    Vintage flexes are fun - wish they will still build nibs like that.

    • @ericpmoss
      @ericpmoss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just don't get why they "can't". The metal formulas either still exist or can be reverse-engineered, and companies exist that can make ingots with exact mixes of metals. Machines exist to measure nibs to the micron, and wire EDM machines to make forging dies to the same precision. If money is the issue, I argue that companies make zillion $ pens so surely they can make zillion-and-50 dollar pens.

    Lovely writing sample wonderful pen. I hope you grow to love it. I’ve got the smaller Omas 361, where the nib rotates from hard fine to Flexi. A little like the Pilot Justus but with only 2 positions. The flex option is fantastic a brilliant flex nib. . I’m almost certainly buying an Omas Stenographie left foot oblique flex pen on Sunday.from a friend. I only have 3 Italian pens all wonderful and maybe one more. Great choice Doodle Bud, BTW the Santini Italia is fantastic. Great video, catch ya next time D

    I was only 50 seconds in when I just had to go the tenpen web site to see if they have an Omas Emotica. I have an Emotica in black that I picked up sometime after the pen debuted. I never see Emoticas online, or in reviews. I had no idea it would be such a rare pen to see in the wild. I love the medium Omas nib in titanium. It has lots of bounce and is considered semi-flexible.
    I really like the pen you picked. I think I will always have a love of Omas as it seemed like they were on the pinnacle of Italian design. 😄🖖
    Came back to talk about materials. As you know, our modern plastics, called thermoplastics, are melted and injected into molds. Hollows are made with a male / female mold set with a space in between representing the part.
    With celluloid, it is made from wood pulp and some chemistry. The raw celluloid is molded into flat sheets and rolled into shape. Solvents in the mix both adhere the ends, or scarf joint, and makes the tube continuous. Sheets can be cut into strips, then adhered together with a soft form of celluloid in a contrasting color to make the Arco style of pen body.
    The interesting thing about celluloid is its history in the film industry of the past. Celluloid is a meta-stable material and will easily catch fire and burn hot. Lots of film reels turned into flammable goo before more stable formulations were concocted. The process of making new celluloid is still dangerous, but is rigorously tracked by modern lab safety standards, so accidents are rare. Awesome food for thought here. 👍

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would be a little reluctant to give my thoughts on it since I dont know much about the old or new when it comes to manufacturing processes. I do have some thoughts but I think an expert in the area would be much better to give input. I'm thinking of doing a video with a nib meister at some point where that would be a good thing to bring up with someone who really knows nibs!

    Congrats on your OMAS pen it is really quite a writer, there seems to be magic involved in those vintage pens that some how we can not get in modern pens... How about unraveling some of the secrets? There is an analytical chemistry technique called XRF which is non destructive which can tell us the exact type of alloy (down to metal composition and percentage) it would be interesting to perform an analysis if possible

    • @Doodlebud

    A lovely pen; pity about the price. All the same, it's the right size and expertly made. But that nib--Oh, my! What wonderful snap, hard to think of a comparable nib anywhere, any time. A lovely find, and I hope it gives you much pleasure in years to come. Cheerio from Kangaroo Flat, Bruce. (Kangaroo Flat is so-called because of the road kill problem.)

    • @Doodlebud

    Very beautiful pen and wonderful writing samples. I don't have a vintage pen yet, but I'm hoping the Good Blue R615 is close enough for me. (I know it's brand new, but it has a vintage look when capped and a flex nib.)

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The R615 is a great pen, my favorite is the untipped nib which gives great line variation. But there's still nothing better than these old vintage pens with a flex nib. They are so natural to write with and tuned just right. Similar to old mechanical equipment/machinery which was designed wonderfully and just never fails.

    The moment I saw the title I knew exactly where you got the pen from. I have bought a couple of OMAS', OMASes????? from her. Check her blog, as there must be some information about the Lucens.
    I'm a bit surprized that you might not keep the pen. An OMAS should be in every pen collection if one can afford it. I, as many, many others really mourn the loss of OMAS.
    If you have any questions on the ASC Triangolo, I purchased it last year. I just had to get a 360 (though not an exact 360) in arco verde, rational be damned.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pen works well just not sure if I'm crazy about it yet, time will tell. I've seen the ASC triangolo but I think if I really want a 360, I'll have to save up for a LONG time & get the real deal. I don't like how the rounded the section on THE ASC version

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the rounded section, though is tapers to a rounded triangle as you move up the section. So it goes from a circle to a triangle which is quite interesting. The 360 is very comfortable, unlike the Safari which I despise. I love the 360, but I don't think they made it in ArcoVerde, so like I wrote rational be damned. The Triangolo is a larger pen than the 360 Vintage though, and heavier since it has the brass compression filling system.
      If you're into flex it'll be hard to find one better than that, unless you find a vintage Waterman.

    Are there more reliable bladders than others?
    I'm not really asking about clear plastic ones versus black rubber ones.
