This time, we're covering the KSG.
Returning from Modern Warfare 3, this unusual shotgun design is unique in that it fires slugs instead of the usual buckshot.
The Kel-Tec KSG is a relatively new shotgun design, with the weapon first introduced in 2011.
It is notable for its twin-tube bullpup configuration, which packs 14+1 shells into a relatively compact package.
The selectable twin magazines make it possible to fire two separate ammunition types, ideal for the use of special-purpose rounds by police or tactical response units.
In Black Ops 2 only one ammunition type is used - shotgun slugs, which are heavy solid lead projectiles: essentially big bullets, intended to tackle large game.
They provide large calibre rifle-like performance at a close range, with the heavy-but-slow projectiles rapidly losing energy at longer distances.
In-game, damage is high: with the KSG offering a one hit kill anywhere to the body upon a close range target.
At a mid-range, you'll need two body shots - but a single headshot will suffice to the extent of the KSG's reach, after which point you will deal no damage whatsoever.
The KSG has the longest reach by far of any of the shotguns: this is due to the single slug fired, instead of the spread of buckshot shotguns normally fire.
This means accuracy is very important, and aiming almost a necessity to direct the powerful round towards your target.
The awesome power and range make up for this, however - as you'll find yourself able to tackle enemies at a surprising distance.
In addition, the KSG has better penetration characteristics than the other shotguns: able to pierce through thinner material while maintaining its one-shot ability.
Rate of fire is very low, at just 77 rounds per minute.
The pump-action needs to be cycled for every shot fired, and combined with the accuracy the slug demands, precision should be your paramount concern.
Hipfire can be risky, although thankfully the spread is tighter than usual for a shotgun, instead similar to that of an SMG.
The slower rate of fire does render recoil a non-factor, although your sights will move considerably during the pump-action process.
Aim time is on par with the other shotguns, and the same as an assault rifle - at 250 milliseconds.
Mobility is better than most other weapons, however - at 100 percent of the base speed.
Magazine capacity is very generous, with the twin tubes conferring 14 rounds total: enough to embark on a longer spree without worrying about reloading at all.
Of course, eventually you will need to top-up - and the KSG is refilled shell-by-shell, with the first shell taking 0.8 seconds to insert, and every subsequent one 0.57 seconds.
This means a full reload can be very time consuming, but most of the time you can get away with topping up a few rounds during any lull in combat.
Getting onto target quickly is really the essence of using the KSG effectively - an objective often at odds with the fast-paced nature of a close quarter gunfight.
With such a slow rate of fire, you can't afford to miss a shot - and while the better-than-average hipfire might seem like the best reactive defence, you are usually better off in attempting to direct your shot, than to leave your life to random chance.
The KSG is a high risk, high reward weapon - no other shotgun has the reach to match it, but few weapons have such a need for accuracy.
The impressive range and lethality of this weapon means you'll find yourself caught outside your effective range less often than with the other shotguns.
In addition, with 14 rounds at your disposal - each very deadly in their own right - reloads are a rare inconvenience, and you are quite capable of repelling the entire enemy team twice over.
Of course, this would be reliant on pin-point precision: unlike most shotguns, the KSG requires the utmost accuracy.
Paired with a slow rate of fire, you might find that the other shotguns or SMGs will get the better of you more often in close-quarter gunfights.
Still, for the accurate player the KSG can be a rewarding choice: with judicious dispensation of a few slugs...
...you'll leave a slimy trail of bodies in your wake.

Here's an op tip for this gun:
After firing immediately reload and cancel it by sprinting as quickly as possible. This will allow you to quickly fire again and avoid that slow pump animation.
So a different take on the lfd2 pump glitch where when you shoot, you immediately shove to avoid the cocking animation?

I can't express to you how frustrating it is trying to shoot someone with this gun, who is dancing side to side rapidly with a sub machine gun. YOU CAN'T HIT THEM.
I hate people using SMgs. You could just hip fire them, or knife them. I never aim when I use the KSG.

andrew94 saj It certainly can be, but sometimes its almost too amazing. You can pull off things that will keep the game fun and exciting where other mundane "hold and wait till they die" guns don't provide the same feedback. I suggest going with a medium to low DPI, (mine is 900) you want quick aim down sights, laser sight and long barrel and keep with it until its muscle memory and reaction. Take a quick aim and shot, try to snap your shots onto them instead of holding and following and if you miss, run away and let try to lure them around corners.

Love this weapon. It's also nice to see that lots of other players are picking up this weapon as opposed to when the game first came out and everybody's create-a-class slots were filled with smg's.

