I appreciate the counsel of fellowship for men. We live in St. George. My husband is an avid dirt biker. He has served as bishop here and done a great amount of fellowshipping in the desert on dirt bikes. I called it a biker gang. He calls it moto-ministry. This sport attracts unique individuals and my husband has been able to connect in ways that have helped so many people return to church, in addition to feeling a sense of belonging.
I love this! I thought it might just be our Stake that has such low energy Elders Quorum, but it is apparently common in the church. When looking at my ward's LDS Tools, the contrast of who is serving in RS vs. Elders Qorum is shocking. It is quite literally zero to so many. Our Young men is also low energy. I have a husband, and I have sons. It really concerns me. What your husband did is just great to hear about. That energy needs to spread.
I am so grateful for this episode. As😂I listened to personal experiences and stories about fellowship. Besides my dad I had a great example of someone who fellowshiped me when I was a teenager. It was my Bishop. We were home teaching companions. I had fallen away from activity from the church. I was just beginning to come back. He never focused on my past but would always encourage me to keep pressing forward. Between him and my new friends I decided to serve a mission. Till this day I am truly grateful for my Bishop.
When John spoke of the mist of darkness while holding the rod was so enlightening to me. I thought more than likely they could hear the laughing and loudness of the Great and Spacious building and how easy it would have been to be pulled to all of that. This whole lesson was so marvelous. What a blessing all of you are. The Dyer's were so wonderful!! Thanks so much all of you!
I totally agree with the statement that the Primary Music Leader is the best job in the church. It is a powerful and spirit filled calling. Almost sacred. It's amazing how adults still remember primary songs. I think it has something to do with praising God through song that connects our own spirits to heaven. That praising shows our love for God. And then, of course, there are the children...
It is one of the most important callings! It is an honor and great show of trust to be called to that calling. I have never done it, I don't think I'd be very good at it because I don't know music. Lol. But I have appreciated the music leaders in Primary growing up and as a mom.
This is sooo good. Such a blessing to have people like you who share their time and talents. I’m grateful I found your channel, this episode has helped me see how I could have done better in a conversation I had just last night! Stay blessed guys❤
When I was a young widow I was dating a man in my ward and then we broke up. A counselor in the Bishopric told me he had fasted 3 days praying that I wouldn't marry that man. All these many years later when I think of him doing that it brings tears to my eyes because someone loved me enough to do that for me.
What was it that the counsellor didn't like about this man. Did this man go on to marry n have a family. Did you find someone better suited? I'm very interested. Thanks
Bother Bytheway, I love your metaphor you shared about the mist of darkness, the noise of the great and spacious building. The absent of vision and companionship. If we stick with the rod, the light does guild us, and also the good example of the ones who are in front of us. We aren’t alone when we aren’t alone there.
Yes, yes, yes!!! BEST calling in all of the church .. I've never felt the Spirit so consistently and often than when I was leading the music in Primary!! They testify as they sing of Him with so much power as the chosen generation to meet Him when He comes again!! Love it!! Great lesson, thank you!!
Primary children are amazing thru the music and in the classroom. They have such a strong spirit, and they listen and know the gospel. They teach me also as I teach them. Amazing listen. Thank you all so much ❤️
Hank Smith, we did have the best ward! I grew up in your ward, we were a ward family and it was awesome! Our ward fellowshiped my Dad and my family so well. I know that was part of his conversion, baptism and us being sealed as a family. I will forever be greatful for the people who lived in the St. George 24th ward during those 80's and early 90's. ❤
what brother Dyer said at 32 minutes is spot on. As someone who has to convince himself to stay here every single day when he gets up, I felt that. God has been silent for me for, well, ever, and it's more than I can take somedays.
Great counsel in regards to fellowship Among the men. There is such a great need with the scouting program gone. And men in general don’t fellowship enough together.
As I am listening to this discussion on the news to belong, I feel so sad. I have a daughter who is single, has been in a ward for over a year and feels so alone. I worry about her, but she is active and fulfills a calling in spite of this. I support her as much as I can, but it has made me more aware of those in my own ward who are alone.
Shout out to Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad - the BYU researcher who studies the effects of loneliness. She was also the lead scientific editor on the Surgeon General's advisory on the loneliness epidemic.
Add to the loneliness, the feeling of being invisible. I have talked to many who fell the same way. I had a missionary companion who stood and asked if they could see her because she was there. I also felt that all my talents had been buried with my husband.
Confronting today's challenges with love, connection, and enthusiasm involves applying gospel principles-cultivating Christlike love, strengthening spiritual connections, and approaching difficulties with faith and optimism. By prioritizing our relationship with God, fostering unity within the gospel community, and maintaining a positive perspective grounded in gospel teachings, we can navigate adversities with resilience and a deepened sense of purpose.
Dr.Dyer, in your speaking of mental health, my grandson we raised tells me I need counseling, as he is voicing my own children as mature adults have questions on their upbringing.. are you able to let me know to who I con be helped. I read and study scriptures and have most of my life. Taught early a.m. seminary Rel Soc Sun sch. Classes. As parents we had daily fam prayer, read scriptures together daily, and I thought a stable home. One daughter will not be in contact with as she is in counseling. You know hearts are hurting God Bless you and your wife for my learning from you on these books of John and Jude.
In the True Millennial podcast, the hosts wife shared what she experienced when she deleted social media. She explained that she realized that she was lonely. She realized that her ‘connections’ online were not real. She realized that liking, commenting, or simply viewing posts and images were serving as a mask of her lonliness.
I struggle with disagreement, but more so about the gospel. How do you all overcome this especially with members? I had a time when someone was sitting in on Elders Quarm who asked a question in a very confrontational or attacking manner. And all I could do is find myself trying to share my testimony In defense of the church while feeling personally attacked and very hurt. At the time I felt that's all I could do. However ever since that day I have felt horrible how I reacted towards that person with the inquiry. Unfortunately, my reaction/response wasn't any less Christ like than the acusing questioner. Any feedback would be greatly welcomed!

Oh please find my son! He is in St. George has left the church. His girlfriend has him going to a nondenominational church. He is getting so lost .
I’m in Hurricane! 😊

Hold on. My prayers that you will know you are where you are supposed to be and are are doing what you are supposed to do.
Powerful, poignant and timely story about being primary music leader. Thank you for your insight and the light of your example!

Primary chorister is absolutely the BEST calling in the church!!!

Could someone direct me to a trustworthy source regarding the comments on studies regarding mental health and the gospel?
