@@michaelpatterson6508 if your preference is for staying up at night, consider a night shift job. call centers, hospitals, and construction often run 24/7, and you might as well get an easy $1-$3 extra differential per hour just for the fact of working nights. that differential exists because it's hard to find competent staff at those hours. take advantage of it. makes a lot more sense than trying to fit in to the 8am-5pm world.
Oh my god. I feel foolish that I never realized this. I'm 41 now and decided to start working out, getting in shape to better myself. Lost 50 Lbs feeling slim and trim and slimmer than I was in high school. However I'm not as strong, so I starting light training, barbells, pull ups, situps, squats, push ups. Really basic things and it was working. However like that video said. I started sleeping A LOT, come noon, if I wasn't working I passed out. If I stopped moving for any extended time I passed out. So started eating sugar and coffee to give myself energy. Bad idea I realize, because I started working out less and eating crap again. You made me realize I wasn't resting enough and almost certainly wasn't eating enough. I was limiting myself to lots of vegetables, few fruits and light protein. Your video have pointed out several problems I had. So now I must ween myself off coffee and sugar which I didn't drink before I started exercising. So eat better, eat more and sleep when I'm tired. Thank you sir, keep up the great motivation. Some people think you are harsh, but I see it as tough love. Stay strong!

I improved my diet a lot and have been working much harder in the gym, I noticed I'm always tired and wanting naps every day... Thanks elliot for explaining great video, I'm going to take a nap now haha

So far this is my favorite video of yours. I found this video at the perfect time. Lately I've been feeling like I've been going through a "phase" of feeling tired a lot. I really enjoyed the way you explained it through the growth and development of children. Love the videos and thanks for all the great information.
This video really applies to me. I recently began a summer internship and flew across the country to work there. I'm usually a very energetic person, but ever since the first day I landed I've been *so sleepy*. I come back from the gym and I sleep. I come back from work and I sleep. I think Elliot's comments are spot on: I'm feeling sleepy because I'm growing. I'm in a new place, new job, new people, new responsibilities, etc. This video allowed me to understand that, as opposed to becoming frustrated with myself because I'm tired.
I didn’t sleep much as a teenager and didn’t eat that healthy (still don’t). That’s probably why I’m not at or over 6 feet tall right now. For the past sever years I’ve been feeling like I should be taller... like there’s an inner me trying to grow but can’t.
That's an answer I would never expect. It didn't only answered the same question that I had, it also inspired me with so many other stuff in life. This is a piece of best workout advice I've ever gotten. Thank you!
You have no idea how timely this video came to my suggestions. I am 100% it was God who showed me this video. I’ve been completely knocked out this past year- I literally withdrew myself and just rested. This was also the year I became Christian was LITERALLY Born Again. I didn’t understand why I was so exhausted and why I never had energy. Yet mentality and spiritually I was on fire. My growth in those aspects were tremendous, yet my physical health deteriorated and I found myself always exhausted. I believe after 9 months, God is telling me that my “growth” period is over and I am now ready to take on the world as a new creation in Christ. It’s ironic that 9 months is also how long it takes a baby to be formed in a womb, crazy how God works sometimes. Thank you for this amazing video, God bless you.
If you study a lot and can't seem to solve the last problem of the day. Try thinking of that problem just before you go to sleep. The next morning you will suddenly solve that problem with ease.
Currently in 8th grade and I hate when adults (mostly coffee-drinking teachers) nag on me for being tired. Sometimes I even pretend to be sick just to get some fucking rest, like today. I've been sleeping about 16 hours and I'm still tired. School is fucking up my health and I can't do nothing about it. My choices are to either stay healthy and be alert and happy or to get good grades but fuck up my health and be tired and salty all the time.
The machine has demands for you to stay up. This video is very true I remember quiting coffee the day after I couldn't stay up and ended up sleeping right at work.
I look at Elliot as the dad I don't have and a mentor. I don't even know this guy and his videos are helping me out a lot. Physically and mentally. Thanks.
