The LCD in the NEC is actually likely repairable. The polarizer in some LCDs degrade. It is kinda involved, but you can fix it with just a new polarizer layer!
I used Sendico, which is a proxy service. You add money to your online wallet, bid on things on Japanese websites, then have it sent to whichever country you live in.
Pretty nice lot! I actually own a Sony Vaio P myself and I gotta say its super gimmicky. It only has a 32bit cpu btw. The C1 and U1 is definitely quite weird with its Transmeta crusoe CPU :) The reason why most of the Sony vaio Ps still hold charge is because they probably haven't been used much amd mostly just kept in a box amd thrown into a closet. Losing everything when reinstalling is a big deal due to the software for all the weird sony gimmicks, so just translate everything its worth the struggle 😅 Big shame about that NEC display though. The 2nd message display on the bottom of that Hitachi should be a feature on every laptop, its so nice :) The ipods are definitely something though, if they work and their mics are good it might be great for hard drive recordings. The bootlooping one with a bloated battery is due to the battery supplying not enough voltage to power the thing
Thanks! Funnily enough, all the iPods had a strange issue where their microphones didn’t work at all. It’s ok because I already have a good setup for hard drive recordings. The vaio p is quite slow and strange but I just love it. The ads were super cool. It was very Sony of them to market it as a “lifestyle PC” lol. Crusoe laptops are super cool and I’m really glad to have some. Transmeta was quite ahead of the times. The software situation is tragic. On some of the Sonys the webcam can only be utilized through their special app. I wish someone could develop some sort of language changing program for Win98/XP.
18:30, the boot animation of the Sony logo looks so incredibly modern I thought it was fake at first.
It shocked me as well when I first saw it. Sony loved to make their computers flashy lol.
sick haul
Thanks!

I have heard of that, but I thought the damage went deeper since the image is distorted. I’ll look into it!
How did you bought all of this?

@antequated.archive Yep installing the drivers made the brightness control and volume controls work on my P80H :)
