As much as this might be useful for spoken word recording, I've found replacing the higher-gain tubes with lower-gain ones not as beneficial for singing voice... The gain parameter on the tubes is really important in this case, if it's too low, you'll have to do more processing on the vocals in your DAW to get the vocal track cut through the mix.
This clip is very useful, thanks a lot!! What would be the best option for replacement of tube from the ones you mention? Can you recommend an online supplier? Thanks again for doing this. ✨🙏🏼
I was thinking of just getting a new mic but maybe I’ll just send the one I have off to Vancouver. Do they draw the comparison to the c12 or is that your own observation?
My only issue with this 460B mic is the self noise of 20db. That is quite noisy and will produce a very noticeable hiss at recording levels. Not sure if the new tube would lower the noise level? By comparison my Rode K2 - has a noise level of 9 db which is basically silent at recording levels. OK - not in the same ballpark price wise, but finding a used Rode tube is worth the wait.
I love sound of original tube. Second one is a little bit clear but it's takes unplesant noise of voice.
Sweet DX7!
very nice job man ! wich parts to buy for C12 convertion?? thanks

They draw that comparison and they base their modifications of the mic on C12 specs