Oh what timing that I find this. We just moved into our new house. Stress is coming down. I'm back to eating clean and the first two weeks I was full of energy and dropped 12 lbs. Today is day 3 of doing DDP Yoga advanced workout program. The first two days I had times where I just passed plain out asleep. Day one was all day. Day two I made it to the evening. Today is my first rest day. I'm trying so hard to stick to a rest day. So I took my kiddos for a long morning walk so I felt I did something. It's so hard not to get up and put that dvd in and kill it! But I'm sore from two days of awesome work. Maybe the sleep is telling me to chill. I was worried maybe I'm not eating enough. On my paleo diet I just really am not hungry as much. This is an issue I thankfully thought of and really identify that I'll kill my body for a week then drop off. I gotta rest. Skillfully rest maybe? Not just sitting around eating gluten free donuts! Any ways sorry to ramble. Thanks for all you do Elliot. This gal appreciates the role you're playing in my journey to the strongest version of me.
XxPBMxX ...and the "dumbasses" (poor language and attitude) in hospitals or funeral homes, or musicians on stage... Sorry, i turned my hobbies into two different professions, and i love doing my hobbies all the time, also at the weekends. I don't have a "job" which is so bad I have to be glad that there is a free weekend. Nobody is forbidden(!) to work on sundays, and no one have to retire if he has work to do which makes him really happy.
started lifting heavy, all of a sudden lost motivation, I felt nervous because i didn't want to give in, but i kept on pushing through. Now i can take a quick break from pushing too hard, calm down and keep pushing through BUT without stress, I was starting to do it just because i knew i had to instead of enjoying it like i did. I am seriously so thankful for this video. Thank you for sharing this!
I miss your videos like this, answering peoples questions and giving your own advice, putting the knowledge you have into your responses. Your a very smart guy and elaborate very well. I would love to see videos like this back again on your channel
You have really good speaking skills, I don't think people realize how essential it is to stop "Uhmm" when you're trying to arrange thoughts in your head.
Elliot, 38 yr old black male..I just found out I'm severely vitamin deficient. I rarely get sunlight. Levels at 10 ng/l and b12 levels at 589. Been feeling like absolute crap the last few years. Constant fatigue, brain fog, lack of motivation, anxiety, gaining fat. Nearly debilitating. In hindsight, I was going going hard the last 2 yrs building my business, average sleep 5-6 hrs per night working 7 days per week. I possibly burned myself out. This rest/restore thing is no joke. Needed to hear this.
Hey Elliot honest question, are you an Economics major? Because the way you explain things and string thoughts in general is very economist-like. Cheers mate, a great video as usual.
I can totally relate. I've been trying out IF for a while now. It's super new to me but i'm managing. But I notice how insanely grumpy I am lately. The littlest things bother the fuck out of me. My sleeps are deeper, and I feel like 8 hours isn't enough. I feel tired. But thankfully watching this video helped bring sense into this. Thank you Elliot! Growth at first really is uncomfortable. Im happy to know that these are signs that im developing a better version of me, even if it's challenging at first
I'm from England & even though I work out myself I'm getting a bit tired of these blokes talking muscle gain & nothing else , your a thinker & like the old style martial artists you bring body ,mind & spirit into it thank you & keep up the good work .
Thank you for this video. I have also been having this problem and I am concerned about it. Perhaps it's because of my change in lifestyle. I was mostly a cardio and HIIT girl, but I finally just started incorporating strength training into my workout routine for the past few weeks. I've been feeling a bit drained and sluggish. In the past after a workout I use to feel so energized and I felt good. Now, I'm just drained afterwards and I don't feel that once satisfying feeling after my workout. I don't like this...😒
Wow I thought I was the only one. For whatever reason after a cardio or HIIT workout, I feel great! Both relaxed and energized. But I was recently wondering why If I just keep it strength training, especially heavy lifting after the lifting is done I often just feel tired and sleepy and sometimes even somewhat depressed and anxious (but nothing serious). So recently I actually added cardio or HIIT and I don't even like that kind of stuff, always much preferred weight lifting until now.
the demand for energy when doing cardio or hiit workouts is different than that of weight lifting. its not uncommon to be really tired after lifting when youve really pushed yourself. all your sugar gets dumped when weight lifting causing you to feel a sudden drop in energy after versus when you do cardio your body is being pushed in a different way. this causes your body to react differently. its just different processes your body goes through.
