    It’s interesting to see how you told the possible story of how G-Man set everything in place for Alyx to discover him, though it can be implied that he is technically still up in The Vault. Shows just how powerful he could be, though that could only just be the tip of the iceberg!
    Your S2FM skills are great as well and I really like the lighting and movement. The choice of music and sounds used are really good too.

    the way i view how things went down from the G-man's perspective:
    (for reference, cause time travel is weird depending on what versions you go with, im assuming half-life has only the stable time loop/bootstrap paradox style time travel, where there's only one timeline with no alternate branching timelines or butterfly effect rewriting everything after a change. every bit of time travel that happens in the future has already happened in the past before the people in the future even decided to head back in time. the past is already "changed" before the person decides to change it. predestination paradox, etc. anyways...)
    half-life 1 and 2 go all according to his plans, but then the vortigaunts mess up his plan by saving Alyx during ep1's opening, and releasing gordon from the G-man, putting him back in city 17 and setting off the events of the episodes. he seems somewhat upset/annoyed during ep1's opening, but seems more calm and back in control by the time of his appearances in ep2. i like to imagine that between these points he's already done various pieces of set up to get Alyx hired, such as saving her from Black Mesa, setting up little "nudges" like we see here so Alyx in the past will make it to the vault, and then returns to the "present" in half-life 2 episode 2 to ensure Gordon gets Alyx safely to white forest. then the ending of episode 2 happens as we originally saw it, and thats when the G-man steps back in time and waits in place for the combine to capture and contain him in the vault, setting HL:As events in motion. he sits and waits for alyx to show up, fully knowing she'll make it to the vault with no issue, due to him already making sure she does, and once he's freed he shows her the events he already just set into motion where Eli dies, but then he fully physically rewinds the events and lets her save her father. as repayment, she is now hired. he puts past alyx back in the past with no memory of their encounter in the vault, so that the rest of the timeline plays out as it already will, and he takes the "present" Alyx from ep2s ending to who knows where to do who knows what.
    leaving gordon, Eli, and the audience in the present day of just after hl2:ep2, very confused.

    • @zatchbellgaming3433
      @zatchbellgaming3433 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mattsquared87 its kinda causality he cant necessarily free himself as that would be a paradox but a future version of him potential freed by a worse for wear alyx architecting a better plan to have a more healthy and useful alyx makes sense as he doesnt free himself by just nudging things slightly to create a better outcome. The word nudges really makes sense when you think about it GMan cant alter the entirety of time as he sees fit but only making nudges to make minor alterations that can still lead to a relatively similar timeline

  • @masterzoroark6664
    @masterzoroark6664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If it was true- it would meant that G-Man put the whole plot in a self fulfiling loop.
    Once he gets "freed" by Alyx he goes into all the locations and leaves the info about the vault in what is (for mortals) past so it always leads to him through the least resistance and with 100% success rate

    Creepy as all heck and very well done. The way the G-Man is portrayed in HL:A is a change from earlier in the series. While he could teleport around, what happens is a result of manipulation and planning. He actually takes very little direct action and even then it's mostly small things. We only hear about larger actions taking place such the getting a large crystal from Xen. In HL:A he comes off as being a lot more powerful and able to play games with time itself. In a strange way he became similar to a pair of characters that might have taken some inspiration from him, the Lutece Twins from BioShock Infinite. (Be hilarious to see how they would screw with the G-Man. And there wouldn't be anything he could do about it.) sm

    this is incredible, it really highlights that speech at the end of half life alyx. everything that happens is just part of some grand plan by his employers. the resonance cascade, the combine invasion of earth, the events of every half life game is part of a meticulous premeditated plan for which we know not the motive or outcome. and the animation paired with the soundtrack is so unnerving and powerfull. i have no idea how you dont have more views, this is awesome

