There's literally not a single bad looking background in this game. Every single one is amazingly done, and so rich in details. This is one of my favorite games from the Neo Geo.
Snk was an unbelievably good company in the 90s in creativity and artistic talent. That was what they were best at, and they dominated the whole 90s in that department. Capcom still had the much "superior tech" (in Iron Man voice).
@Herald of dissonance Since LB as a brand is inviable to be around nowadays, because the market is very different now, and most importantly Snk is very different now, i think Snk should consider evolving SS in a way that some LB features are incorporated. And then add some LB guests. Kinda like Final Fight chars appearing in SF games. Sure, lore wise LB is more distant from SS than FF is distant from SF, but anyways... you gotta do what you gotta do. Truly the LB gameplay is infinitely superior to SS. Then what SS should do is give up many of its core ideas and mix up with some elements of the LB system. This is nothing outrageous in the Snk world, except for mega purists (and i'm not sure if they even exist). Because all other Snk franchises got many considerable reinvention of the gameplay system at some point. Only really SS stayed the same as the first game. So it's not even a strange thing to do in the Snk world. I really want Snk to make someday an ambitious sequel to SS pushing it further from its early 90s archaic base, rather than confine those ideas and so good characters to mere modern remakes of SS2, which is what the recent game is.
@@sacta I've only played SS2 and SS4, so I'm not entirely sure but Samurai Shodown has different gameplay each series. Last Blade has the same gameplay, just slightly different from 1 and 2.

Nice, i didn't expect the jump from early 90's to late 90's Neogeo history. And great that there was attention to have the full violence on (i don't remember if it's On by default but i don't think so). It would be awful to miss that in these games like SS and LB. Thanks for bringing this late 90's gem to the channel.
Last Blade deserved more success back in the day. I think this was SNK's effort to attract more attention and fans. This was their attempt to hook up more people from the west by combining Samurai Showdown core mechanics and Fatal Fury's faster pace gameplay. Little did we know that the strongest characters in the series aren't the main characters =) So much hate on Mukuro and Zangetsu.
Both LB and Motw were totally overshadowed by Kof's success, they were just unlucky to have been released at the peak years of the series. It's so sad for them. And LB is much better than SS to me.
@@carlosaugusto9821 Yeah bro. It was like a fresh start for SNK to redeem their company's glory but unfortunately, Western countries were still pretty much hooked on MVC2 and Street Fighter during that time and Latin countries are heavily invested on KoF. It had the elements of a legit and playable fighting game but most of the players were still loyal to their loved game.
@@Kawaiijapanloverkinda. The Last Blade is taking place at the end of the Tokugawa era, if Washizua and Kojiroh being active memebers of the Shinsengumi is indication of it. Rurouni Kenshin is set like nearly a decade after the Meiji era started, in which the Shinsengumi were no more the current enforcers of the government.
It was very inferior to Capcom's Cps2 and an outdated system for the time of that game, 97. It was just that the devs already had a lot of experience with it by that time, so they made some advanced wizardry to get the job done. They couldnt afford to invest on a whole new system like Capcom did with the Cps3 to run Red Earth, SF3 and Jojo. But the Neogeo was already proving to be an inefficient platform around that time, 96-97. The main responsible for exposing the problems was Kof, and in 2nd place Motw. You could only have either a game big on graphics with small roster (Motw) or a game low on graphics but with huge roster (Kof 02 has 44 chars iirc). Snk seriously needed another system for new games. Just as proven by the wastes that were Kof 03 and SvC Chaos... which would have been so much better in the brand new system that ran Kof Xi and NGBC. Like, it's very likely that SvC Chaos just couldnt be programmed to be a team game due to the Neogeo's limitations. If that happened, maybe it could have been a true rival to CvS2 - which Capcom made in a brand new system and not their own systems from the 90s. Otherwise CvS1-2 and MvC2 would have looked just as severely capped.
@@carlosaugusto9821 wow....I read every word. And it made sense. Thank you. But like I always say, quality over quantity. It's the reason I'll always prefer Virtua Fighter over Tekken.
