I have a similar pony from the Janet Collection. It is 4b/3c texture and I wear it as a fro hawk without slicking my hair down or edges down. I don't cut the pony hair either. I simply pin it into shape. I'm seeing a trichologist for my scalp but they do not advocate slicking down your edges if they are thin. My sister has thin edges and she does not slick them down. I just smooth my edges with leave in conditioner and go about my day. I probably use edge control more on my wig baby hairs rather than my own baby hairs lol! Tension, over manipulation and follicles blocked or irritated or inflamed lead to thinning hair generally unless it is a sign of internal body imbalance(stress, diet defiencies or hormonal) . This is the advice from my trichologist. No shade I love the style.
