Literally had health class in this basement back in the early 2000s. Ps it’s not really haunted, that rumor got started from a teacher using a projector of a ghost.
I always wanted to see this basement when I was in middle school in the mid 90s and never managed to be allowed down there. That blue chair covered with dust is quite creepy, lol. (And Lord, how I remember those blue chairs from the cafeteria!) I wonder what all the different rooms were originally used for. Would be fun to take a metal detector down there. I think the current building was constructed in the 1920s, but it was built right on the site of the original school that was torn down, and that one was built in the 1870s or 80s. This is apparently what the first building looked like right after it was finished (when it was both the middle & high school): www.jaspercountyschools.org/z/id36.htm Then this was in the 1910s shortly before it was torn down.(And looking at the pic, I'm baffled as to why - it was a beautiful building, much more so than the one they replaced it with. It couldn't have been that run-down after only 40 years or so. Was there a fire? A flood? A tornado?) www.hometowngenealogy.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/highschoolbldg2.jpg But as far as I know Iva E. Wells was built in the exact same spot. And the foundation looks the same in every pic, including the current building. So the basement itself could be original to the first 1870s/80s building. Who knows what's down there!
