  • I've got a different take on AI music than most of my peers. For many, it's all doom and gloom, but there is the possibilty that all of this evil technology might actually make things better for those that appreciate good music.

The problem is the tendency of people being programmed to like bad things. They are programmed to enjoy a fake steak at 30€ just because the restaurant looks sophisticated. This is why aesthetics is the core of the issue.

I personally am excited about the future of this tool. As a "not so great" musician, so far, I am not overly impressed with the results I have received but, I can see myself using it to provide me with ideas to actually produce (with the help of real musicians) a good song. I see this as an inspirational tool and look forward to what the future will bring.

I agree with everything you say. Stop thinking about what people think about your music. We may make a better songs than Some of the songs nowadays which making big hits.
Just do that you love for yourself first.

Personally I enjoy a lot of today's music. But not mainstream things for the most part. The current underground is the most creative music has ever been.
That said, ai will absolutely make it impossible for artists of all kinds to produce income by making art. However, to me, it purifies art. Shaving away the greed that has leeched from it. We will make art for the reason we did as creative children, because we like to.
Also, make no mistake, ai will soon be producing content of all kinds with unmatched fidelity. Emotional fidelity as well. So it won't continue to be stale or sterile for much longer. We are witnessing the birth right now. Soon, I look forward to having constant unique content surrounding me. Visuals, audio.. Who knows what else? Sensations? Thought sharing?
Lastly, I do agree that if an artist quits because of ai, then they aren't truly an artist, they are in it for money and attention.

    Great video, great points, thx!
I agree that the NEED for "real" musicians, composers and producers will increase, but not due to a FLOODING of AI music.
    Why do I say this?
Because the humanity won't have the TIME TO LISTEN the millions of new songs/fragments of music generated everyday by AI. I believe that all these files will be listened only by who spent some time prompting it.
What a waste of electric energy! Imagine the carbon footprint produced by OpenAI's Stargate project just for us to generate "funny" tunes for our friend's birthday parties...

That's right. Same with art, people will want to see hand drawn art, as digital art becomes de valued

It’s popular in the music community to hate on AI in social media while some of those same haters secretly enjoy playing around with it. It’s a tribal, knee jerk reaction to what some perceive as a threat. The truth is that many of those complaining don’t actually have a “career” in music. They just hoped for one someday and now they have an excuse for why they never made it happen.
Personally, I think it’s great and see a ton of potential for songwriters and composers to work out ideas. That’s especially true with Udio and what they have planned and already implemented.

I'm a extreme expert in my field. I have absolutely no problem with accepting the reality that AI will be superior to me at my craft. Humans are going to be put out of work by machines. It's really common sense. I'm actually struggling with grasping why people refuse to accept this. Is it out of habit that people don't embrace this reality? Is it ego? Is it out of necessity? I genuinely don't get it. Can a human out pull a tractor? No, a tractor will always be stronger than us. We can grasp that reality now, so why is it difficult to accept that a machine can outperform a human in everything else. What's the problem with machines doing everything anyway? You need a job to get a feeling of self-worth? Is that it? You are meaningless if you aren't selling something? Look, my take is that instead of questioning whether or not a machine will replace you at your job, we (as a collective) need to be talking about the next step. Is it UBI? Is it a new economic system? Otherwise, you fools are just walking around with fingers in your ears singing "LaLaLa I can't hear you LaLaLa".

Well put, let’s think of solutions and adaptations to this situation. Going back to gaining a sense of self worth etc from having a job, maybe the system as it is/has been has encouraged this to be the case because we need to work to earn money to survive and that mindset has adapted accordingly.
But if machines replaced our need to work and we just keep the machines in check then we wouldn’t need to suffer doing pointless or dangerous work.
Relating back to music terms, this could mean things like people being able to play and naturally compose to support the human spirit and have the machines do the computer side of things.
Idk, just my two cents haha

There is a lot more choice in both creating and consuming music now.

I wrote an article on Substack which echoes exactly what you are saying here. AI will make great musicians arise again, and cancel mediocrity, which is more than average these days.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. A lot of music is already manufactured instead of created. It’s common to follow systematic approaches to ensure one’s music “fits in,” follows the rules of their genre, and appeals to a wide audience. Also consider that ghost production has been around for a while as well. AI is just going to make this process easier and more accessible.
However, I think this music tends to appeal to casual listeners rather than listeners who explore music. I personally go out of my way to “crate dig” because I crave music that sounds created rather than manufactured. I want to hear something an artist made, not a company. In my opinion, there’s tons of music out there that might as well be generated by AI as it is.
