Those type of places are some of our favorites. Anything ghost town is a must visit. We have a lot on our list for sure and can't wait to get back out and see some. Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed!

Such a great place to visit! I visited in April-not long before this was filmed!

It really is something special, isn't it? The reconstruction they're doing is truly spectacular and I hope to revisit to see how things have changed. It certainly has come a long way since the first time we visited many years ago!

That place looks really great during the day, and I just know in my gut at night it's spooky, especially if I was walking around alone. Neat!

We imagine it would be! There's a number of ghost hunting TV shows and other TH-cam videos filmed there at night.

Will Have to Check out Vulture City when I Visit America The Cactus Atlas

It's changed a bit since we've been there from other videos we've seen. Appears you can no longer freely wander in the buildings which is a shame but understandable.

Welcome and thanks so much! Vulture City is such a unique place. They were doing a lot of work when we were there that I think we just have to go back again in the future to see updates!

I too live in Arizona, you should check out Goldfield Ghost Mine town and do a video on Tombstone as well, Both great places. Another is Mt Mcdowell or Redrock off the beeline by Fountain Hills. It's "off limits" but if you can get in its unbelievable. Also Sammy's jeweler's in Fountain Hills does an Amethyst mine helicopter tour up to one of the peaks in 4 peaks and you get to mine your own amethyst. There is no place more diverse in history, beauty and mystery than AZ. Great videos keep posting!

Goldfield in AZ has been on our list for a while, but unfortunately we keep putting it off since it is fairly local to us and can go on any weekend. Since the weather is getting nicer... maybe we'll have to cross if off the list this time around. We do have two videos of sites in Tombstone but nothing on the town as of yet (another we keep meaning to get back to). Didn't know about the helicopter tour though. Might be a touch out of our price range (😅 ... and seems 2021 tours were cancelled) but had no idea that even existed! Pretty fascinating opportunity! Appreciate the suggestions. Thank you! 😄

Got a wonderful tour of the place from John Osborne around 2000. John and his wife Marge were the Vulture's caretakers back then, knew every yard of its geography and year of its history. They were such gracious hosts, even signed a copy of Gene Botts's book The Vulture.
So much history! And not just poor, tragic Henry Wickenburg. The great Jack Swilling, who co-founded Phoenix, knew the place well. (Henry helped fund the Swilling Ditch.) The town's other co-founder, "Lord" Darrell Duppa, spent time there, likely liquored up much of the time.

I think we too may have met John once, long ago. We visited in the very early 2000’s when the buildings were left in a state of arrested decay. Did a self guided tour back then, when you could still visit the old engine room and other spots. One of my favorite places to visit in Arizona. Been wanting to go back and check out some of the work they’ve completed since that last visit.

Hmmm...did you happen to notice that something was flapping behind you while you were playing the piano?

    • @CactusAtlas

Unfortunately I think that's the black skirt on the mannequin which was right behind. Both front and back doors were open and I remember it was breezy off and on that day when I filmed Glenn in there. Would be awesome to think something was caught though! ☺️

I do not see what is so creepy about the dolls. Before my mother passed away, she collected antic dolls. There was over a hundred dolls in her home, never had anyone call it creepy.

    Why would they rebuild it

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Great question. To be honest, we prefer things like this to remain in a state of arrested decay. We were very skeptical about the renovation work being done. We did talk to people involved in the renovation and they want to increase the appeal of Vulture City by renovating so folks would do things like hold wedding ceremonies and family events there, etc... make it more safe, family friendly, as well as to preserve history. On that note, we did think they did a good job of maintaining most of the original structures and cleaning up the property, so they still feel authentic. In fact, buildings that were currently off limits are now accessible. But yeah, we’d be lying if we said that we didn’t miss the old, untouched Vulture City. Thanks for the comment!!

There still is *A* schoolhouse, on BLM land, but you have to bushwhack to find it. It's not the one you have in your still photo, but it has chalkboards on the walls.

Interesting. Just did a little digging around on maps and I think I know where you're referring to. If I'm correct, the building does appear to be on BLM land. Just barely? We had always been told that the schoolhouse (as well as the mill and large engine that was moved) was on the property of the current mine operation. Curious. 🤔 Appreciate your comment. Going to look into this further.

Why would you build a house beside a hanging tree and claimed it to be haunted…😂😂😂😂

Kinda weird, I know. We've been many more times since this visit. On our last, I was told that the cabin served many other purposes as well. Including storage. 😅
