Lyrics: Half-cooked meals and instant coffee Outside the gas station store a question I just can't wash off me is this what I left home for? Sleepless nights and tired mornings Bleary eyes and bruising knees Is isolation habit-forming? Am I just drifting out to sea? Man they said it'll all work out In the end things always do So I guess on some level I understand That that's just always true But what happens when I keep running And one day I run out of room? Get to the end of the line and In the back of my mind It's still you So if you hear this song Know that my heart's been breaking long as I've been gone Know that I'm feeling like I'm doing it all wrong Know that most nights I wanna cry I'm scared and I am tired And the flames of the fire Keep on flickering Half-cooked flashes of inspiration Half-baked dreams of wanderlust I get one moment of vacation For every day of feeling lost I used to think that I was special That I was blazing my own path But now I'm thinking that I'm no different Than all my friends here At the laundromat Man they said things will all work out In the end they always do And I guess that on some level I understand That that's just always true But what happens when I keep running And one day I run out of room? Get to the end of the line and In the back of my mind I find you So if you hear this song Know that my heart's been breaking long as I've been gone Know that I'm feeling like I'm doing it all wrong Know that some nights I wanna cry I'm scared and I am tired And the flames of the fire Keep flickering And if you hear this song Know that your memory, it surely isn't gone Know that I'm thinking of you each and every dawn Know that most nights I lie awake I toss and turn because I hate To think of you hurting, cause you're missing me And the flames of the fire keep on flickering Oh the flames of the fire keep on flickering Oh the flames of the have been flickering
I've been listening to this song, as well as others by you jake, and these lyrics are just so incredibly written. the way you rhyme and make it sounds so natural is just so amazing. such a breath of fresh air being able to listen to a song like this. The first time I listened to it, I was thrown off by the relaxing tune of the guitar. typically I don't listen too much to lyrics the first time I listen to a song, so I was just relaxing while playing a game and listening to this song in the background. The second time I listened to it was was trying to get the meaning of the lyrics, trying to keep track of what you were saying, as soon as you said "But now I'm thinking that I'm no different than all my friends here at the laundromat," it hit me so hard. the emotions and expression you shared in this song has hit me in more ways then you can think of. I haven't left home yet, but I will here come September, and when I do I just know ill be listening to this song, as sad/bittersweet as it may be. I see most people in the comment section are saying this, because its so true; but you deserve so much more attention as this song and others you have made are so good, despite it just being you and your guitar. you have made such and impact in my life through just a simple song. Thank you Jake.
was letting my phone auto play music and when this came on i was surprised to see so little views on it, truly a great song i hope it gets the attention it deserves
Still listening to this amazing song quite often and was wondering if you could put it on deezer ? I've found some of your work but not this one sadly :)
Only 610 views? Perfect. Just under my 1,000 view indie-artist cutoff. Looking forward to calling this song played-out in 4 days. Edit: Nm. It’s been 5 days and this song is still incredible.

Lyrics:
Half-cooked meals and instant coffee
Outside the gas station store
a question I just can't wash off me
is this what I left home for?
Sleepless nights and tired mornings
Bleary eyes and bruising knees
Is isolation habit-forming?
Am I just drifting out to sea?
Man they said it'll all work out
In the end things always do
So I guess on some level I understand
That that's just always true
But what happens when I keep running
And one day I run out of room?
Get to the end of the line
and In the back of my mind
It's still you
So if you hear this song
Know that my heart's been breaking long as I've been gone
Know that I'm feeling like I'm doing it all wrong
Know that most nights I wanna cry
I'm scared and I am tired
And the flames of the fire
Keep on flickering
Half-cooked flashes of inspiration
Half-baked dreams of wanderlust
I get one moment of vacation
For every day of feeling lost
I used to think that I was special
That I was blazing my own path
But now I'm thinking that I'm no different
Than all my friends here
At the laundromat
Man they said things will all work out
In the end they always do
And I guess that on some level I understand
That that's just always true
But what happens when I keep running
And one day I run out of room?
Get to the end of the line
and In the back of my mind
I find you
So if you hear this song
Know that my heart's been breaking long as I've been gone
Know that I'm feeling like I'm doing it all wrong
Know that some nights I wanna cry
I'm scared and I am tired
And the flames of the fire
Keep flickering
And if you hear this song
Know that your memory, it surely isn't gone
Know that I'm thinking of you each and every dawn
Know that most nights I lie awake
I toss and turn because I hate
To think of you hurting, cause you're missing me
And the flames of the fire keep on flickering
Oh the flames of the fire keep on flickering
Oh the flames of the have been flickering
