange nose/taste because most of the best sold designer fragrances I do not like and the rare flankers I like are usually discontinued. For example, the only Lancôme La vie est belle I actually liked, and it did not smell as the original at all as far as I am concerned, was L’eclat EDT and that was discontinued
I agree
Have you tried anything from Heretic? I don't see anywhere in Canada to try them.
I miss Malibu Musk aerosol spray from the drug store circa 1992. Was inexpensive and a decent scent. I use Chanel Cristalle Parfum on special occasions, discontinued around 2001. Not readily available. Some fakes on ebay. Some real elsewhere and pricy.
I've been trying in my mind to justify the cost of Gris Dior. I want it REALLY REALLY bad. I went into Von Maur department store the other day and walked up to the Dior counter. Was finally going to buy it. Do you know that the very snotty uppity saleswoman said she's never heard of it...? Lol. So, needless to say, i didn't buy it, and now I'm talking myself back out of it. The price is RIDICULOUS
It is so expensive! I also love Gris Dior and Ambre Nuit!, maybe try and get the small one as a little treasure. I bought the small Vanilla Diorama and wear it sparingly in the winter. Good luck
@marthamartinez4215 thank you..!
Yes, true, agree
Libre is $100 full size on Jomashop but $190 at Ulta
Here in the White Mountains we only have 4 places to get perfumes they do not have what you're talking about have to order it by eBay or Amazon SAD and disappointed.
It's a NEVER ENDING STORY. Be careful wih your Lifes and BUDGETS. ❤📣📢
Hi Yana! Have you tried Sage perfume oils?
I haven't, but I'll definitely check them out! 🥰
@@TheScented it's delicious.Like a gorgeous coconut tobacco fragrance.
i relate so muchhhh with you girllll
what is the best of amouage for stylish men in your opinion?
I haven't tried all of them, but Interlude is phenomenal 👌
Correct!
We, the people have the power to (buy or NOT buy) - always worth remembering.
I am sick to death quite honestly of Jasmine in everything - it's like the cheap/synthetic add-on to almost every scent.
Sadly, us Canadians really suffer in the fragrance department and thank goodness for your site Yana.
I know right?! What's with jasmine being added to absolutely everything? It's bizarre and everything ends up smelling so similar. I guess they found a crowd pleasing scent profile that sells and will keep pumping it out until people get sick of it
I relate!!! ❤️💖✨
Sora dora 100ml EDP do you think it’s the same like extrait?
I Agree girl !!!
I AGREE EVERYTHING SMELLS THE SAME AND THE HIKE IN PRICING IS ALL INTENTIONAL. TOM FORD FOR EXAMPLE USE TO BE GOOD 10 YRS AGO NOW ALL WATERD DOWN AND SMELL CRAPPY.
Dior reducing their bottle sizes of their private line bottles
This kind of inflation has driven me towards Middle Eastern fragrances.
