More than fanservice it's for thematic importance. Naruto has a lot of lore, but it's always connected to characters, themes, parallels, contrasts, metaphors etc.. There's no lore just for the sake of it and it overall has almost no worldbuilding, because Naruto more than anything is a character drama.

@@styrennyoon798 no. he could use sage mode before the body transfer. the white snake taught him how. but since the bodies constantly rejects him he can't use full sage mode. he can transform otherwise we wouldn't be able to see him turn into a white snake when trying to absorb sasuke. when he fought naruto, he was using sage. for sage mode you don't use you own chakra. you use the nature chakra around you, you absorb it. you don't need a strong body tu use sage at a low level, you need how to control the intake. he constantly absorbs low amounts of nature chakra in order to maintain the host bodies for a few years. that's why he was studying Yugo in the first place.
