I bought mine new for $200 when it first came out back in the early 2000's. It is a not a great instrument to be clear... but through the right gear OH MY GOD! I ended buying a second one some 20 plus years later because my buddy did a terrible refretting job and scored my neck at every fret. Plays fine, but I went neck shopping and struck out. I found a used bass with a brand new tagged Dean backpack gigbag for $195 out the door. Snatched it up and then started teaching myself guitar maintenance & modding on my old V and some cheap amazon basses. I threw in an awesome G&L L-1000 pickup, Badass II bridge, new pots, wires, knobs etc... full overhaul. I also added 1MG pots & a Super Badass Treble Bleed and a Pure Tone Full-contact Output Jack. Now? .... this bass fking SCREAMS on its own even through lesser gear. It's not pretty yet as I have not dove into the wood & fret working myself just yet. For now I am leaving the second Vbass untouched for posterity. I recommend the MXR-M80 bass d.i.+, been using them together religiously from day 1. I was running through a 2x15 with an SVT4-PRO... monster sound. I now have a DarkGlass AO900 with modeling on board, so I can get any sound or tone I am after with that. I am new to the game but I do have a channel up for my solo heavy bass project, just not much there yet: Niwim - www.youtube.com/@jahriffn . It's well past time Epiphone brought back their Explorer and Flying V shaped basses.
Are you running this through guitar amp?
