I got My first hearing aid when I was about your age and my second about 10 years later. I am now 81 years old and realized I would have missed a lot of exciting family things. If I hadn't gotten them. I have absolutely no regrets in getting my hearing aids and now am able to enjoy great grandchildren and what they are saying and doing. You will be so happy with yours because technology has come so far over the years. Yours look to be super high class and I know they will make a big difference in your life.

I got hearing aids 2 years ago at the age of 38!
I lost about 50% of my natural hearing literally overnight and it was not able to be repaired.
I have resound 9 hearing aids. Bluetooth connectivity etc and my life has improved so much! I am no longer hiding from social situations for fear of not being able to converse with people properly and my customer facing job has become so much easier.
They are just a part of my daily life now and I could not live without them!

I’m happy for you! My husband needed them and when he finally agreed to get them he wouldn’t wear them 😮 His right hand is paralyzed and he didn’t want to ask me everyday to help put them on. I told him he needed to wear them for me because I didn’t want to keep repeating myself! He wears them everyday now and what a new world ❤❤

I got them two years ago and. After wrapping your head around the fact that you need them, the difference is amazing. I can’t believe how much I’ve missed before them. And yes, they are very expensive and not covered by most insurance. I wear them all the time and can’t understand why people who have them don’t wear them. I have Oticon as well

I am also 43 and I am hard of hearing and need hearing aids as well. I have not yet been able to get mine because of cost but I am looking forward to getting them. I misunderstand everyone all the time and sometimes people get upset at me when I can't hear them and have already said "what" like 5 times. Thanks for posting this really helped me to hear that I am also hard of hearing and 43. You are awesome!

Im so glad you posted this video, im 28 and have had hearing aids for around a year now, but realistically i have probably needed them my whole life - i just didnt realise how much i was missing. I had gotten to the same stage as you, where i knew i hadnt heard something properly - but i just shrugged it off and moved on. Its such a life changer to be able to hear now, especially for work or out in public.

I have worn HA's for many years (i was born with Rubella so have a severe to profound loss in both ears) i just replaced my 9 year old phonaks with the Oticon Real (1) and i LOVE them. Miles better than my old ones - i hear when an airplane goes over our house (way up there as we are not near an airport). That's something i never really heard before. These also make communication so much easier - i just hear, i don't have to think about it or worry about it - i just hear, and i love that. Talking on the phone is a breeze but also talking in loud noises (eg: busy restaurant) ... i've never had it so easy before. I agree with you quality of life makes these worth it and i am grateful to be in a place where i can literally get the best hearing aid on the market. Mine are charcoal colored. I have the disc/desktop charger but i might go back and get the smart charger more for when we go camping which is always for a week at a time and having the first 3 already in the charger is helpful (i will use additional battery banks for the remaining days camping). I love love love the rechargeability though. No more batteries, no more having them die at the most inopportune times. Anyhow - congrats to you!! I am so happy for you!

Hi Eric, I watch youns on TH-cam most of the time. I love youns too. Youns are a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing today. Glad you went and got the hearing aids. I know your quality of hearing from now on will bless your life immensely. I'm almost 65 and about 10 months ago I developed Tinnitus in both ears. Different sound pitches all the time. Went to Audiologist and my hearing is really good but I lost the high frequency hearing that younger people have. They said it most likely triggered the Tinnitus. They said I could get hearing aids the kind that produce white noise sounds to help block out the noise I hear. But for now I use a fan when I sleep, daytime notices helps block it out. Thsnks for sharing your heart and I hope it does help people who need hearing aids to go get them. Your wonderful. Theresa

Good for you! I’m sure you already know how life changing your hearing aids are. I got my first pair around 37. When the audiologists first put them on me, I didn’t even recognize my own voice. I had no idea just how deaf I was. They ended up having to turn them up slowly over 4 visits. At first the itchiness drove me nuts! I always wanted to scratch the insides of my ears. She is right though, it will go away. Now if I happen to not have my hearing aids on (which isn’t often) feeling the breeze in my ears feels so itchy lol. For me, hearing aids have been life changing and I had so many “firsts” once I got them. I agree, they are so stupidly expensive. My first pair was around $5000 and they only lasted 3 years. I’m on my 2nd pair now which are out of warranty, being about 3.5 years old now. I’m hoping they’ll keep going for another couple years before I have to replace them again. Isn’t the Bluetooth cool?!? I love it. It’s like I have built in headphones. And at work I can listen to a podcast or something, and nobody has a clue lol. I hope they are feeling more comfortable for you now, a couple weeks later.

watched a video from one of my fav comedians recently, where he found someone's phone sitting on the stage near his feet. turned out a woman who's deaf with hearing aids had put it there so she could hear him! he even did a fun bit where he picked it up, turned around, and whispered into the phone so only she could hear him 😂so happy and excited for you!