Doing cardio after a workout is more beneficial than before. if you run before a workout your energy will be dumped into the cardio and youll have less energy for the lifting. Running is also essential to muscle growth being that your legs hold the majority of muscles, as far as grouping, in your body which will create the most amount of boost in testosterone when being exercised. of course testosterone and muscle growth go hand in hand so dont neglect cardio, nor legs in general
Your children and wife are very blessed to have a husband and a father that is of your caliber. You are the last of a dying breed. Thank you for words and knowledge.
When I got my first office job I was so exhausted for the first month. Even now I sometimes have to have a 15-30min nap after work. Now if you don't feel okay and can barely make it through your work day then you might want to get some blood tests to make sure your not anemic or something. But it's totally normal to need a rest after 8 hours of working hard.
I go to the gym 5 days a week. However I go to sleep on average at 2am. Despite getting 8 or more hours of sleep, I think that myself being up that late completely abolishes the hours of sleep i'm getting. I swear if I sleep at like 11 i'll be more energetic and probably see better gains
Glad I came across this video! I just started working out (I’m 38) and I was wondering why I am so tired a little while after I work out. This now makes sense. I am eating much better and not putting garbage in my system but I keep wanting to fall asleep a couple hours after I work out. Too bad my work doesn’t have a nap time!
I remember about a year ago It was damn near impossible for me to not nap in a day. Was falling asleep in college classes. It was also when I decided to fully committed to myself and was working out consistently! You could say I was going through a growth spurt of some sort. Thanks for the clarification E!
Of course you have to rest. Another thing we lose is the lift. When a baby has to pick something from the floor what does it do? squats ass to the floor. Had that pointed out to me by a health and safety officer whilst I was working on the railway. You grow whilst you sleep, you repair, you detoxify. When you lift your basically tearing muscle and your body compensates to repair that by growing more muscle so that weight you've been lifting no longer punishes you.
This is basically whats been happening to me lately. I like the way you break shit down, we think a lot alike its just nice to hear someone else say it. Thanks
6'8 and tired all the time, he should see an endocrinologist. He could have a pituitary tumor. Also, I'm not sure that such tall people should lift massively heavy weights. They tend to develop joint problems because the padding in the joints do not scale exactly with height and weight. Same deal with the heart. It has to work a lot harder. I would do moderate weights and more core body exercises instead of trying to make yourself into the incredible hulk. You really want to preserve those joints.
kemchobhenchod You're absolutely right. The fact that he's taller (a lot taller) than most people is indicative of a possible problem with the pituitary gland not the thyroid gland. Of course, the fact that he is experiencing fatigue is clearly a sign of thyroid disorders but bear in mind that fatigue is an extremely common symptom associated with a number of disorders so it would be best that he discuss this with a well trained doctor...
Guys. Being tired all the time can also be a sign from your body meaning that your liver is failing or doing too much work. This is what happened to me and I had to change things in my diet and exercise more to cure my liver.
hi same thing happened to me please help me about my liver how can i cure it i do exercise my body is not getting bigger even tho i eat but my body is becoming yellow and yellow everyday
YELLOW??!! are you also itchy? It might be a sign of jaundice. Please eat a lot a lot of vegetables. for 2 days reduce your meat and carb intake dramatically, just for 2 and go back to normal. There are also liver supportive pills which work. I used to use GNC liver support or Planertary Herbals stone free. Take care. Also excercise exercise please move and never lie down after eating
Damn, another spot on video, I sleep whenever I can, at school between classes, when I'm not working, basically whenever I'm not in the gym, I'm finding ways to recuperate.
I've been tired (extremely exhausted really) everyday, all day, for several years. Sleeping more doesn't fix it for me personally. What you got to do is go to a doctor. Because there's so many possible reasons why we're tired. Working out when you're exhausted man, it's hard and everything else in your life is suffering too. I'm doing really bad in University, I haven't been there in weeks.
Exacly, GO SEE A DOCTOR. Have blood tests, have your diet evaluated, ensure you take part in positive activities throughout your day that put you in a better place. Take away all the negative non productive stuff, hang out with family and friends who feed you a positive happy energy and a long etc. It could simply be a deficiency in your diet, you could have anemia, or many other conditions… Or it could be psychological related, depression, anxiety. This is all to be taken into account. Elliott here provides food for thought, just a different view point on many things but not a definitive answer whatsoever, he didn't tell the guy what he could be suffering nor how to solve it. No one should watch his videos or anyone else's for a definitive and unique answer to their HEALTH problems.