My setup I use is KSG with Reflex, Long Barrel and Fast Mags. Flak Jacket, Scavenger and Tactical Mask for perks and Semtex and Black Hat for Care Packages

here's my set-up:

The KSG is an excellent short-mid range weapon, even if it is inconsistent. It's best used with cover. For an idea on range, I've killed enemies in the center near the gas things with one shot from the top floor of the central buildings near the spawns, and two-shot enemies emerging towards the center from the other side. Executioner kills short range enemies quite nicely but the KSG can kill short range enemies hip-fired, even if inconsistent.
Just use cover with this weapon. Cover does wonders in dealing with more than one enemy as you won't win many straight-up gunfights with the KSG.
Anyone else watching this 8 years later?
This gun basically provides the close-range power of quickscoping, but with more flexibility :D

It's basically a mid-range sniper rifle. My highest stats with any weapon come from it, just because of that. 3k kills, 67.8(somewhere around there) accuracy, and a lot of headshots from going for fun challenges.

When i use the KSG, i focus on mobility and accuracy so i can get to the enemies spawn and take them out
if you are switching from a smg like i did. i recomend. this class.
long barrel, quick draw, and the stock. then light weight, toughness, dexterity, and extreme conditioning. this helped because i was used to the fast movement speed while ads with the smgs. i would go 2 and 15 without stock. then i get stock on and i go 20 and 0. the difference it makes for me is unreal
EDIT FROM 2018 (Whooo!): I swear I will buy this game on Steam if it goes on sale for under $30 and if it has players just to use my baby again. I miss you so much, KSG.

I made my class a bit better. Take your equipment out, swap it for Perk 3 Greed, and put Extreme Conditioning. Then put Flak Jacket as Perk 1.

Hey Stu, instead of the combat axe, I would recommend a sidearm, either a B23-R or KAP-40. This will increase your effectiveness in close quarters, which is where the KSG is very vulnerable. And, without fast hands, the axe is almost obsolete. What do you think?
When you get the accuracy right, you can shoot people from super long ranges in 1-2 shots. Also it's one of the fastes reacting weapons in the game. I just love how it feels.

Should have done it first or second. It makes the others feel easy (and improves your aim overall).
KSG was my first gold gun. You just need to have:
A: Luck
B: Accuracy
C: and Accuracy. oh wait...

If you loved the MW3 KSG, that's the issue. You need to pace yourself, be patient. You will take damage, but ensuring your shot lands is very important. A great way to prepare to use the KSG is to use it on progressively difficult bots, to practice patience and timing.
I didn't need it, though. You could also use the DSR with an ACOG, for a while, that's the closest you get. it's not a gun you can pick up and use easily, like the Remmy, which is literally the easiest gun to use in CoD history. Pace your shots, make sure your heavy lead butt plugs land in the right places-Mouth, anus, or dickhole.
Love the ksg. I've mastered it, it's an amazing shotgun. I have like 3500 kills with it and 3.67 k/d. Also 65% accuracy

the KSG has been one of my favorite shotguns since MW3, and continues to be. it makes me giggle when I see kids running the laser sight on it.

Personally 80% of Stu's Black Ops 2 Weapon Guide video has helped me but to each there own. I couldn't do what he did for the SMAW. But I powered through it, I am a Primary Weapons Master so I watch every, studding the secondary weapons video is key for me to have diamond everything.

Helpful vids mate. My freinds and I play 4 player splitscreen on my family's Xbox one. We have the settings set 17 points just for the hell of it. We almost always play hardpoint because it's really fun against hard bots.
We each predetermine our roles before hand. I usually run an engineer class with the KSG and a Launcher. I carry two EMP grenades and blackhats to trigger enemy traps and hack scorestreaks. I use the launcher to take down enemy UAVs and counter UAVs and trap enemy care packages. I'm basically a COD troll and I love it!
This gun was my favorite back then and I'm sad it hasn't came back.

With the right gear, you can use a slug-gun as a sniper IRL. Got a deer at 120 yards last year with my pump action. I'm glad they finally put slugs in the game.

The first time I used this (and the first time I'd ever played an FPS, actually) was at a friend's house. He challenged me to a 1v1 and brought the KSG vs. a loadout I made without ever having played an FPS before (it was bad to say the least). I got a lucky kill, stole the gun, and went on to get something like 45-50 kills in a row before he rage quit and said I wasn't allowed to use the gun because it was OP (he kept using it though).
My favorite shotgun in Black Ops 2 of its power even thought the slug take a use to get.

yeah i agree that the stock could be used instead. It's always good to be ready for the enemy with this weapon instead of snapping onto targets.

Black Ops 2 brought alot of new things though like the ksg, m1216, peacekeeper, scorestreaks and etc. So alot of good things came out of the game for future games lol
My class setup is kinda close to XboxAhoy's. I use the KSG with Stock and Quickdraw. Flack Jacket, Toughness, Dexterity, and Tactical mask. Then a Grenade, and an EMP.

Stu, The KSG is also very effective against Sentry guns and Guardians, 1-2 shots is enough to take one out.
