    Very interesting interview of a musician who was a part of SD Burman team. His interview clarifies some of the myth related to songs composed by son Pancham for father SDB. This once again proves that online/internet news are not dependable.

      Nirmalkumar ji, I have interviewed many more musicians including arrangers like Manohari Singh who worked with both father SDB and son RDB, all of them have said the same thing. It is actually other way around, father had a vast and rich repertoire of tunes from which son has copied freely as 'baap ka maal'.

      He was a faceted genius, who had full control of which instruments to use when, who got the best out of his lyric writers, expert in balancing in the recording room, suggested to directors how to picturise his songs, chose the right singer to convey the emotions in his songs, won't record a song until the singer met his requirement, and many more aspects.

      +deepak malik There are many myths on the NET, spread by by biased fans who plant stories without any proof or source. By these authentic videos, when one listens to the great musicians who were part of the team, such myths are being broken.
      One such myth was that SDB did not compose 'Sar jo tera chakraye', which was completely incorrect. Kersi Lord, a living legend who played in Pyaasa, tells us about the Pyaasa songs including 'Sar jo tera chakraye' having been composed by none than Dada.
      Even Anand-Milind, whose joint interview has been uploaded by me earlier, have said the same thing, that they can easily connect to Dada's style of rhythm and compositions.
      Abrar Alvi, who was the writer of Pyaasa, and Guru Dutt's right hand man for 10 years, too has given in detail how the song was created by SD Burman, in a book on Guru Dutt titled, 'Ten Year with Guru Dutt - Abrar Alvi's Journey'.

    Nice interview. But you could have asked him whether the tune of the song 'Sar jo tera chakraye' was given by / or taken from R.D.Burman because Asha Bhosle says like that as also in Khagesh Dev Burman's book on R.D.Burman it is mentioned like that.

    • @lalwanimoti
      @lalwanimoti  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @srinivasan Channiga There was no need to ask because both RD and Khagesh were not there. I have better and authentic information information from those who were involved with the making of Pyaasa (1957).
      1. Abrar Alvi Guru Dutt's right hand man:
      Guru Dutt chanced to see a maalishwala (masseur). The checked ‘lungi’ (loose garment tied around waist), the jaunty cap, and banian, the paraphernalia of glass bottles of oil . . all of it seemed so right for the characterization. And so, the role came to life.
      As did the song ‘Sar jo tera chakraaye’. Guru Dutt had picked up a bunch of 78 rpm records of English songs during his visit to England. There was one tune he liked a lot, and he decided to graft it on to Pyaasa. It was from the film Harry Black and the Tiger, which, though Guru Dutt did not know it then, would be released later in India. S. D. Burman, who was composing the music for the film, was asked to copy the song note for note. Of course, Dada Burman was very upset by the instruction. He came to me and said, “What is this that Guru is asking of me, public mujhe marega. Please explain to him, he listens to you, let me put in a little of my own tune into the song . . . change it a bit . . .’
      But Guru was adamant- the tune would have to be copied hundred percent in the mukhda at least. ‘Let him do what he wants in the antara,’ he decreed and Burman Dada had to be content with that.
      However, the music director waved his baton effectively enough to blend the tune with his own melody in such a manner that no one really noticed the surgery, and the song remains a hit even today. ‘In fact, later, when the producer of Harry Black and the Tiger visited India, he heard the song and not only failed to recognize the tune, but commended Dada on it’, Abrar laughs.
      (Source: ‘Ten Years with Guru Dutt - Abrar Alvi’s Journey’ an authorized biography by Sathya Saran, Pages 71 and 72)
      2. Please watch this interview. In fact you have seen it earlier and commented twice. Devi Dutt (Guru Dutt's brother had narrated it.

      @@lalwanimotiIt is because Asha Bhosle and Khagesh Dev Burman had said like that I asked. I have no doubt that it is a S D Burman tune.

    Mr Kersi Lord, would it be better if you can become an independent Composer, Music Director and Arranger for today's movies to compose new music in the 1960s and 70s style? Then a renaissance of the music of the good old days would begin.

In the meanwhile if you want to know more on Dada, please view all our videos on TH-cam. There are about about 160+ of them. If you are on Facebook, you may join our group which has nearly 8.000 members. Its name is S.D. Burman (Sachin Dev Burman Fan Club). Thanks for the comments.

    This confirms one of most spread out misinformation that Aradhana songs were composed by R D Burman and not by his father SD Burman. Kersi Lord has clarified that RD was not present at the time recording of Rup Tera Mastana, one of the masterpieces from that movie. Incidentally, this misinformation was planted by a journalist to discredit Mohd Rafi. This journalist, who had some grudge against Rafi, also planted a story in which RD Burman reportedly said that he didn’t care for Rafi. The facts are quite contrary.

      @pramodpatil336, Thanks for comments. I know that journalist who spread misinformation, misguiding generations of music lovers. Later the same journalist Raju Bharatan went on record that RD Burman carried out only instructions of his father.
      I suggest you see the following three videos uploaded from my research.
      Sachin Dev Burman and his Aradhana - Part I, Part II, and Part III.
      I have more proofs uploaded on TH-cam.

    • @lalwanimoti
      @lalwanimoti  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are talking about Pyaasa, Manohari Singh would not have known, as he came to Bombay in 1958, as per his voice recorded interview with us. But for 'Sar jo tera chakraaye' song, in all I have got 24 proofs that it was entirely composed by Burman Dada. The latest proof is our interview with Anitaa Padhye (author), who had heard it from Devi Dutt, younger brother of Guru Dutt. Watch the interview at: th-cam.com/video/dnx7D71-1AI/w-d-xo.html
