This video is really helping me I am renting this from Home Depot and was nervous but not now, also you two are adorable lol. What a team!
Thanks
I was very apprehensive about trying to use one of these machines but after watching your video I got the confidence I needed. I had tried a small drill powered snake but it wasn’t strong enough to pull blockage up. I then bought a water bladder, blocked other line in kitchen with test plug and put the water pressure to it, after letting water run for about 5 minutes I went outside to see if water was making it to manhole, went out water was spraying out roof vent.😮. I finally decided to go rent this machine, it was a self feeder problem was fixed in no more than ten minutes. I did have to use my cutting torch to heat cast iron plug to get it loose. Thanks for your advice. Saved plenty of money 💰 😊
Good tip on cast iron plug!
Well done. Never done this but the time has come on my mother-in-law's house So I am doing some homework
On a rooming house where I once lived I had to dig up the front yard and replace the old orangeburg pipe with plastic.
Problem finally solved
Good luck

Thank you

This is a great DIY project. Try this before calling a plumber, because all he is going to do at first is go to Home Depot and rent one of these and do what you just saw, only hes going to charge you $500-$1,000 to do it,
Yes, the habit of hiring professionals destroys wealth.
Just had to rent one today for a few hours, would be nice if they had a cover around the line on the machine because its a complete mess going back and forth.
P.S it's a lot easier just to run the foot pedal underneath you as your feeding the line in and out, I cleaned out 75ft today two times back and forth in about 20min. The way you are doing it I'm not familiar with, but what do I know I'm no plumber. LoL 😆
Im running the foot pedal between filming for him.
The use of a camera is very helpful to determine if you have any sewer pipe damage after cleaning the line !
It would be helpful but not available to a homeowner for rental.
@@mommymilestones p,
@@mommymilestones Home Depot rents the cameras for sewage drains now!
@@mommymilestones sunbelt and united both typically carry cameras, as well as a location kit that can help you map your sewer.
I'm surprised you didn't put cardboard or plastic on the carpet. Imagine the stuff the rental has been in contact with.
Giant stain in carpet before we started, new carpet a week later.
that is a hefty auger line lol, id be careful using cutter tips on it, it will do the job but i think its a bit of overkill
Awesome! Glad the video helped!
Question, how come you don't use the reverse function to pull the snake back instead of manually pulling it?
Reverse just spins the cable in reverse. Pushing and pulling the cable is all done by hand.
@@mommymilestones yep, reverse is only used to untangle the line
Good to know!
Will The cutting tips come with the rental
Yes they give you a few different ones.
Alright, I feel obligated to make a few points here. I repair and rent these machines for a living. First, like the man in the video, wear leather gloves while you're using it. She is understating how dangerous a task like this can be. If not for safety reasons, than for hygienic reasons. Second, don't try to fit one in the trunk of a car. If at all possible, use a truck, van, or SUV. She is also understating how heavy these things are. Not to mention, awkward.
Funny thing is these people seem to have no problem with any of your issues Karen. Threw it in the trunk of a car like it was nothing.
It's no problem buddy! Thanks though!
Hey, you're welcome. Glad I could help!@@mommymilestones
At 6:50... That's a RETRIEVER Tool, not for cutting/clearing.
Gets the job done!
That’s correct
Wait, you're not supposed to use rubber gloves? I was using big kitchen rubber gloves.
The cable can grab the rubber and break your hand or arm. Leather gloves are safer.
@@mommymilestones that makes sense, thank you!
They make these "ugly gloves" which work good also I hear. Usually what professionals use. I think they have hard tile attached to them or something so the cable glides over it smoothly. They use auto feed machines though and hold onto the cable. Way he was doing it in the video I don't think he ever even touched the cable while it was turning. Maybe I missed it though.
Why would anybody put carpet in a basement?
To improve the basement and make it liveable.
I have some carpet in a couple rooms in my basement. It's a walkout though. Not sure if it is common in a normal basement. Regardless, I wouldn't put carpet around my clean out. I have vinyl tiles in that area... also in the bathroom/utility room.
@@101perspective I live close to a river, so carpet in a basement is a horrible idea. As a former flooring salesmen, I would say that you made the right choice with the vinyl tile and not putting carpet right next to a clean out. Only an idiot would do something like that.
@@ludwigvanbubthoven5692 Lol... or someone very confident in their sewer line.
Yeah, I'm not even sure I would try to finish a basement if I lived next to a river. On the flood maps I'm outside any major risk areas. One of the things I checked before buying.
This unit weighs 259 pounds and fits in the back of your car. Where do you rent an engine hoist to enter and remove the power auger? Also running down the basement steps is a two man job. I've been there before and it's a job. Just call a plumber and let him figure it out.
We handled is easily. Called nobody.
Thanks!
You betcha, thanks for the super thanks. So 👌 awesome!
@@mommymilestones I went thru at least 3 videos before I finally found this one and it was soooooooo helpful!!!! I had to show some love for yall taking your time to make this video
