      He didn't say he was going to punch anyone, only that he was passing when he saw the fight and intervened, and when he was approaching he got stabbed in the arm, then when he was turning he was stabbed again in the body.

      @@canadianspiritz3844 I've seen that translator several times now, and she -always- changes what people say. His story was that he saw that his nephew was in a fight, and when he intervened to stop the fight, he got stabbed. He wasn't sure how long he was in the hospital, 4 or 5 days (not a week like she said). Also, when she talks to the people, she uses words that sound Cuban, which is not "neutral" Spanish. Just like English, there are some words which are different from country to country, but there are also enough common words which can be used when translating. If not for the judge's kindness, she could get a lot of people in trouble.

      @Mally mal Go to England and ask for "chips". You'll get french fries. That's just one of many, many, many, many, many examples, such as "lift" or "flat". If an Australian refers to you as his/her "mate", don't be alarmed - they're just referring to you as a friend. At least in those examples it's a one-word difference. They're saying that the translator didn't even say the same thing that the defendant was saying. But hey, thanks for embarrassing our country with your ignorance, fellow American.

    • @krisavi
      @krisavi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@-Gorby- Also you can add to this list things like truck and lorry. By definition it seems that truck in Us should mean the semi-trailer truck, but for some reason people even use it for bigger car, which is not a truck in UK sense. In UK lorry is the name used for motor vehicle meant for transporting goods. In EU I have not heard of tractor used for the cap portion of the trucks or lorries, but in US it seems to be the case. There are more of those kinds of words where US and UK english does not have exact same meaning for words. Jumper or pullover vs sweater, jacket potato vs baked potato and many more.

      @@Gamerdude753 The way he describes it, he was slashed across the back of his arm AND stabbed (the latter of which he showed as proof). Stab wounds tend to have a higher chance of scarring vs lacerations due to the fact that stab wounds injure significantly more tissue so that part of his story makes sense. He couldn't tell who slashed and stabbed him because it was night time (it sounds like he said "era noche", which is "it was night"). He also mentions that he wasn't able to see who stabbed him because when he went to defend his nephew,he got sliced and before he could do anything else, was then stabbed by someone ELSE who was behind him (which fits with her translation that there were several people involved that assaulted him). The story as he ACTUALLY told it makes it seem as follows:
      It was night time (era noche) and he saw some people giving his nephew (which is what Sobrino means) a hard time. He tried to help him but was immediately swung at by a knife (which he blocked his arm) and someone then stabbed him from behind (which lines up with his little demonstration). It was night time and he seemed to pass out for a few days and woke up 4-6 days later, in the hospital. Because of all of that, he can't remember who attacked him. It seems perfectly reasonable and he didn't appear to be holding anything back. The incorrect translation and omissions from the "translator" made Caprio suspect the man of holding information back which is exactly why you don't want bad translators to be working in courts.

    I'm not a native spanish speaker, but I'm brazilian, and we speak portuguese, and we have spanish classes, and I gotta tell you, the translator acts more like she's translating a talk between friends, "rounding" things up, and not saying everything the person said, which can make cases like this difficult.
    And I don't know if the guy's lying or not, but I've been in fights (not as serious as this one, with knives and all of this stuff), and he's talking the truth that he can't remember who did what, specially if he wasn't with close acquaintances or friends. Sum that with 4~5 (maybe even more, as he said), in the hospital, yeah, I believe him.

      Yep. He'll always be lenient if he can. He doesn't want to punish people unless they show either no self-awareness, contritution, or try to lie to him.
      You're right- he's showing them that they can trust the courts, at least for minor things, and he's teaching the valuable lesson that everybody messes up, but it's how you respond to that mess-up that shows your character, and that character is more important than excuses.

    He said the entire history, but it was very difficult for the interpreter to translate everything because he was talking very fast. I do believe him, anyone who understand spanish would do.

    Volunteer translator or not, paid or otherwise, that is court and should do her work no matter what. Poor man was explaining what happened clearly. Lady, of all judges you did the sloppy translation for Judge Carpio. I think this lady is judging the poor hombre instead of being impartial. Porque?!

    • @DadouEnDoux

      I think based on the explanation, m caprio just doesnt want to know if its true, and make a trial just for 1 ticket, so he late it go, and give him the brake to simply the sentence

      What he doesn't believe is that the guy was a bystander trying to break up the fight. In a word, he thinks the guy's a gang member. And judging by the way he carries himself I'm inclined to agree. The man walks like a fighter.

    • @zegasi1274
      @zegasi1274 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      he was stabbed 3 times so 4 to 5 days as he said must be true since he's lost a lot of blood I think, and the judge didn't believe the fight part, not the hospitalization one, he thought that things went differently before he's been stabbed.

    I think, caprio was suspicious about something else, but you guys are saying the translator didn"t do good but when someone re-translated here the entire story it seemed the translator told the right things exept thst he stayed in the hospital for 4-5 insted of a week....He was intervened to stop the fight and that's exactly what she said
