My 1st visit as a kid was 1964. Needless to say CP looked nothing like it does today. For example there was no front gate, heck no fences. The picnic pavilion you referenced was not a pavilion but a grove of trees with scattered picnic tables . I remember my dad would drive the family car through the Blue Streak into that picnic grove where he parked and we set up our picnic items at a table right next to the Blue Streak. The monorail that another commentator mentioned would travel through that picnic grove.
Last time I was at Cedar Point was 2007. I remember it having a really cool arcade with, in my childhood memory, hundreds of awesome retro machines. Now when I look it up, it appears to be the same generic junk you see at any Dave & Buster's across the nation! Dang! What happened??
It was really nostalgic for my wife and brother, who both went a lot during the period this street view is from. It's always feels like not much changes until you look back like this and really see just how much advanced in a short period of time. Gotta give them some credit, cedar point is always trying to keep things fresh. Sometimes that's good, and sometimes we lose something in the process.
Yep! I love a lot of the new things they are doing in the park, but it doesn't mean they haven't made some bad moves along the way. A lot of what irritates me is when I see stores or rides get "updated" and usually the update means stripping much of the character away from it.
Frontier Town is going to change a lot because we're losing Snake River Falls in the off season. Disaster Transport was nice because it had a lower ride height requirement of 42 inches so it was good for little kids. also the indoor queue was air conditioned. if you really want to see a different Cedar Point there are people's home videos uploaded here on TH-cam. I found one from 1961 and absolutely nothing is the same. this was from before even Blue Streak which was built in 64. they had this weird looking monorail that hung below the track. it was very strange
When we were kids? You'll need to show the park in the 90s for that. While we got to see Disaster Trasnsport, WildCat, and Antique Cars, we don't see White Water Landing, Demon Drop, Disaster Transport, Pirate Ride, Paddlewheel Excusrions, Mill Race, Jungle Larry, the Imax theater (which was where the Good Time theater is in this), and heck, I even remember being a little kid on the Sky Slide. Also sad to see how souless and corporate the place has become, even if there are a few good changes. Also, WildCat itself was the successor the original Wild Mouse that closed in 1963 and original Wildcat that closed in 1978. And people liked Mean Streak when it first opened, but it quickly got very rough and practically gave you a concussion riding it.
Technically, I was a kid both in the 90s and in the early 2010s, so it still counts 😂 in my opinion, I hazard the use of "corporate" but I definitely understand the vibe you are talking about. Much of the buildings in the park feel "same-y" and just use the same generic modern architecture style that you come to expect nowadays. And that's something I really tried to highlight with this video and tend to focus a lot on in the future. Character, theme and story are going to be huge if SF/CF are going to try and compete with their biggest competitors. And that means doing fun buildings and styling again.
I never thought about this, but maybe there is something to that. Setting aside areas that are reasonable for people to smoke/vape might make people less likely to just do it anywhere and annoy others.
Hilarious 😂😂😂 Bro, try being 45 years old and remembering what the park look like when you were six and seven years old 😮 yeah I remember what this Park looked like in the mid 80's

This was nostalgic. I live 2 hours away and always took trips here almost every year. CP has come along way and it was AMAZING back then

I live only 1 hour away
underrated channel. nice video!
12:21 I'd like to see an observation tower in Frontier Town called the "Grand Canopy".
Hmmm... Maybe with the closing of snake river falls, we could see something like this
What a fun look back. I wouldnt have thought it would be so different! Some of the changes good, some bad.

Already working on a video for the future of snake river falls! Cedar point in general really lacks air conditioned spaces nowadays.
@@cedarpointless Gatekeeper bathroom is air conditioned

I miss the smoking area's, now everyone just vapes everywhere...

If you compared then to now, I can't imagine how unrecognizable it would be