There's nothing more detrimental to your progression in the gym than not listening to your body. If you didn't get enough sleep to recover from yesterday's training or are under so much stress from your personal life or work, or your nutrition has been way off and you've been eating excess processed foods and not enough proteins and enzymes/vitamins and healthy fats, this will show and will effect your training. Rule of thumb: consistency is everything. If you follow a strength program, follow it to a T even if you aren't seeing results right away, following a decent program all the way through will be benefit you more than following an amazing program every once in a while. Same goes with nutrition. Why? Because the body is not separate from your muscles and your muscles are not separate from your immune system. As much as we'd like to believe; we are not machines! (this is why you grow stronger with the more rest). If you are feeling like crap, lower the intensity and go for volume at light weight to get blood flow and oxygen/nutrient delivery to the muscles and body for recovery and to save your CNS. If you feel great, go for intensity or balance intensity and volume according to how you feel, what your day is like etc. This is also why you'll see ADVANCED and elite lifters (10-20+ years of consistent training) rarely going over board with their training, rather they'll do their mobility, hit a strength lift to create a stimulus and may or may not do accessory work (get in, get out, no bs) and leave because they have experimented and learned first hand what works for their body and balances with their overall lifestyle! Again, no magazine or website or whatever is going to tell you what works best for you, they may give you different ideas to try out (always keep an open mind be open to new ideas and philosophies), but in the end YOU must find what works for you! Being fearless and stepping into the unknown (yoga, bodybuilding, strength or powerlifting, martial arts, gymnastics, maybe a combination of all??) You'd be amazed at what the body CAN do when it is recovered and has the "money in the bank" because you listened to it! Volume vs. intensity is only part of the equation! Good luck!
Wow, this guy is good. Subscribed.

Roundhouse Forty! I fucking know right
Roundhouse Forty! Nope
I improved my diet a lot and have been working much harder in the gym, I noticed I'm always tired and wanting naps every day... Thanks elliot for explaining great video, I'm going to take a nap now haha
So to cure the tiredness we just need to sleep?
OrbitWide ikr who would've thought!
SideEffects297 I have been trough all of this workout 4-5 times a week get the right nutrition, drink coffee most importantly get more calories and carbs to fuel your machine. You will feel way better for sure :)
So far this is my favorite video of yours. I found this video at the perfect time. Lately I've been feeling like I've been going through a "phase" of feeling tired a lot. I really enjoyed the way you explained it through the growth and development of children. Love the videos and thanks for all the great information.
I always enjoy listening to Elliot.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the topic.
-Champion Napper
This video really applies to me. I recently began a summer internship and flew across the country to work there. I'm usually a very energetic person, but ever since the first day I landed I've been *so sleepy*. I come back from the gym and I sleep. I come back from work and I sleep. I think Elliot's comments are spot on: I'm feeling sleepy because I'm growing. I'm in a new place, new job, new people, new responsibilities, etc. This video allowed me to understand that, as opposed to becoming frustrated with myself because I'm tired.
This version of Elliott will always hold a special place in my journey of self improvement
Holy shit, this point 6:00 on spoke to me so fucking hard.
at 6:27 I had to pause because it have me chills... as I recently went through an intense emotional struggle and have emerged from it a new person
so true .. depression and anxiety makes you a stronger version .
I'm going through both right now, I know when I'm a bit older and their both gone (or toned down) I'll be a stronger & better person
Basically he saying that our bodies grow when we're sleeping.
I didn’t sleep much as a teenager and didn’t eat that healthy (still don’t). That’s probably why I’m not at or over 6 feet tall right now. For the past sever years I’ve been feeling like I should be taller... like there’s an inner me trying to grow but can’t.
*XGames & 2000’s Hip Hop* How tall are you right now? How old are you anyway btw?
@FeelsGoodMan I'm 14 6'1 all in the genetics
Omg day 14 of no caffeine and the struggle is real. I feel so lost in many years ways; academically, physically and mentally. Thanks for the video.
