- We are waiting to hear if the shops will be open for Christmas shopping here in the UK. What a strange year this is. Here's a look back to 1955 when streets were positivey thronged with happy shoppers!
Snow flakes drifted over London's Regent Street tell the story of the opening of the festive season. One particular attraction was a life like Chimpanzee band in a zoo on the Continent. Back in Britain and Christmas shopping, which has to be carried all the way home by the old man.
CU large star hanging in Regent Street. GV moving shot Regent Street, stars, traffic and large crowds. CU and LS various shops and their displays, DH Evans, Selfridges, Bourne and Hollingsworth. CU window displays, kids looking through windows. 41ft Scenes in the Monkey House.

I’m a baby boomer, Christmas in the 50’s & 60’s was the best time of the year.
To wake up and find a new doll or a bicycle 🧸 🎄🚴🏼♀️🥁🎁💌 🤶🏽 🛍 ⛪️ . The best childhood ever. Those were the days my friend.
Never again will we see Christmas like this again
Happy times
I wasn't born til 57 in north London, but man, I'm so glad my folks had me when they did. proud to be born in the worlds no 1 capitol city.
MERRY 🎄 CHRISTMAS
lovely toys
Thank you
Lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Perfect in its imperfections.
I was born in London the day after Christmas 1955. So, that's what it looked like. 😀
The lion cub is weirdly incongruous
Good old days
Less technology, people were more simple and kind, free from greed, lust like nowadays.
Stay bless all
Ameen
London is full of snowflakes now
Yes!
“Free from greed” lol... Sure pal
I hate to break it to you, but people have always been equally kind and unkind, equally full of greed and generosity and lust. We all view the past through rose colored glasses of nostalgia because we remember the good things and not the bad.
@@mccuenoirfilms I can't imagine many of these people pushing, shoving and fighting over items nor shops having to have security like they do today I think is what was meant.
When Britain had a white Christmas

وهنا تعرفتم عليا😂
Poor kids back then... no computers, iPads or Playstations... only wooden and tin toys.
And homemade clothes as present of course, the disappointment!
They spent all year getting caned and beaten at school by teachers just to get shit presents at Christmas

When Britain had a white population 😮
