Unless you look like a Jamaican. They love mrrrrdering their own people.
My parents are Jamaican, but thank god I was born in a civilised country. Where you don’t have to fear the females because they have testosterone issues, like Jamaicans do.
Jamaican music…..is about encouraging killing one another. Imagine that.

Yes, I know. Tourists in Jamaica are completely segregated from the local people. Tourist shop in tourist only shopping complexes, eat in tourist only restaurants and sun bathe on tourist only beaches. American tourists are safer in Jamaica than they are in America.

I was just in Jamaica with my friends and family. We go every year. We never stayed in tourist areas because we were fishing and shrimping in the rivers with the locals. Everyone was kind and looking out for us making sure we were ok and enjoying ourselves. Our driver is like family to us. She and her husband came to stay with us in Texas because we had become so close. Nothing but good people. The tourist locations are also perfectly safe. Of course, you will get the occasional thief. It's nothing near as bad as most American cities. Even Russia is safer than America. Their cost of living and the price of food is something we Americans dream of.

With violence, crime, theft, injuries, sickness, death, etc. come all the services you have grown accustomed to in the U.S. with a very good measure of effectiveness and efficiency. Don’t expect the same in those areas as many tourists have found out in the past especially in places like DR.
A travel advisory is just a warning. Nobody is stopping you.
You don’t have to get insurance at all. Enjoy yourselves.
Just be aware of what happens if things go wrong and you’re on your own dependent on the authorities there. And they will want cash for payment if you don’t have insurance.
Can’t blame the U.S. or expect them to be in hurry to do anything if at all because you have been warned officially which was the whole point.

I think the problem is the Govt has figured out AAs are going on vaca to places where not only the people look like them but are respected and loved. I personally love to island hop. And when I go I spend my US dollar too; is that the problem?

This is universal -- crime in everywhere and not unique to any particular place.

Comparing the crime stats in a country the size of the U.S. to smaller Caribbean nations is inaccurate. Speaking with Black females who own travel agencies, and doing my own research, the U.S. State Department has issued past/current warnings NOT ONLY FOR BLACK NATIONS BUT FOR EUROPEAN/CENTRAL/SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES AS WELL SO IT IS NOT JUST RACE BASED there are actually citizens who are complaining about being victims of crime and have gone to the U.S. Embassy seeking assistance. The State Department has issued these warnings for Spain as well based on AA traveler complaints of crime and racial discrimination. Telling AA to disregard our country's warnings feels more like a subversive PSA allowing Jamaica and the Bahamas to evade accountability for the obvious uptick in crime due to ecoomic strife. I'm all for Black solidarity but not when it's telling our folks to disregard clear warnings based on data . Let's keep it 100%...The average Black person will not go to high crime places in the U.S. but we should ignore the criminality of another nation against us because they are black and we are black? While admitting that there is crime and telling folks to stay on the resorts...duly noted...

Data provided through the Atlanta Police Department’s (APD) Open Data Portal. shows violent crime rates for the last 15 years. After a steady decline in violent crime rates from 2009 to 2018, violent crime actually started to rebound the year before the pandemic began. However, even this with increase, the violent crime rate never exceeded its 2017 level and has since dropped to a new historic low in 2023.