That's an answer I would never expect. It didn't only answered the same question that I had, it also inspired me with so many other stuff in life. This is a piece of best workout advice I've ever gotten. Thank you!
"Do we forget that we fucking come from the earth?" Hahaha Eliot's best quote
i love how he gets distracted by a car or something moving infront of him. overall i like this dude, he talks sense
Curious_Taps 😍😚😙
I watched a asmr video and my volume was 100% than clicked this: fuking intro.
lol got you right in the bitch feels
:))
Well that's karma for watching asmr.
Honestly couldn’t tell this video is old. Elliott doesn’t age.
If you study a lot and can't seem to solve the last problem of the day.
Try thinking of that problem just before you go to sleep.
The next morning you will suddenly solve that problem with ease.
Try thinking of that problem just before you go to sleep willnonly makes u insomnia
DefenderX you'll overthink bruh
Currently in 8th grade and I hate when adults (mostly coffee-drinking teachers) nag on me for being tired. Sometimes I even pretend to be sick just to get some fucking rest, like today. I've been sleeping about 16 hours and I'm still tired. School is fucking up my health and I can't do nothing about it. My choices are to either stay healthy and be alert and happy or to get good grades but fuck up my health and be tired and salty all the time.
thats how i was during school time as well, and fuck...for bootcamp i dont think there was a time i wasnt tired
16 hours?! Dayum, man, if that's not enough for you you might have hormonal problems. Also, cough, double negative...
Better go see a doctor.
The machine has demands for you to stay up. This video is very true I remember quiting coffee the day after I couldn't stay up and ended up sleeping right at work.
8th grade haha just wait till ur in college
Are you still alive in high school bro
Got sleepy watching this
I look at Elliot as the dad I don't have and a mentor.
Think this is my 8th video in a row.
I have this problem AND I quit caffiene one month ago.
I woke up to watch this video and now I gotta get back to bed.
in germany its still forbidden to work on sundays
in welchem Deutschland lebst du?
I work almost every sunday - in germany. police, paramedics, gas stations, churches, traffic, certain shops... all they work on sundays.
but 95% arent. only dumbasses who have no educadion have to work in a gas station
XxPBMxX just go and pls never come back. ty
I wish this dude was my dad lmao
+JakNak I was just about to say that. Imagine having Elliot as your dad... you'd grow up to be superman
JakNak I'm good with mine. Love ya pops
I'd be fucking terrified if this was my father. If he looked at me like he did that garbage man, I'd piss and shit my pants all at once.
JakNak
whos your daddy now?
Ask your mom, he might be your dad
You have really good speaking skills, I don't think people realize how essential it is to stop "Uhmm" when you're trying to arrange thoughts in your head.
He reminds me of Vass from Far Cry 3
+Obama Bin Black Man same
I just made this comment to maintain the one year comment interval
Na^
Elliot, 38 yr old black male..I just found out I'm severely vitamin deficient. I rarely get sunlight. Levels at 10 ng/l and b12 levels at 589. Been feeling like absolute crap the last few years. Constant fatigue, brain fog, lack of motivation, anxiety, gaining fat. Nearly debilitating. In hindsight, I was going going hard the last 2 yrs building my business, average sleep 5-6 hrs per night working 7 days per week. I possibly burned myself out. This rest/restore thing is no joke. Needed to hear this.
This is by far my favorite video by Elliot right now. Needed this
sleep whenever the fuck you wana sleep.
Hey Elliot honest question, are you an Economics major? Because the way you explain things and string thoughts in general is very economist-like. Cheers mate, a great video as usual.
This video wasnt only physical health advice, elliot gave phlysophy.... good shit
Still watching these videos in 2022
Thank you for this video.
Does doing cardio before/and after weight training have any effect?
LuvinLyfe052 stick with the cardio
Doing cardio after a workout is more beneficial than before. if you run before a workout your energy will be dumped into the cardio and youll have less energy for the lifting. Running is also essential to muscle growth being that your legs hold the majority of muscles, as far as grouping, in your body which will create the most amount of boost in testosterone when being exercised. of course testosterone and muscle growth go hand in hand so dont neglect cardio, nor legs in general
Very interesting. You sound like an extremely down to earth smart man.
