Sennheiser IE80 : How To Tell The Difference Between Real vs Fakes

- Before purchasing a pair of these from an unauthorized seller (sellers on Ebay or 3rd party sellers on Amazon), check if have a picture of the side of the box with the sticker of the QR code and label ID, which is different than the serial number on the bottom of the box( see my video at 1:48). Ask if they can send you a picture of that. You can check the ID and/or QR code at qr-sennheiser.c... for authentification. If they do not respond or do not want to send the picture, I would recommend not purchasing them as they may be fakes.
Thanks for this help, you’ve saved me wasting my money on a set of fakes, money is tight at the moment and I can’t really afford to waste it on junk
@GadgetGirl
Thanks for the comparison video. It's amazing the length they'll go to produce those fakes.
Sennheiser and other companies should prosecute them..
Regarding focusing, every lens has a minimum focusing distance. When you bring the object too close to the lens, it won't be a able to focus because you're closer than you should be.
5:45 you achieved focus here, that's your minimum focus distance. Beyond that is your no-fly zone :)
Hope this helps.
Thanks for this video. It helped me avoid buying a fake priced like an original.
I really appreciate you making this video. I have just one criticism which I hope you would view as constructive. Perhaps scripting the review would make it sound more professional. Too many umms and ahhs don't do justice to what you are doing. Keep up the good work.
I was gonna write the same thing. So many godamn uhhhs and ummms. So damn anoyying
Write down your bullet points in prep for your videos. But thank you. I was just looking at these on other websites and the prices seemed to good to be true. Thanks for posting and I am in no way being an asshole. Just trying to help
Judging by her camera, I highly doubt she has a teleprompter, and she isn't even looking at the camera most of the time, meaning that having one would barely help. It also seems like she's actually looking at the product so it would be very difficult to script the video.
Can you do an update on the ie 80 S?
They also have a huge counterfeit problem
In most cases of fakes on eBay just type in the exact heading and once you've searched go down to the left and at SHOW ONLY select SOLD ITEMS. Most often you'll see that seller has sold loads with the exact same front picture and if you go to it, they use the exact same text in the details. If they say, "selling my own pair" or "used, but lost box" or similar then they're bound to be fake. Also, they are around £200 new. Selling 'used' you still would want £70-100. If they're selling for £40 then you know it's too good to be true.
Just got a fake one... 😔 thanks for the video
That's all good advice but what if I don't have the real thing to compare it to? The fake looks pretty convincing for somebody who's never seen a genuine package.
I read that they are the exact same earphones. Some employees use untested materials (even some rejected materials) to manufacture the "fakes" on the exact same production line. I bought my "fake" ones for less than €40 and they are, by far, the best earphones I have ever bought and used. Loud, the sound is crystal clear, they are resilient (that's why I have bought my fair share of earphones in my time - they break easily) and at that price I risked it.
This does mean not an audiophile should be happy with these. After all a $300 dollar bottle of wine might taste the same as a $2 dollar one, but it's not the same wine and the pleasure of opening one as no comparison to the other. But I, being poor and with the understanding that the best wine in the world is the one that tastes perfect to you, feel very happy with my "fake" €40 Sennheiser IE-80. I had earphones from Sony, Samsung, Nokia... These are the best!
Where you read it ?
So that means that the one I saw online is fake? Because it is priced at USD50
@@inariray2071 it was too long ago... Quota? Reddit? I found the article by chance...
@@eloy5808 Sennheiser IE80 cost well beyond 50 dollars. But you can buy a nice replica... With these conditions. It's not "Sennheiser Approved".
@@jaypib it is ie80s
Or is it the same.?
Mine are fake and they sound crisp and beautiful
yep me too
WhiteBoyWithAnIpod imagine what the real thing sounds like!
Where you buy them
probably they have same internals, probably the fake ones are made in the same factory that makes the genuine ones.
Mine are also bootleg and
Holy Hannah! Great sound
I have NO complaints. $25.(USD)
Seriously, I have owned
Studio Quality in the past.
Sometimes you do luck out!
Glad I have both in front of me so I can tell the difference between what my box is to a fake / real one -,-“
Great video, helped out a ton. thanks!
You're a life saver! Just found out the ones I bought were fake.... Thank you for this video!
Also, don't mind the pricks in this comment section! Your video is quite good and you're doing god's work here
So what I got from the video is I need to buy both and compare them. Thanks!
