That box jellyfish you mentioned is actually called the *chironex fleckeri,* AKA the Sea Wasp, and it’s bizarre how it doesn’t rank #1 here since it IS the most potent of all the box jellyfish species. Luckily I knew what they were so I wasn't alarmed 😳. Also for all those people who are wondering, they are so hard to pop. They are much harder to pop than I thought.😂
The Portuguese Man of War is also called Blue Bottle in Australia that is what we all call it and you can pop it with the back of your foot and will not get stung, i do this all the time.

They're called Bluebottles here in Australia...I've popped hundreds of them barefoot, it's tons of fun. As long as you don't touch their tail you're good!
We have blue bottles on the east coast beaches in South Africa too, I remember the last time we went to Durban, the beaches were closed because they were littered with those things, but there were still people walking on the beaches. Birds Most of these animals are deep water animals or tropical animals. And anyone who knows anything about the tropics will tell you that it's filled with tons of dangerous things. And I'd be more concerned about the land creatures there then whatever is in the ocean. In other words, the shoreline is safe and don't mess with wildlife.

I’ve gotten stung a heap of times and they’re not even that bad, all you have to do is have a hot shower and then put ice on it. I was in Romania at the black sea for a holiday. I was there in the morning and it was all fine. Waves were HUGE!! Came back at night again with some friends. The water was black, completely black. The waves were absolutely huge. Way bigger than in the morning. We were there by ourselves and everyone had left. We were diving in the water and we were really far from shore. I noticed a GIANT blue jellyfish and it just disappeared from the water. I told my friends about it and they didn't believe me. 10 minutes later, they found a dead blue jellyfish but it was not as big as the other. I knew it wasn't the same one but I also know that there aren't supposed to be any jellyfish in that sea (or at least I think). I got scared and I ran out and returned to my hotel. I talked to 3 of my friends that night. The other one didn't respond to my messages. He never will again.
One time I saw a Portuguese man-of-war floating in the water of my local beach and I I thought it was a toy shark so I swam up to it and right when I was about to pick it up my big sister pulled me back quickly by the strap of my swim suit telling me what it was lets just I didn't go back in the water that day a few days later there was a sign up on the beach that read " BEWARE MANY Portuguese man-of-war" and I was like so now they decide to put the sign up.
WRX 7 Im from the west coast of South Africa, we do have them quite often but not particularly on my beach. We still walk on the beach if there are blue bottles, we just dont step on them 😉 (In SA we call them blue bottles) I stepped on one when I was a kid and all I remember was pain 😂 And all the sweets kids get for being 'brave'

I was in Romania at the black sea for a holiday. I was there in the morning and it was all fine. Waves were HUGE!! Came back at night again with some friends. The water was black, completely black. The waves were absolutely huge. Way bigger than in the morning. We were there by ourselves and everyone had left. We were diving in the water and we were really far from shore. I noticed a GIANT blue jellyfish and it just disappeared from the water. I told my friends about it and they didn't believe me. 10 minutes later, they found a dead blue jellyfish but it was not as big as the other. I knew it wasn't the same one but I also know that there aren't supposed to be any jellyfish in that sea (or at least I think). I got scared and I ran out and returned to my hotel. I talked to 3 of my friends that night. The other one didn't respond to my messages. He never will again.

One time I saw a Portuguese man-of-war floating in the water of my local beach and I I thought it was a toy shark so I swam up to it and right when I was about to pick it up my big sister pulled me back quickly by the strap of my swim suit telling me what it was lets just I didn't go back in the water that day a few days later there was a sign up on the beach that read " BEWARE MANY Portuguese man-of-war" and I was like so now they decide to put the sign up.

WRX 7 Im from the west coast of South Africa, we do have them quite often but not particularly on my beach. We still walk on the beach if there are blue bottles, we just dont step on them 😉 (In SA we call them blue bottles) I stepped on one when I was a kid and all I remember was pain 😂 And all the sweets kids get for being 'brave'