This guy has made me want to better myself and get more in touch with life everything he explains makes sense to me def one of life's motivators man
Your children and wife are very blessed to have a husband and a father that is of your caliber.
I swear if I sleep at like 11 i'll be more energetic and probably see better gains
yeah if you work til close that sucks
So if we sleep at 2am but get 8 hours of sleep do we still feel tired? Why?
my guess is just being awake for so much longer than you need to be that even 8 hours you'll still feel drowsy
most philosophical fitness video I ever watched
can't stop listening to this man, straight up honest opinion, and legit guru.
Your philosophies are on point!
This man is so freaking wise and insightful, almost prophetic like. RESPECT BIG MAN
damn killer points. we all too often forget to have compassion for ourselves.
You got it Elliot. Thanks for all the great videos.
This version of Elliot is so juicy and spot on for me.
As I'm watching this at 5:07 AM..
5:29 here....
Shadowwolf975 2:39 am here ...
wtf is wrong with us lmao
***** 3:23 am
***** They haven't went to bed yet lol
This is basically whats been happening to me lately. I like the way you break shit down, we think a lot alike its just nice to hear someone else say it. Thanks
been doing calisthenics for the past 5 months and i can tell you that my need for sleep has grown drastically.
+SepherStar tell this to Hafthor Bjornsson, Brian shaw or Zyndruas Savickas (google them up)
+๖ۣۜPaty ♫ Zyndruas Isn't that tall tho
OlavHaraldsonDenHellige ! he's 191, that is quite tall
๖ۣۜPaty ♫ rather heavy
๖ۣۜPaty ♫ not to the extent that you get joint problems and shit
Excellent video Elliott.
The answer is at 7:07 if someone was wondering.
Just came across this video-his answer makes sense. I’m surprised more fitness you tubers have not talked about this with their viewers.
Every now and then when i feel i need some motivation or im just board from exercise i comeback to your channel, huge thumbs up
This guy looks like one of the Twin Muscle (TH-cam channel) brothers.
FR
brother
He might also have a thyroid condition because he's so tall. He should see a doctor.
an over or underactive thyroid would not cause increased height
kemchobhenchod You're absolutely right. The fact that he's taller (a lot taller) than most people is indicative of a possible problem with the pituitary gland not the thyroid gland. Of course, the fact that he is experiencing fatigue is clearly a sign of thyroid disorders but bear in mind that fatigue is an extremely common symptom associated with a number of disorders so it would be best that he discuss this with a well trained doctor...
hahah this thread is funny....
I think he is normal, just over exerting his body.
Yeah, we're probably overthinking this :D
Nah keep going! So if he was short would it be a possible thyroid problem.
+lgndarymeth thank you so much ill do that
Damn, another spot on video, I sleep whenever I can, at school between classes, when I'm not working, basically whenever I'm not in the gym, I'm finding ways to recuperate.
i really needed this after graduating from college to a new job... Growth = Tiredness
This resinated with me man, you're a clever dude
I've been tired (extremely exhausted really) everyday, all day, for several years. Sleeping more doesn't fix it for me personally. What you got to do is go to a doctor. Because there's so many possible reasons why we're tired.
Working out when you're exhausted man, it's hard and everything else in your life is suffering too. I'm doing really bad in University, I haven't been there in weeks.
I've had the same problem in the past and the reason was because at that time I was in a deep depression. Could this be your problem?
try some vitamine D man
yeah i feel the same, a good diet, exercise, good friends and a balanced life helps
Maybe you have CFS?
Elliot stares down the garbage man all the time hahaha
haha, like a dog watching the mailman
haha was thinking the exact same thing
This is totally me lately with new job, school, projects, side business and workouts. Thanks for posting. I thought for a moment I was going crazy.
This guy makes the most sense from all the other body builders out their ..talks truth
So true, very upfront. Im going to sleep bye.
7:22 wow that hit me, im smoking a lot of weed and drinking lots of coffee, as well as working 15 hours in a kind of boring place, im always foggy
god damit i love those videos why he is not doing them anymore????

HaMzA The Walking Alive new Q&A- videos coming soon. He told that today while telling people to start sending new questions.
Man, you get deep on this one. It sounds like free flow that needs a beat