Big difference on the sound? , cause I tried wish their earphones (of this model) were same quality and I payed only 50 bucks
Getting a manual focus helps when reviewing or comparing a product. Anyways, keep up the review!
Yes, I own the I-80 immitation
Headphones 🎧 but these are made
from the Original parts.
Sennheiser left China and the Factory also left behind some of the Original parts.
These do not indicate Sennheiser at all.
These are the last of the pieces that were available.
The 'Bootleg' is really excellent and cost far less (about $25.).
I know that there are those that believe
I was scammed.
Really?
These are a bit better than copies
because the parts are original.
Sennheiser pulled out of China
completely.
There's nothing now to copy.
There are a few left.
I bought one.
I'm not disappointed.
I loved your review.
I own the KZ-9 and others.
These are the best I've
bought so far!

What to do when you don't have a box with real ones to compare side by side?
I bought a sennheiser cx180 from amazon but there is no qr code....but the earphones look authentic amd the sound is good too...what should i do? Return or keep?
+Vermin Vibes Its fine to keep them. The only downside is that if they are not authentic, Sennheiser will not help you if the earphones malfunction
The problem of buying fake ones is the audio and quality. You can buy 10 fakes ones which can easily break or destroyed rather than buying one original with audio too far compared to fake ones and quality much better.
So the fakes will never have the qr authentication sticker on the side, or is that just something that was implemented on newer IE80s? And for the fakes, the carrying case (box) has a lot more of a brushed metal look than the reals it seems like.
Hi I got a pair of ie80s and wound how I would know for certain that they are real. I don't have the package :/ did for example the base change on the fake ones after turning on the screw? Is there any definitive way to see if they are fake or real? The text "ie 80" looks thinn, crisp and clear but it'd hard to compare when you don't have the counterpart.
There should be a IE80 sticker on the cable where the cable splits., so see if the font is crisp/clear and is not slanted. The sticker is also inset into the plastic, so if the sticker is just put on top of the plastic, it it likely a fake. Also look at the logo on the metal part of the ie80s. Sometimes the fake companies will not engrave the logo into the metal. If they did, see if the engravings are crisp. When turning the screw for the base on the fakes, there is little to no difference. Hope this helps!
GadgetGirl thanks for the quick answer! The headphones does have the indented sticker and the in printed metal logo. Only think I need to try is adjusting the base then to be 100% certain I guess :) thanks again.
What about a seller actually selling fake earphones with authentic box? is there any way to distinguish the authentication? by for example comparing serial numbers on earphones to those on the box?
+Min Min You can look at the cord and where it splits the cord says IE80. The font on the fakes can be crooked and sometimes a very bad sticker just glued on. The Sennheiser logo on the buds isn't as precisely engraved as the real ones as well
So how about the sound quality? Same?
They won't be the same, trust me. They rely on someone having not heard premium earphones and tune them just above budget earphones. Bear in mind, you can buy excellent sounding budget earphones from Asia (mostly China) these days for £20... but if you compare them to sets £200+ they won't come close.
A lot of buyers of fakes also don't want to admit to themselves they may have been had or swindled. Easier to just carry on with thinking they're wearing £200 earphones that they got at a great price, especially having shown them off and recommended them to friends. Some just want them as a fashion accessory too so won't care if they're fake. .. show off that they can afford expensive gear.
In other words, the average person would never know the difference.
you forgot to said that the in the headphones ..the senn logo in the fakes one are just printed with laser and in the real ones are scratch in the metal
+Anthony novel actually my fakes had the logo engraved on them, but I know that some have it printed on
+GadgetGirl I guess so ...anyway I bought the t20 and I give the fake ones to my dog jajaja
Let me tell you they are both manufactured in China only difference is one has quality control. People need to realize everything they have is manufactured in china I wouldn't be surprised if both headphones right there were manufactured in the same industrial city.
This is nonsense. I've owned IE8, and also bought fake IE8 (like this girl) and they are incomparable. You can tell the fake from the original down to the cable. Currently own IE80.