Isn't it amazing what technology can do these days? You can barely even see them! I seriously wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't point them out!
I think FAR more of us in our 40s and 50's have hearing loss than we know! We get our hearing checked in school as little kids, and then all destroy our eardrum as teens and in our 20s, going to concerts and blasting our radios, or God forbid, you're actually in a band, and then they never get checked again!
I KNOW I don't hear as well as I used to (I'm 50), but no one has checked my hearing since middle school!

I got my hearing aids last year. I delayed getting them earlier because of the cost, but I watch my two toddler grandsons during the week, and noticed them saying, "Let's go get a cookie from the kitchen. Nana won't hear us." I am so glad I got them. Mine are Phonaks. They have an app on my phone to adjust the volume setting and switch to 'restaurant' 'music' and 'TV' in addition to the automatic setting. Mine are rechargeable which is very convenient. My biggest surprise was driving home from the office with my new hearing aids. My car windows were slightly open, and to my surprise, I could hear the air flow. It took a few days of hollering for the birds outdoors to be quiet before I got adjusted to Mother Nature. Total game changer for me.

Thank you for this information. The Dad I should have had is hearing impaired and he has hearing aids and he has problems hearing people in crowded places. I’m gonna suggest that he talk to his audiologist and see if there are hearing aids that might be better for that. I think this video proves that there are.

I have hearing aids also, I had my first pair 5 years ago, I was 54 at the time. I was just like you, not hearing people and having problems in crowded places etc. They literally change your life, you will hear things that you have not heard for ages and even now I’m always saying to my hubby, what is that noise?. When I had them fitted the first time, when I left the shop I could hear my own footsteps, I hadn’t heard them for a long time, it was amazing!. You will feel tired initially as your brain has to get used to hearing again, but stick with it, in time this gets better. I have Bluetooth hearing aids as well, I get some strange looks if I’m on the phone walking down the street, as my hearing aids are like yours, very small and hardly visible people think I’m talking to myself as my phone is in my rucksack and they don’t see my hearing aids, they do a double take, I find this funny, lol 😊. I look forward to following your journey with your new hearing aids, you will find the world has suddenly got a lot louder, but in a good way, take care and keep safe all of you 🙂❤️X

i saw an audiologist yesterday at Cosco, but plan to buy the same hearing aides that you chose (on order). Itching ears is a problem for me also. She said that as you age, you have to moisturize your skin, and your ears need it also. She suggested a couple of drops of "Comfort Ear" for lubrication and to stop the itching. She said I could also use a couple of drops of Sweet Oil that can be bought at Wal-Mart. Just don't want to overdo it. The hearing aides at Cosco certainly enhanced my ability to hear, but didn't seem like natural hearing. Does your new hearing seem a little off or unnatural?

Look into getting LYRICS Eric, they need to be fitted by your audiologists, because they stay in your ear canals 24/7. Every 8 wks or so you go back to your audiologist to get a new pair fitted. They only downside is you can’t get water in your ears, so no swimming underwater. These hearing aids aren’t really cheap but worth every cent as nobody knows you have hearing aids so you forget you have hearing issues. I’ve had mine for probably about 5 yrs. Good luck with whichever ones you end up getting and hearing issues suck big time xx

I've noticed you didn't do a follow up video on your experience with hearing aids before the age of 50. I would like to know how it has helped to better live your life to it's fullest by having them. And I would also like to get your partners take on what and how it may and or have improved family life by getting them? Also how has it helped with your job or do you work in a factory setting? My Audiologist told me not to wear them at work, because I work in a noisy factory.
      Thank you for sharing.
