I have replaced so many of those heat exchangers threw the years on that style of unit after the first one there easy..no drip leg with a change in direction or no step down regulator on the gas line is that code we’re u live brother…most of the time they will smoke like crazy with that oily reduce on it..
Thanks for your videos Curtis and very nice job! I wish we had more residential outdoor package units up here in Mass!! I'm jealous! I noticed your meter was in millivolt dc when reading flame current. I didn't even realize you'd get a reading that way, I was taught to read in uaDC (Microamps) I wasn't even aware you'd get reading that way, which is why I'm addicted to watching other fellow tradesmen do their thing. Keep up the great content brother!
So you had to go through all of that because of the unit no being installed level? Or do they just rust out regardless? The video says you did it in 47 minutes, reality is what 2 hours give of take? When the insulation peels off is there an adhesive that works to put it back? Thanks for videoing these for us!! Extra scratches for Riley please.
With Rheem this was a known issue on older units, their fix also creates a ton of rust but supposedly only on non critical components, we will see how it goes.
I would imagine. The reason your flame sensor wasn't holding. Was because you probably had air in your gas line. Just needed to cycle a few times,to bleed it thru. No biggie...
did you ever see the part number I sent you about that lower plate it’s on line it was a different customer but same heat exchanger really hard to find but it’s there in the other video comments great. video
Nice how they put the whip right in front of the panel… that W coil is in pretty rough shape too. Would it be cheaper to replace to entire unit? Gotta love those Rheemjobs… 🤣
my first year I worked for Sears. I did about 6 of them in first 3 weeks of cold. I didn't care for the Smell when you first turned them on.. Had one Customer that would not open her windows to allow Smell to go out.. I told her it would not be Good for her. About 5 minutes later.. her windows were coming open...LOL
Im glad for you business wise and your work is well done, but if that were mine id have spent extra and replaced the entire unit, too much rust everywhere for me to be comfortable. Its good for Curtis business wise though 👍
It seems like a lot of work and a big expense for the customer. At this point why not just offer a new unit since it's so deteriorated? I'm just thinking if the heat exchanger is like that, other components would need replacement as well.
If this is the same one thats not level. Too bad with all of that work to get the rusted stuff out of there and the owner didn't request the unit be "Leveled" to prevent this improper install from doing the same thing again. He should at least asked about it and then had it leveled and remove all of that growth around the base perimeter which also harbor bugs and moisture.
Forgive the strings in the camera. I take that hoodie off halfway through.
NO need to Apologize, Curtis. 👍🙏
I thought you were running dreadlocks
Curtis earns his angel wings on jobs like this. I know that lady is exceedingly grateful that you got her heat going.
Man that was a lot of work. A fun job redoing that old Reem, I just hope it was worth it. I bet you gave him a good price. You are the man. Great job!
Thanks
Those strings are fine. Just sharing to us is very important
Man, you really rebuilt that unit 😳 the customer will be good for at least another 10 years .😊
I hope so
Well Curtis that sure was a expensive rebuild, it may have been better for the customer to install a complete new system 🤔 Au
I noticed you’re wearing a heavy sweatshirt did the temperature dip below 65°F 😂
😂
Good Lord, they should of bought a new one. with the amount of work you put into replacing parts for this thing.
Buy a new one!! Between labor and materials

Still don't know why package units have a/c coil before the heat exchanger? 😂 rust is inevitable
Very nice pay day. Well done
Another nice job 👍👍👍
When you yank out all those wires how on earth do you know where they all go when putting this system back together?
I love the grinder I have a corded dewalt one I love it !!!!
She kept shutting off due to air in the gas line. Once you bleed the air and had straight gas she will stay on!!!
Curtis you do awesome work! Man I miss the Ga humidity lol! It’s a lot different in Oklahoma! Keep up the good work bud!
Thanks! Will do!
That's a ton of work for an old unit ! But your very patient and you do good work 😇😇😇
Great job Curtis what’s the difference in price between new unit and repair? Hopefully the compressor won’t go out next summer.
I was thinking the same thing. I bet he gave him a good deal.
That was a 1/3 of the cost of a new system. Or close to it.

I have to replace a heat exchanger in a Goodman furnace in a crawl space sometime this week. Please pray for me 😣
Nobody’s listening to my prayers. You’re on your own.

It was about 2.5 hours. This one was level

A lot of work 💪🏽💪🏽
I just replaced a heat exchanger on a carrier furnace in a crawl space. That was fun

Curtis on the job
Keep up the good work bud...😊
Great job 👍 it always amazes me that they can still run with that much wrong. That was a lot of work, but it looked great when you finished .
Great job Curtis Awesome video man keep up the hard work!
Thanks
Hey, you can $4k before I get out of bed 😂.
Wouldn't a replacement of the complete unit have been more cost sffective? And why?
Gad that's a lot of corrosion. Thanks.
Curtis you need to update your pipe wrenches to Aluminum.
why?
30:47 Should give Pepsi Zero Sugar a shot.
What was wrong with the flame sensor? If you don't mind me asking
Great content
did you ever see the part number I sent you about that lower plate it’s on line it was a different customer but same heat exchanger really hard to find but it’s there in the other video comments great. video
I’m sorry but no.
well i find it again and post it here for you
best of luck

Question is it possible to change a heat exchanger off a regular split system?
If your talking about in a furnace then yes it is. However, it will be the biggest pain in the butt for you as a tech
@@Killerbuckets23 I gather that is because they are in a closet and you can only get to 1 side?
Yes.
I condemned one like that last week. I think it may have been older than this one.
Great job Curtis job well done

Great job Curtis, I know the customer was thoroughly happy with the results, Your better at rebuilds than service and trouble shooting.
But I loved doing that
Isnt this kind of like giving a 70 year old a new heart or something vital?
Is this the same one with the bad pitch?
No
It sure looks like that one doesn't it.

Great Belch after that swig of pepsi
And now you own it 😂😂😂😂
It would have been much easier on you to install a new unit.
👍👍😊😊

On a union!!
Lovely 🤣
It always amazes me how some commenters try to one up you on every video.
That's funny my first language is Spanish
A veces sueño en español
thats why a person should use NEVER CEASE !!!
Just starting the video . Lose the drawstrings on your hoodies . Nothing but bad can happen with those doing HVAC too many moving things in our trade
I know, right
I hate when they use those gas packs in a residential building smh
La inquilina lol where did you learn your Spanish
Forget all that.
Why didn't you clean out the leaves by the compressor. The small details makes me want to use you again.