This girl also fails to identify that the genuine IE80 headphone case contains a magnet so that the drawer stays in its slot when closed... The fakes do not have a magnetised drawer
Wopper loves china fake produxts..fake is fake...there are so many counterfeit in ebays...gucks ebay
do you think the treble is harsh
I think the treble is fine, but this may just be me
I got the fake one, it broke after 1 week .
thank you
Hold your hand higher up to the camera lens when trying to focus the earbuds, don't put them lower
Thank you for the tip, I will try that next time. I am also planning on getting a better camera that has a more effective autofocus
GadgetGirl Nice :)
it was a good comparison nonetheless, keep it up
Thanks for the support! I am wanting to make reviewing products more of a regular thing
I just bought some fakes from Wish just to see how they sound. Paid $45 so no big deal if they suck but one reviewer said they sounded about as good as his HE-560 which if true is pretty darn good. Now I don't know if I believe that but if they sound as good as say my GR04 Pro then it was worth it imo.
bought the same you did and they actually have a real good sound. funny enough i rediscovered some musics with new details i couldn t hear before. the thing is that after 6 months the cable was destroyed (tho i paid attention to keep it as clean as possible) because the plastic seem to get stronger with time and does not allow to bend anymore
So that means, if we buy online, we cant really tell which is fake? Haha
Found a pair of IE800 for 45.95$ They are normally worth around a thousand. Fake?
(sarcasm)
+louisphilippe1100 They sound good and legitimate to me! (sarcasm)
welp i got mine a registered them and got the two year warranty looks like they're both real ones according to sennheiser
Ebay and China... only clues needed
Uhm, uhm, uhm, uhm, uhm, uhm, uhm, A camera doesn't focus instantaneously, especially when you keep moving the phones.
So your telling me it's around 90-95 pct of the same audio experience for a 8th or so the price ? Lol if so you just talked me out of a real pair of ie 80s...lmao because I can get 8- 10 pairs of fakes for the price of 1 pair of ie 80s and it's not like used in ear headphones have any resell value

Dynamic drivers need to be burned in. For the first xx-amount of hours they will sound pretty terrible; while the drivers loosen up and settle in. The difference between pre- and post burn is like night and day. My IE8s, which were arguably better than IE80, seemed to jump up even more in sonic acuity and soundstage after a few hundred hours. Never experienced that with another set of headphones, but the I noticed the change as it happened and there was a definite alteration to the sound permanently thereafter
Anon That's bullshit.
@Master Drakthorian cool story bro.
I bought a fake pair of these ...on mercado libre, the latín American version of eBay, and so on I fight against the seller and at the end mercado libre give my money back and I send him his headphones ...he didn't recibe then ...I call to FedEx to return it back and I get 150 dollars and a fake ie80 ... nobody scam me
No more reviews?? What happened?
+MannyFresh1x just been super busy lately with college, I am hoping to do a few this month :)
GadgetGirl Awesome sounds good 👍
If you are interested in League of Legends, I am now doing streams on Twitch at AurelionSolPlayer.
GadgetGirl ok. Livestream league of legends wild rift also.
this is so good
absolutely phenomenal review
thanks a lot 👍
I see one on amazon for $202. Is it real?
+Igor Kim see if there is a qr code and a label id, you can see an example at 1:40 in my video. If so, check if it is authentic on the sennheiser website. If no image is provided, as for one. I would not buy it without authenticating it firsr
GadgetGirl thanks for the help, I'll be getting it tomorrow.
whats the point of watching video when half the video is filled with "aa"s and "um"s.
safronbandit1 make a video of you talking to the internet and tell me how many times you have breaks in your speech.
i didn't do that much.
this video gave me a headache next time film without white light on top
Everyone shld ban ebay for supporting fake products..
Thanks for the Video but please buy you a good Cam and Mic !
How about you buy her one?
@@derekrosas1593 I don't see what's wrong with suggesting that TH-camr buys themself a good camera and mic....
Go to Aliexpress and see how easy it is to buy fake Sennheiser and Shure gear. They hide it by saying DIY ie800 or some don't even try lol
thanks.. was very useful... you will have to do the IE800's sometime :)
I'd really like to (maybe sometime over the summer), and hopefully some other popular brands such as Shure
@GadgetGirl --- you need a better gadget to review said gadgets
Lol
Makes her more real!
next time use a potato to record video
This is um that's um this is um that um this is um that um this is um that's um this is um this um is that's um
Um um um um um um um
Stop slapping your lips, tutting and saying 'um'. It depicts you as an ammature. Also your differences aren't very clear and your videos aren't organised or well done. A lot of room for improvement here!
