  • Welcome new (Posh) DAN from WGC. This is how the guys on the 305 group welcome new CB breakers. Introducing "Posh Dan" a totally new radio operator from Welham Garden City in Hertfordshire UK. His started off with a basic set up of a CRT SS6900 and a cheap Silver Rod antenna set up at home. On this video the guys do a great job of making him welcome.

    Yeah, yeah It's time, Fred in the Shed:
    What more could you ask for? Its Fred in the Shed
    You'll complain about CB.
    Y'all think I'm rappin' talking to the dead,
    Why I'm sitting here in my, Delightful Shed
    I can't take the CB, to my bed or the misses
    would send me to grave & not the Shed
    I would a tried to sleep I guess I got rap
    If y'all on CB give Fred & Posh Dan quick side key tap
    That was off the top of my head. I love CB/HAM. It'll still be around & live when digital platforms go dead 🖖👍

    Interesting channel I've found here. Even though I am now an inactive ‘ham’, I used to be on the CB rig a lot in the late 70's. Not sure what the traffic is like now, if any. Still got a few rigs and a Starduster (I think) outside. I ought fire one of them up one day and have a listen.

      Same here, Too many stuff-shirts with a superiority complex on amateur radio. Still licenced though but not active. Back in the days before Satnav I was bailed out many times by CB operators when I was driving HGVs. Put out a call and almost invariably a CB operator would come back with directions. Yes, there were idiots on the CB channels but let's face it we have to deal with idiots everyday, particularly politicians.

    I do miss my cb, I had a Tristar 777 with an Electronica 5/8 wave on a scaffolding pole on the side of the house. Those were the days. The highlight was a girl that I had fancied for ages happened to speak to me on there and I ended up going out with her, all thanks to being on a cb. Hello Fred. I have just bought a Horse Lorry to transport my Daughters to events and I thought I would look into fitting a CB to keep me occupied whist using the Truck and waiting around on wet days. I have been watching your posts here and bought myself a CRT 9900 based on your videos with a Thunderpole Orbitor. It's fitted today and I am already hearing a few voices on the triple 5 from Italy and Spain ! I'm based in the South West of Ireland, 180 meters above sea level. So I guess on a fine day with the wind behind me, I might be able to catch you on the 305 ? I had a 40 Channel Midland CB back in the day. This is my first time using Sideband. So I am now trawling your videos for tips and advice.

    Hey Fred,
    Thanks for this channel and all the vids.
    I was looking at replacing a scanner I had (&sold) as I enjoy listening to the air bands. I drive a Sprinter long distance every day and I thought having some different to entertain me might be a good idea.
    Then I started wondering what the CB scene was like these days. I was a teen in the 70's/80's. Used my dad's FM radio more than he did, he was horrified when I acquired a Midland AM set which was by then illegal, with a firestick on a quality street tin inside my bedroom. Especially as he was the DJ at the very popular local 'Eyeball' CB disco.
    Thanks to your videos I think I'm going to take the plunge.
    I definitely want the SSB because having those possibilities fascinates me. Ideally I want a set which I can have in my work vehicle for local but disconnect with a reasonable amount of hassle to bring inside for a bit of distance. So currently, I might add excitedly looking at my options.
    Thanks again for the vids, they seem to be just what people like me are looking for. 👍

    Up here in Greenock Scotland the CB picked up for a while.. Now it is starting to dwindle again as the lock down thing ended.
    There are a lot still using the 11m 27.000 - 27.700 USB.
    We are thinking a lot about how it will be a year from now?
    Always leave a gap. You never know who will be trying to come in..
    Every rag chew just make it known to leave a little gap for those further afield..
    I'm the world's worst for not leaving one but if there's a few of you that's better.

    The people that complain there is nothing on CB are like the people who get a new landline but dont give anyone the number and they complain the phone must be faulty as no one is ringing them.
    Stop expecting other people to do stuff for you. If you want to talk on the CB put calls out at reasonable times of day and drum up some traffic yourself.

    Nice video Fred, CB has been in my family since the 80’s which my elder cousins and I was active from the early to late 90’s and absolutely loved it and had some great times and made some great friends. Sadly though it became the domain of drug addled dole monkeys who just wanted to play music and shout abuse, and I turned off as many others did.
    10 years ago I started to volunteer with a local organisation who use amateur radio for their comms and I done my foundation license through that and ended up buying a wide banded icom 706 mk2G (shack in a box) however tbh I couldn’t really get into the HF side of amateur and and the VHF / UHF is pretty dead locally, and I don’t really have any interest in digital modes etc.
    I still have my old Mk2 Cobra in the loft, as well as couple of old Uk 40 boxes, but local CB is all but dead now and the few that use it really aren’t my cup of tea, and you wouldn’t get peace transmitting from the house. I have done a bit of static mobile from hill tops, but I very rarely have the time to get out of the city these days.
    You are so lucky to have a net of decent folk who still respect the old radio conventions and are still enthusiastic about the hobby, enjoy 👍🏻

  • @black5f

    305? Is this channel 30 CEPT for us older guys ha ha?
    Mucked around with PMR for years, but it's noisy and limited, so many people use them. Used them for talking to the wife re what I caught fishi and what herbs to get etc... anyway.
    So this is frugal? Used to be into CB in the early 80's. Son bought an old LR which had a CB fitted. Same time my Dad died. His York and Cobra needed TLC so they went to a good home. Found a silver rod which I gave to someone who was trying to set up an older lady on CB for hobby / company. Found an old excaliber, stuck it on a pole in the garden. Dug out my old York JCB and a Midland which work but are 40 years old and a bit noisy (capacitors)... I got back into scanning, made some antennas, one for ADSB (1090) and one centred around 127 for air band (T2LT flowerpot design) .
    Anyway, I got a t800 and a tti H100 hand held to update a bit. Really nice bits of kit? Talk to the wife 5 miles easy.
    What surprises me now is I've got 80 channels (27/81 and CEPT) on these two rigs and almost no one else (round here)?
    Was in the North of Scotland 4 weeks ago, listened into a conv. Someone said Tunbridge Wells? So I went in on the side, got some abuse about not responding to copies? I was actually fishing in a valley North of Ft William at sea level with a hand held H100? And I guess that's CB?
    I think what you are doing is great to promote CB, these free channels are still there and so under used. If we don't use them .....

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Yes 305 is channel 30 cept / midblock. Usage varies around the country. Iam lucky here that the 19 is chatty most of the day but sometimes at the weekend i can go hours without hearing a soul. There is a small risk that we will loose 27 MHz and it will be sold off for business use.

    • @black5f
      @black5f ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CB-RADIO-UK Didn't know that? Seems odd business would want 27 due to the rather inconvenient length of a decent antennae for best range? I'm Nothants, quite high but I think out of range. Yeah, that's what CB used to be like here in the United States. People were respectable and gave breaks, now we have to run to usb just to have a conversation. Breakers now are either rude or ignore if you don't fit into their click. But I still manage to stick with it. AM here is a wasteland.

    Just wondering what is the difference between upper side band compared 40 ch CB

    • @miker8379
      @miker8379 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short version. AM is your basic Cb. AM has 2 side bands and a constant carrier legally 4w in USA. On upper or lower sideband you get 12w legally. The carrier goes up and down with voice modulation. You do have to tune stations in or they sound like Donald Duck. This is not so much a issue with newer radios.
      Most of us are using higher power radios of at least 30 watts
      Uk and Europe uses a lot of fm. That’s the basics.