    With all the things that happened in HL:A I strongly believe in the theory about G-man being a vortigaunt controlling a human body as a presence camera-puppet. Why a vortigaunt? Because of his own appearance.
    - Vortigaunts change their colors when using their vortessence, so G-man Did when making his speech in HL:A (As seen on the line of "The fate of our worlds is _Inflexible_") Also seen in the beginning of HL2 he has some grey / opposite scales of colors.
    - Vortigaunts may be so powerful that only them are able to restrain themselves from using their powers to their will, that could be the reason why they are the only ones able to detain the G-man.
    - Vortigaunts powers are seen to be a green-like wave/myst energy... So was the entire chamber of G-man's vault in HL:A, now, you would say it was because the combine was using vorts powers already, BUT, when we enter in that vault, all the vorts powersource should be gone since the vault collapsed. In that moment when we enter to that altered reality place with that annex of apartments we always see that green myst. I strongly believe that myst are from G-man as he is the one who made that annex to look like that way. Meaning that even trapped in that little cell, G-man is able to still manipulate his surrounding reality. (And to clarify, we saw earlier with the encounter of the brain injured vortigaunt the same action of manipulating the gravity and reality with that green energy being present)
    - There's a dead advisor near the last chamber of the G-man's vault, confirming once again that G-man still has a huge power being trapped and that he's NOT related to those grubs, nor the combine, so those who believe G-man was a hatched advisor may be totally wrong as G-man is not in any way allied to them. As even the combine doesn't know who the heck is he, they only know he's from Black Mesa, fact which leads to other theory where Black Mesa had direct contact with the true g-man (The vortigaunt) when studying xen.

    It just hit me, we don't have to question where alyx goes after hl:a because technically she goes nowhere. We know gman can manipulate time, and we know from events in hl2 ep1 and 2, that he has some interest in alyx, and has a way to manipulate her into saying things in a hypnotized state. Chances are, gman took her for only a short while, placed her back down with no memory of the incidents, probably a little while before gordon arrives, putting her in the right place to meet him. This moment he's trapped in the prison, might as well be the time we see gman be 'nullified' by the vortigaunts. At first losing all contact (being stuck in the prison) but gaining some power beyond it as some vorts are released, before he gains his freedom once more from the vorts as alyx releases him in the past. Since gman seems to be a multi-temporal being, much like the vorts, who we know mention time not mattering to them, it would make sense that this could functionally be how it worked for them.
    Most likely when Eli is killed by them, alyx then, once more utilizes the upgraded gravity gloves she used on the way to save gman(or simply power gman granted her), to shift things. What we see in hl:a at the end, is most likely an event from the past, that was done in the future (again, time doesn't have a proper functioning with them). then once alyx saves her dad in this event, he takes her, leading to the extra scene seen in hl:a where eli states "he took her". The statement by eli makes it clear alyx HAD to have been there up until that point.
    (all speculation ofcourse)
    There's no mention of alyx going missing for a long period of time in hl2 or beyond, but this can be explained through the russel event. Russel makes it clear that he is losing contact with alyx as she enters the ship. This would explain it. if she entered it, it crashed, and nobody had contact with her for, say, a month. It wouldn't be too much of a surprise (more of a relief) when they regained contact with her. They might ask where she's been, but her not remembering would be seen as plausible enough, since short-term amnesia of events can occur after traumatic events, and i'd say being abducted aboard a combine prison complex would be considered pretty traumatic.
    Gman being captured didn't make sense in alyx within it's own context, because the implication is that a prison needed to be built, and why would gman stay in one place for it. Thing is, if he was captured in the future, and thrown in the prison in the past from that future, it would explain it. The combine and vortigaunts wouldn't be working together in this case, more like the combine were told a prison would be needed, and used the vortigaunts to power it, then, in the future, the vortigaunts, having knowledge that the prison was there, and powered, would simply need to lock gman in it. Securing him temporarily.
    His whispering in alyx's ear is then explained, as he isn't simply using some power of suggestion, but actual hypnosis over her brought on during the time he had her detained for the 'hiring process'. This would explain why she so coldly says it to eli, but then doesn't quite understand why she said it. The ending to hl2:ep2 would easily be retconned into place well enough, by having the power that alyx uses be so immense it throws gordon around in the process (note as well when it starts up in hl:a gordon acts as though he was knocked unconscious or something similar).
    This would neatly fit everything that happened in hl:a into the rest of the games, without any sort of lore breaks, and making sense over the series.

      This video builds on the idea that the whole story of the game was really one big test for alyx, created by the G-man to see if she was fit to be employed.

    This convinced me more than ever that the G-Man is the developers. He is Valve. Or rather, Valve are his "employers". He sets up the mechanics and objects the player will use. He sets the player on their mission, while we all know G-Man is powerful enough to just kill Breen and remove the Combine himself if he wanted to. He doesn't want to. A story requires conflict - it needs a villain, it needs a hero and it needs a mission, and obstables to overcome. He provides there. Remember, G-Man enabled the Black Mesa incident. There wouldn't be a game if that didn't happen. He enabled the Combine to take over, then sets us on our paths to fix it. The reason he doesn't just snap his fingers and disappear the Combine off Earth (at Alyx' request) is simple: there needs to be a Half-Life 2. That's Gordon's story.
